Rabbi Isaac Abrams escaped the Holocaust and wandered in search of mission and meaning. He arrived in a small university town walking the quiet streets at night in vocal argument with . . . whom? One evening he encountered Jack Israel, a professor of social psychology and an apostate Jew. Both night walkers were in conversation, one with the unseen, the other with two Newfoundland dogs. Together they began to patrol the streets engaging one another, badgering one another, laughing together, crying together, loving together. Each was placed on trial by life. Each sought a way of escape. But life pursues without end.

Traditional interpertations in both Judaism and Christianity argue that the Akedah presents not only an ethical question but also an ethical reply. But for the intervention of the angel, Abraham would have killed his son. Obedience to God take precedence over morality as humanly conceived. Yet, the angel of YHWH that appears to Abraham is a later addition to the text; thus, in the original narrative Abraham actually disobeys the divine command to slay his son, and sacrifices a ram instead. The first part of the book shows how the "original" version of the narrative did not contain the angelic figure. The second part of the book re-examines various religious interpretations of the text to show that exegetes such as Maimonides and his followers did point out Abraham's disobedience. According to these writers the esoteric layer of the story in fact declares that disobedience to God's command was Abraham's true affirmation of faith. In th ethird part of the book, Boehm re-opens the philosophical debate between Kant and Kierkegaard. Boehm concludes the book by contending that the monotheistic model of faith presented by Abraham was actually a model of disobedience.

The Binding Of Isaac written by Michael Shocket and has been published by Authors On Line Ltd this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004 with Faith categories.

Dr. Michael Shocket, a retired lecturer living in Hertfordshire, is the author of several text books published by the Cambridge University Press, poems in various magazines, and hisautobiography, "Know me Tomorrow," was published by United Press in 2003. "The Binding of Isaac" is his first novel. He is a member of the Council for Christians and Jews, and his religious views are reflected in the pivotal character of Abraham. A worthy descendant of the patriarch, after his son, Isaac, who suffered brain damage at birth, is sentenced for the rape and attempted murder of his step-sister, Abraham experiences a loss of faith. Peter, a Nigerian barrister, and the son of an African vicar, represents the boy in an appeal against his prison sentence. He falls in love with Rosie, Isaac's younger sister. The fathers, one a devout Christian and the other a strictly orthodox Jew, both at variance with fundamentalism, establish a unique friendship. Most of the characters in "The Binding of Isaac" battle against religious, racial and social prejudice. The reader will find a disturbing picture of the public's attitude towards people with learning disabilities. On a lighter note the author, a self confessed "romantic," provides us with three bitter-sweet, interwoven love stories.

Not only a story of Abraham's devotion to God, this biblical episode reflects the classic tension between generations. Louis A. Berman uses his training as a psychologist and his personal experience as a father to craft this intensive inquiry into the Akedah. Louis A. Berman examines the place of the Akedah story in world mythology, in history, in psychology, in Christian and Islamic thought, in art and music and in the literature of England, America, and Israel.

Abraham S Silence written by J. Richard Middleton and has been published by Baker Academic this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-11-16 with Religion categories.

It is traditional to think we should praise Abraham for his willingness to sacrifice his son as proof of his love for God. But have we misread the point of the story? Is it possible that a careful reading of Genesis 22 could reveal that God was not pleased with Abraham's silent obedience? Widely respected biblical theologian, creative thinker, and public speaker J. Richard Middleton suggests we have misread and misapplied the story of the binding of Isaac and shows that God desires something other than silent obedience in difficult times. Middleton focuses on the ethical and theological problem of Abraham's silence and explores the rich biblical tradition of vigorous prayer, including the lament psalms, as a resource for faith. Middleton also examines the book of Job in terms of God validating Job's lament as "right speech," showing how the vocal Job provides an alternative to the silent Abraham. This book provides a fresh interpretation of Genesis 22 and reinforces the church's resurgent interest in lament as an appropriate response to God.

The Anarchist Cookbook will shock, it will disturb, it will provoke. It places in historical perspective an era when "Turn on, Burn down, Blow up" are revolutionary slogans of the day. Says the author" "This book... is not written for the members of fringe political groups, such as the Weatherman, or The Minutemen. Those radical groups don't need this book. They already know everything that's in here. If the real people of America, the silent majority, are going to survive, they must educate themselves. That is the purpose of this book." In what the author considers a survival guide, there is explicit information on the uses and effects of drugs, ranging from pot to heroin to peanuts. There i detailed advice concerning electronics, sabotage, and surveillance, with data on everything from bugs to scramblers. There is a comprehensive chapter on natural, non-lethal, and lethal weapons, running the gamut from cattle prods to sub-machine guns to bows and arrows.
