Rebekah Herschmann, only daughter of Goose Bend¿s token Jewish family, boards a plane in Jordan to fly home to Pennsylvania but disappears in route. Her frantic father calls his friend, Detective William Laskey, to help find her. When a ransom note demands part of the family¿s art collection instead of money, Laskey fears for Rebekah¿s life. Someone wants to punish the Herschmanns. Otherwise, why bother with a kidnapping when a theft would have been easier and less risky? As Laskey delves into the Herschmann¿s background, trying to discover who would want to extract such revenge, he learns that the paintings were smuggled out of Nazi-era Austria and must go back in time to an incident in prewar Vienna in order to solve the mystery and save Rebekah¿s life.

What the gods desire, they take. When the gods take a person, there is not much one can do about it, even if there seems something strange and terrible about the god. Through the gates of the eastern mountains pass only the gods, the dead, and the heroes of legend. Mere mortals do not go farther than the tombs lining the roads of the Middle Desert. Except for the daughters of the Bandit Queen of the Oclaresh, that is. The lord of the Blue Wind took their youngest sister. When Pali and Arzu discover that there is something gravely wrong, they decide that the gods work through the hands of men, that justice binds everyone-god, man, djinn, or demon-and that they are not afraid of the road east. The first book of The Sisters Avramapul.

Art Of The 20th Century written by Karl Ruhrberg and has been published by Taschen this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000 with Performing Arts categories.

The original edition of this ambitious reference was published in hardcover in 1998, in two oversize volumes (10x13"). This edition combines the two volumes into one; it's paperbound ("flexi-cover"--the paper has a plastic coating), smaller (8x10", and affordable for art book buyers with shallower pockets--none of whom should pass it by. The scope is encyclopedic: half the work (originally the first volume) is devoted to painting; the other half to sculpture, new media, and photography. Chapters are arranged thematically, and each page displays several examples (in color) of work under discussion. The final section, a lexicon of artists, includes a small bandw photo of each artist, as well as biographical information and details of work, writings, and exhibitions. Ruhrberg and the three other authors are veteran art historians, curators, and writers, as is editor Walther. c. Book News Inc.

Max Ernst And Alchemy written by M. E. Warlick and has been published by University of Texas Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-03-15 with Art categories.

Surrealist artist Max Ernst defined collage as the "alchemy of the visual image." Students of his work have often dismissed this comment as simply a metaphor for the transformative power of using found images in a new context. Taking a wholly different perspective on Ernst and alchemy, however, M. E. Warlick persuasively demonstrates that the artist had a profound and abiding interest in alchemical philosophy and often used alchemical symbolism in works created throughout his career. A revival of interest in alchemy swept the artistic, psychoanalytic, historical, and scientific circles of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and Warlick sets Ernst's work squarely within this movement. Looking at both his art (many of the works she discusses are reproduced in the book) and his writings, she reveals how thoroughly alchemical philosophy and symbolism pervade his early Dadaist experiments, his foundational work in surrealism, and his many collages and paintings of women and landscapes, whose images exemplify the alchemical fusing of opposites. This pioneering research adds an essential key to understanding the multilayered complexity of Ernst's works, as it affirms his standing as one of Germany's most significant artists of the twentieth century.
