The book "Problems in Mathematical Biophysics - a volume in memory of Alberto Gandolfi" aims at reviewing the current state of the art of the mathematical approach to various areas of theoretical biophysics. Leading authors in the field have been invited to contribute, having a strong appreciation of Alberto Gandolfi as a scientist and as a man and sharing his same passion for biology and medicine, as well as his style of investigation. Encompassing both theoretical and practical aspects of Mathematical Biophysics, the topics covered in this book span a spectrum of different problems, in biology, and medicine, including population dynamics, tumor growth and control, immunology, epidemiology, ecology, and others. As a result, the book offers a comprehensive and current overview of compelling subjects and challenges within the realm of mathematical biophysics. In their contributions, the authors have effectively conveyed not only their research findings but also their peculiar perspective and approach to problem-solving, dealing with oncology, epidemiology, neuro-sciences, and biochemistry. The chapters pertain to a wide array of mathematical areas such as continuous Markov chains, partial differential equations, kinetic theory, applied statistical mechanics, noise-induced transitions, and many others.

Artificial Intelligence in Heat Transfer shows how artificial intelligence (AI) tools and techniques, such as artificial neural networks, machine learning algorithms, genetic algorithms, etc., provide practical benefits specific to thermal sciences. It presents case studies involving heat and mass transfer, multi-objective optimization, conjugate heat transfer, nanofluids, thermal radiation, heat transfer through porous media (metal foam), and more. Drawing on the collective expertise of leading researchers and experts in multiple fields, the book provides an in-depth understanding of the possibilities that emerge when these tools are applied to problems related to thermal sciences. AI is an ever-evolving discipline that has created new and groundbreaking opportunities to advance the mechanical engineering field, particularly in the area of numerical heat transfer. This volume, Advances in Numerical Heat Transfer, explores various ways AI is used in heat transfer to solve engineering problems. This book will serve as an important resource for upper-level undergraduate students, researchers, engineers, and professionals, equipping them with the knowledge and inspiration to push the boundaries of the thermal sciences through AI-driven tools and techniques.

Neuroelectrodynamics written by Dorian Aur and has been published by IOS Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with Medical categories.

The essence of brain function consists in how information is processed, transferred and stored. Current neurophysiological doctrine remains focused within a spike timing paradigm, but this has a limited capacity for advancing the understanding of how the brain works. This book puts forward a new model; the neuroelectrodynamic model (NED), which describes the intrinsic computational processes by the dynamics and interaction of charges. It uses established laws of physics, such as those of classical mechanics, thermodynamics and quantum physics, as the guiding principle to develop a general theoretical construct of the brain s computational model, which incorporates the neurobiology of the cells and the molecular machinery itself, along with the electrical activity in neurons, to explain experimental results and predict the organization of the system. After addressing the deficiencies of current approaches, the laws and principles required to build a new model are discussed. In addition, as well as describing experiments which provide the required link between computation and semantics, the book highlights important concepts relating the theory of information with computation and the electrical properties of neurons. The NED model is explained and expounded and several examples of its application are shown. Of interest to all those involved in the fields of neuroscience, neurophysiology, computer science and the development of artificial intelligence, NED is a step forward in understanding the mind in computational terms. IOS Press is an international science, technical and medical publisher of high-quality books for academics, scientists, and professionals in all fields. Non-destructive evaluation (NDE) methods have dominated most of the fields of applied research and technology over the last twenty years. These techniques provide information on the functional efficiency of materials and structures without causing any structural impact on the structure itself. Their use enables the monitoring of the structural inte
