How can we see what’s on the other side of a river too deep to be crossed over? And if our condition, our limits and capacities make our crossing difficult? We know that only a bridge can lead us to the other river bank! And where is that bridge? Who’s that bridge? Who can show us that path and take us to it? It’s by reading this book, by making this walk together, that I invite you to discover the path, through meditation and acceptance of this true challenge, that’s the way for us to walk and make the pilgrimage to what will take us to that bridge. I sat at a rooftop bar on an island in Florida, watching the sunset. I realized the first night that the sun wasn’t only setting on the day but also on my life. I needed to hear from God concerning the end of my physical life, which is approaching. God gently taught me how to die and how to not be afraid of what is to come. He also taught me how to live, breathing hope into my soul. I have enjoyed my conversations with God, and in these pages, have attempted to share them with you. I pray that as you read, God becomes visible to you and that you find this book an enlightening treasure in your life.

Time and the literary: the immediacy of information technology has supposedly annihilated both. Email, cell phones, satellite broadcasting seem to have ended the long-standing tradition of encoding our experience of time through writing. Paul de Man's seminal essay "Literary History and Literary Modernity" and newly commissioned essays on everything from the human genome to grammatical tenses argue, however that the literary constantly reconstructs our understanding of time. From eleventh-century France or a science-fiction future, Time and the Literary shows how these two concepts have been and will continue to influence each other.

Engineering America written by Richard Haw and has been published by Oxford University Press, USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

John Roebling was one of the nineteenth century's most brilliant engineers, ingenious inventors, successful manufacturers, and fascinating personalities. Raised in a German backwater amid the war-torn chaos of the Napoleonic Wars, he immigrated to the US in 1831, where he became wealthy and acclaimed, eventually receiving a carte-blanche contract to build one of the nineteenth century's most stupendous and daring works of engineering: a gigantic suspension bridge to span the East River between New York and Brooklyn. In between, he thought, wrote, and worked tirelessly. He dug canals and surveyed railroads; he planned communities and founded new industries. Horace Greeley called him "a model immigrant"; generations later, F. Scott Fitzgerald worked on a script for the movie version of his life. Like his finest creations, Roebling was held together by the delicate balance of countervailing forces. On the surface, his life was exemplary and his accomplishments legion. As an immigrant and employer, he was respected throughout the world. As an engineer, his works profoundly altered the physical landscape of America. He was a voracious reader, a fervent abolitionist, and an engaged social commentator. His understanding of the natural world, however, bordered on the occult and his opinions about medicine are best described as medieval. For a man of science and great self-certainty, he was also remarkably quick to seize on a whole host of fads and foolish trends. Yet Roebling held these strands together. Throughout his life, he believed in the moral application of science and technology, that bridges--along with other great works of connection, the Atlantic Cable, the Transcontinental Railroad--could help bring people together, erase divisions, and heal wounds. Like Walt Whitman, Roebling was deeply committed to the creation of a more perfect union, forged from the raw materials of the continent. John Roebling was a complex, deeply divided yet undoubtedly influential figure, and this biography illuminates not only his works but also the world of nineteenth-century America. Roebling's engineering feats are well known, but the man himself is not; for alongside the drama of large scale construction lies an equally rich drama of intellectual and social development and crisis, one that mirrored and reflected the great forces, trials, and failures of nineteenth century America.

Bridge Stories written by Susan Wilson-Shultz and has been published by WestBow Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-04 with Religion categories.

Like a lot of people, Susan didn't believe that she had a story worth sharing, a story that would impact lives for Christ--that is until that surprising day when God called her to write her testimony. That day, with fingers pressed upon the keys of her laptop, Susan embarked on a journey that forever changed her life as well as the lives of others. Over the course of a few years, as Susan wrote, God began to orchestrate the events of her life to paint a beautiful picture depicting how His people should live in preparation for His return and demonstrating His desire that we begin living lives that testify to Him. In these pages you will find more than simply the words that describe Susan's personal journey; you will hear the Savior's voice. You will hear the message that Jesus lovingly laid on her heart, a message that speaks about how He longs for His ultimate wedding day to His Bride, the Church, and about how we should live in preparation for that day. Just as a bridge once connected Jerusalem with the Temple Mount, bringing people closer to the Temple where God resided, these stories will lead you into a deeper relationship with the Lord. They will help you to discover your own story--for God created you to testify! You are meant to be a bridge that leads others to Christ. God wants to speak through you, so let's get started finding your story!
