It turns out that we, as humans, do not really control our lives as much as we want to. And yet, we judge ourselves for failures, we build an image in our mind of who we are, we react to our thoughts and feelings without realizing that they are separate from our minds, and more than that - we determine who we are based on outcomes that are out of our control. If there is one book that can claim to provide the solution to all problems of humanity, it is the holy Bhagavad Gita. Simply reading this book and comprehending the life-changing, ageless, and profound wisdom contained in its 701 magnificent verses is enough to change the path of one’s life and bring it to the peak of perfection. That is why, after hearing this transcendental discourse of Lord Krishna, Arjuna exclaims to Him, “O Achyuta (The Changeless One), my delusion is destroyed, and my memory (about one’s true identity) has been regained by me through Your grace. I am firmly situated; my doubts are gone. I will now act according to Your word.” [Bhagavad Gita 18.73] The Bhagavad Gita is not a religious book and is not intended to be read and acted upon by the adherents of a particular religion. It’s a guidebook for life; a how-to manual. It is a medicine for the infected souls of the Kali-Yuga, the dark age. And there is no religion in medicine. The Bhagavad Gita is the most sacred conversation ever between Lord Krishna and his friend Prince Arjuna just before the beginning of the great war of Mahabharata, on the holy battlefield of Kurukshetra, where the Lord enlightens a bewildered Arjuna about the biggest truths of the universe. This dialogue is considered to contain the nectar of all Vedic scriptures, the most ancient scriptures of the world. By reading the Bhagavad Gita, you will discover answers to the most important questions in life, such as: - Who are you? - What is your purpose in life and how to fulfill that purpose? - Is there a God? If yes, who is God, and how to know and reach Him? - Is God one or many? - What is your relationship with God? - What is death and why you do not need to fear death? - What happens after death? - Do heaven and hell exist? - Is reincarnation real? - What is Yoga? What are the different types of Yoga? How to be a Yogi? - How does the Law of Karma work? - Why are we all living life the wrong way? And how you can live your life the right way? - How to see yourself and your life from the right perspective? - How to master your mind and get rid of negative emotions like worry, fear, anger, jealousy, and sadness for good? - How to be always happy? - What is the most perfect method of meditation? Hari Chetan’s translation of the Bhagavad Gita is the outcome of his two decades of experience in the field of Vedic philosophy. The following are some of the distinguishing aspects of this English translation: - All the verses of the Bhagavad Gita are accurately translated from the original Sanskrit texts. - The translations are presented in their authentic form, free from any sectarian bias. - The translations are kept simple without sacrificing accuracy, essence, and spirit. - The gaps arising while translating verses from Sanskrit to English have been taken care of to preserve the intended meaning of each verse. - Context has been given due importance while establishing the meaning of each word with the aim of providing correct interpretation. - To facilitate self-explanatory translations, additional explanations are given in parentheses in the verses. - Additional explanations are provided in the form of notes at appropriate places. - The historical background of Mahabharata is included for perfect understanding. - To help you test your understanding, a printable workbook is included. All of this adds up to a complete translation of the holy Bhagavad Gita in English. Read This Book to Uncover The Secret Wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita and Change Your Life Forever!

Unlike all available commentaries on the Bhagavad Gita, which interpret it in the Mahabharata epic context, this book interprets it in the historical context. This context has to do with historical processes and events that led to the creation of the Original Gita, known as Arjuna Vishada, and its subsequent expansion to the revered theistic-philosophical masterpiece known as the Bhagavad Gita-Upanishad. It deals with the questions such as who created the Original Gita, when, and for what specific purpose? Why did Upanishadists add shlokas to this 77-shloka long metaphoric poem? How did Bhagavatas enter into this equation? Without the knowledge of the historical context of shlokas related to these three distinct Dharmas based on three distinct pairs of doctrines, it is impossible to reveal the true intent and spirit of the Bhagavad Gita.

The Bhagavad Gita is one of the great scriptures today, which guides the life and thought of people all over the world. It is believed to have been written by Lord Krishna. The Bhagavad Gita, also more simply known as Gita, is a 700-verse Hindu scripture that is part of the ancient Hindu epic, the Mahabharata, but is frequently treated as a freestanding text, and in particular, as an Upanishad in its own right, one of the several books that comprise the more general Vedic tradition. It is revealed scripture in the views of Hindus, the scripture for Hindus represents the words and message of god, the book is considered among the most important texts in the history of literature and philosophy. The teacher of the Bhagavad Gita is Lord Krishna, who is revered by Hindus as a manifestation of God (Parabrahman) Himself, and is referred to within as Bhagavan, the Divine One.The context of the Gita is a conversation between Lord Krishna and the Pandava prince Arjuna taking place in the middle of the battlefield before the start of the Kurukshetra War with armies on both sides ready to battle. Responding to Arjuna's confusion and moral dilemma about fighting his own cousins who command a tyranny imposed on a disputed empire, Lord Krishna explains to Arjuna his duties as a warrior and prince, and elaborates on different Yogic and Vedantic philosophies, and explains different ways in which the soul can reach the supreme being with examples and analogies. This has led to the Gita often being described as a concise guide to Hindu theology and also as a practical, self-contained guide to life. During the discourse, Lord Krishna reveals His identity as the Supreme Being Himself (Svayam Bhagavan), blessing Arjuna with an awe-inspiring vision of His divine universal form.

Bhagavad Gita, the song of Bhagavad, having emanated from the mouth of Lord Krishna is considered sacrosanct by Hindus. Though scholars in their commentaries and glosses had often differed in their interpretations of the Gita verses and opposed each other, but none doubted its infallibility, and therefore its inviolability had never been challenged. Hence, efforts to review the book was considered profane and barred by fear of desecration. Rationality, though believed to be a rare human attribute, is not entirely unknown in the spiritual domain. Instead of suppressing the truth and killing doubts with imaginary fear of divine wrath, the Advaitin monk Paramhangsa Soham Swami penned Bhagavadgeetar shamolochona, a critique of Bhagavad Gita, in 1918 in his native tongue Bengali, which was published posthumously on his first death anniversary on 6th December, 1919. The English translation of the book, Critical Review of Bhagavad Gita, is being published in the centenary year. The most popular and widely-read book that claims to contain the essence of Hindu thought is Bhagavad Gita. It is venerated by all sections of Hindus and is universally referred to as a mine of infallible knowledge for establishing the veracity of diverse sectarian beliefs in the Hindu society. But is Bhagavad Gita worth all the hype? An impartial evaluation will reveal that the book has been skilfully marketed as a panacea for all real life problems and spiritual enlightenment. The Critical Review of Bhagavad Gita is unique because it has not only highlighted the fallacies and inconsistencies, but has also revealed how Gita has diverted from the concepts of the Vedas and Upanishads that form the real cornerstone of Hinduism. About the Author: Paramhangsa Soham Swami (1858-1918) was a follower of the Indian tradition of non-dualism or Advaita Vedanta. Known as Shyamakanta Bandopadhyay (Banerjee) in his pre-monastic days, he was renowned for his extraordinary physical strength and exemplary courage. After graduating from Dacca College, he chose an unusual vocation - wrestling with wild tigers. He was revered by Indians and Europeans as Professor Banerjee, the first tiger tamer of India. However, at the age of 41, renouncing wealth, family and fame, he became an ascetic. Under the tutelage of his master Nabin Chandra Chakroborty alias Tibbatibaba he discovered the Absolute Truth.
