Albert Rider, a successful scriptwriter from Australia in his early fifties, needs a new opportunity to live and love. He finds it in Europe, in Barcelona, where he discovers the life of the city with Joan Gómez, a university lecturer in Catalan language and literature, the man who becomes his best friend, and he falls in love with Núria, a doctor who teaches at the Faculty of Medicine. He is able to leave his loneliness behind and rediscover himself as a human being. This is a story of love and friendship, as well as an introduction to the fascinating personality of the city of Barcelona. The author uses English as it is the international language chosen by the characters. Readers from all over the world can now approach and admire the marvels of this city. The action takes us to some of the most beautiful places: the Montjuïc Olympic hill, the sea, the famous avenue of Passeig de Gràcia, the Sagrada Família, the Liceu Opera, the Barça Football Stadium, these and other places that are of great interest but are less well known are also discovered. The book is written in very accessible English and can also be enjoyed by the people of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain and Europe who want to revisit this international city with the new light of this beautiful story.

A humorous – and rather ribald – take on Guatemala’s guerrillas in which a female James Bond with a backpack full of lacy knickers (one for each day of the week) battles to unmask the terrible villain who wants to wipe out the world with the VHL virus; she breaks with all the schemes, is more than an adventure novel, it hides a background of social criticism and affirmation of freedom and personality of what is really a truly independent woman. The charming Amandina and her own particular way of observing the world around her. According to Claude Simon, French writer and Nobel Prize, a different way of interpreting the existentialist novel... A novel that will stir your passions and that you won’t want to put down until you read “The End”.

Weyl And The Problem Of Space written by Julien Bernard and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-10-09 with Science categories.

This book investigates Hermann Weyl’s work on the problem of space from the early 1920s onwards. It presents new material and opens the philosophical problem of space anew, crossing the disciplines of mathematics, history of science and philosophy. With a Kantian starting point Weyl asks: among all the infinitely many conceivable metrical spaces, which one applies to the physical world? In agreement with general relativity, Weyl acknowledges that the metric can quantitatively vary with the physical situation. Despite this freedom, Weyl “deduces”, with group-theoretical technicalities, that there is only one “kind” of legitimate metric. This construction was then decisive for the development of gauge theories. Nevertheless, the question of the foundations of the metric of physical theories is only a piece of a wider epistemological problem. Contributing authors mark out the double trajectory that goes through Weyl’s texts, from natural science to philosophy and conversely, always through the mediation of mathematics. Readers may trace the philosophical tradition to which Weyl refers and by which he is inspired (Kant, Husserl, Fichte, Leibniz, Becker etc.), and explore the mathematical tradition (Riemann, Helmholtz, Lie, Klein) that permitted Weyl to elaborate and solve his mathematical problem of space. Furthermore, this volume analyzes the role of the interlocutors with whom Weyl discussed the nature of physical space (Einstein, Cartan, De Sitter, Schrödinger, Eddington). This volume features the work of top specialists and will appeal to postgraduates and scholars in philosophy, the history of science, mathematics, or physics.

L Auberge Espagnole written by Ben McCann and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-05-11 with Social Science categories.

Part romantic comedy, part sitcom, part social drama, L’Auberge espagnole (The Spanish Apartment) recounts a familiar ‘youth’ ritual – the move from university to ‘the real world’, the often complicated personal, romantic and cultural encounters that ensue, and the moral uncertainties that characterize that key biological and physiological developmental stage between adolescence and adulthood. French director Cédric Klapisch showcases the extraordinary colour and beauty of Barcelona’s architecture, and places his hero Xavier at the heart of this smartly written film, which makes a series of wry observations on educational exchange programmes, multi-culturalism, and the direction European youth might take in the twenty-first century. This book addresses the topic of Europe’s youth generation, paying particular attention to the ways in which the film depicts the transition from adolescence to adulthood as allegory for the experiences of European society as it moves through periods of readjustment towards uncertain futures. It also looks into the ecosystem of contemporary French cinema, the Erasmus programme and its influence on youth experience, and identity politics in relation to ‘nationhood’ and ‘European-ness’. The book also examines the two sequels to the film – Russian Dolls (2005) and Chinese Puzzle (2013) – and how the complications faced by the main characters across the trilogy suggest that the move to adulthood is a never-ending process of growing up and reaching a level of self-actualization.
