The Bible had made history, changed societies, created art and also caused murders—quite a lot of murders in fact. The latest one is the killing of Professor Karl Fehr of the University of London. He provided the long missing archaeological proof for a daring theory published by Professor Kamal Salibi, a real (not fictional) Lebanese historian [see his book ‘The Bible came from Arabia’, 1985). Based on thorough linguistic and geographical studies he, and later also Fehr, became convinced that all locations and events mentioned in the Old Testament are connected to Asir, a southern province of today‘s Saudi Arabia, and not to the region of Palestine/Israel! Of course, hardly anyone is willing to see any truth in that theory. It is not conform with the age-old and commonly accepted interpretation of the Old Testament and is therefore shocking. No wonder that Salibi in his lifetime and now Fehr with his archaeological proof faced a whole phalanx of enemies, among them Fehr‘s murder. Professor Rietberg, a Middle East historian and Fehr‘s colleague at the University of London, as the amateur detective with this talents already proven in other murder cases manages finally to solve this politically sensitive case as well.

Dr. Fredrick G. Bishop is a prominent pastor and important citizen of Victoria, a small, friendly town in western North Carolina. As an ultra-conservative Christian he has little interest in the recent discovery of a murdered young man. The reason? Simple...because the victim was gay. That all changes when his son, Gary, returns home from college and shares the news that he too is gay. What's more, he is determined to help discover who murdered his childhood friend. "Murder in the Bible Belt" is the compelling story of a father's struggle between his beliefs and the unconditional love for his son...all while a killer is on the loose.

God has a bad reputation. Many think of God as wrathful and angry, smiting people right and left for no apparent reason. The Old Testament in particular seems at times to portray God as capricious and malevolent, wiping out armies and nations, punishing enemies with extreme prejudice.. But wait. The story is more complicated than that. Alongside troubling passages of God's punishment and judgment are pictures of God's love, forgiveness, goodness, and slowness to anger. How do we make sense of the seeming contradiction? Can God be trusted or not?. David Lamb unpacks the complexity of the Old Testament to explore the character of God. He provides historical and cultural background to shed light on problematic passages and bring underlying themes to the fore. Without minimizing the sometimes harsh realities of the biblical record, Lamb assembles an overall portrait that gives coherence to our understanding of God in both the Old and New Testaments. This expanded edition includes an updated preface, afterword, and appendix addressing the story of Noah and the flood.

A recent string of popular-level books written by the New Atheists have leveled the accusation that the God of the Old Testament is nothing but a bully, a murderer, and a cosmic child abuser. This viewpoint is even making inroads into the church. How are Christians to respond to such accusations? And how are we to reconcile the seemingly disconnected natures of God portrayed in the two testaments? In this timely and readable book, apologist Paul Copan takes on some of the most vexing accusations of our time, including: God is arrogant and jealous God punishes people too harshly God is guilty of ethnic cleansing God oppresses women God endorses slavery Christianity causes violence and more Copan not only answers God's critics, he also shows how to read both the Old and New Testaments faithfully, seeing an unchanging, righteous, and loving God in both.

Was the crucifixion the act by which God poured out his wrath on his Son or was it something else? Is God guilty of killing his innocent Son, or should the culpability for Jesus' death be placed elsewhere? Does the atonement reveal an angry God who poured out his hatred, his fierce anger, on his Son? Does the Bible answer these questions? In this short book, we look at the reasons people have historically claimed that God deliberately poured out his wrath on Jesus at the cross, and also why others protest this idea. Just as importantly, we consider how our beliefs about this doctrine can make a great difference to the way we live as we walk with God.By observing how the first disciples talked about the crucifixion, by surveying sacrifice and wrath in the Old Testament, and by examining the Messianic prophecies pertaining to the cross, this book presents the argument that Jesus was indeed our atoning sacrifice for sins, but that he was murdered by a conspiracy of evildoers, not by his Father.Dr. Glenn R. Kreider is Professor of Theological Studies at Dallas Theological Seminary.Dr. Eitan Bar is the media and evangelism leader at ONE FOR ISRAEL Ministry and Israel College of the Bible.

The Bible In Crime Fiction And Drama written by Caroline Blyth and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-01-24 with Religion categories.

The Bible has always enjoyed notoriety within the genres of crime fiction and drama; numerous authors have explicitly drawn on biblical traditions as thematic foci to explore social anxieties about violence, religion, and the search for justice and truth. The Bible in Crime Fiction and Drama brings together a multi-disciplinary scholarship from the fields of biblical interpretation, literary criticism, criminology, and studies in film and television to discuss international texts and media spanning the beginning of the 20th century to the present day. The volume concludes with an afterword by crime writer and academic, Liam McIvanney. These essays explore both explicit and implicit engagements between biblical texts and crime narratives, analysing the multiple layers of meaning that such engagements can produce – cross-referencing Sherlock Holmes with the murder mystery in the Book of Tobit, observing biblical violence through the eyes of Christian fundamentalists in Henning Mankell's Before the Frost, catching the thread of homily in the serial murders of Se7en, or analysing biblical sexual violence in light of television crime procedurals. The contributors also raise intriguing questions about the significance of the Bible as a religious and cultural text – its association with the culturally pervasive themes of violence, (im)morality, and redemption, and its relevance as a symbol of the (often fraught) location that religion occupies within contemporary secular culture.
