No holiday can thrill kids more than Christmas! If you were born between 1946 and 1964, you enjoyed some of the greatest inventions in the world of toys, food, and entertainment. But just how much do you know about the history, fun, and controversy surrounding your favorites? Well, wonder no more! The Boomer Book of Christmas Memories fills in all the blanks by revealing: Which toy designer was married to ZsaZsa Gabor, and which one's bachelor pad was profiled in Playboy How a surplus of frozen turkeys led to the invention of the TV dinner Why tinsel feels different now than it did when we were kids What weird stocking stuffer NASA astronauts used to hold their tools in place in zero gravity What popular Boomer game was dreamed up in a polio ward Did Betty Crocker and Duncan Hines really exist? Were they married? Secret lovers? Or ... visitors from another galaxy? And SO much more! A collection of the often wacky stories behind the Christmas traditions that Boomers hold dear, The Boomer Book of Christmas Memories reveals the secret histories of the foods, songs, decorations, TV shows, and-most especially-spectacular toys that Boomer Babies enjoyed as children and teens, all wrapped up in one delectable volume."

Do you remember washing in a tin bath by the fire, using outside lavatories and not having a television? Did you grow up in the 1950s and were you a teenager in the swinging sixties? If the Festival of Britain, food rationing and the Queen's coronation are among your earliest memories then you belong to the post-war baby boomer generation. How did we end up here, in the second decade of the twenty-first century, when it all just seems like yesterday? In this fascinating new trip down memory lane, Paul Feeney remembers what it has been like to live through the eventful second half of the twentieth century. This nostalgic journey through an era of change will resonate with anyone who began their innocent childhood years in austerity and has lived through a lifetime of ground-breaking events to the much changed Britain of today. There are also some wonderful pictures to help jog our memories of bygone days.

As I was preparing this work, I asked some young adults (early 20s of today) what they know about the baby boomers. One reply was, You had morals. Today, people dont. Another reply was, My grandmother is one, and she worries a lot. Then he qualified his statement with this idea, No, she really takes good care of us. Thus, he was implying that the baby boomers are very humanitarian. Naturally, each of these statements is a value judgment and is open to opinion, and everyone knows that every generation has good and bad people. However, I would qualify the statement that the first young man said with this idea: I do believe that the baby boom generation has been a generation of traditional values in a very special way that no others in modern times seem to have been. Another way to say that is to say that baby boomers followed their parents values in a way that no other generation of modern times has done.

A journey through the Christmases of yesteryear, with artwork, photos, magazine content, and others treasures of decades past. We all have memories of long-ago Christmases locked away in our hearts. This book explores—with vibrant period art, surprising facts, and excerpts from letters, diaries, and magazines through the decades—what the holiday was like from the 1920s through the 1960s. In Christmas Memories, Susan Waggoner, author of It’s a Wonderful Christmas and Under the Tree, looks at bygone holidays from the perspective of those who lived them. Beginning with “Christmas in the Melting Pot,” which depicts yuletide in the early 1920s, she presents detailed snapshots that re-create seasons past. She chronicles the gifts, activities, fads, and fancies that made each Christmas unique; indulges in fantasy shopping at yesterday’s prices; shares thoughts from letters, diaries, and magazines of the era; and makes the past come to life with vibrant period art that lets you revel in the irresistible nostalgia of Christmas memories.

Growing Up In Concord New Hampshire Boomer Memories From White S Park To The Capitol Theater written by Kathleen Bailey and has been published by Arcadia Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-07 with History categories.

In the 1950s and 1960s Concord was technically a city, but it more closely resembled a small town. Remote from the larger world, change was slow to arrive - the stunning death of a popular young President, and a war that would tear the country apart and reassemble it as something nobody recognized. But those innocent decades were a seemingly endless summer, and young residents reveled in it. Riding bikes through the National Guard Armory grounds, hitching a snowy slide on the back of a mail truck and walking barefoot to the corner store for a Coke from the big red cooler. Entertainment was always free, from the Nevers Band to amateur fashion shows. Author Kathleen Bailey and photographer Sheila Bailey unveil a portrait of a town during a simpler time.
