The 50th anniversary edition of “the best account yet published of what it feels like to be out there in the middle of the American political process” (The New York Times Book Review) featuring a new foreword from Johnny Knoxville. A half-century after its original publication, Hunter S. Thompson’s Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail ’72 remains a cornerstone of American political journalism and one of the bestselling campaign books of all time. Thompson’s searing account of the battle for the 1972 presidency—from the Democratic primaries to the eventual showdown between George McGovern and Richard Nixon—is infused with the characteristic wit, intensity, and emotional engagement that made Thompson “the flamboyant apostle and avatar of gonzo journalism” (The New York Times). Hilarious, terrifying, insightful, and compulsively readable, Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail ’72 is an epic political adventure that captures the feel of the American democratic process better than any other book ever written—and that is just as relevant to the many ills and issues roiling the nation today. As Johnny Knoxville writes in his foreword to this 50th anniversary edition: “Hunter predicted it all.”

Al Qaeda and its leaders are on the run but they have some help from one of our major adversaries. A deal is struck with Russia to help them but there are terms... of course. Al Qaeda must do two things... 1) begin to help Russia secure its distant borders and 2) help defeat the US in Afghanistan. In return, Russia will provide al Qaeda with both bio and nuclear weapon technology... the needed beginnings for their revenge. They agree and the battle begins. Al Qaeda biochemical attacks are initiated in several border countries so Russia can come to the rescue and then occupy the countries. At the same time, massive amounts of money, material and fighters are being sent to challenge the US in Afghanistan. The US team is busy fighting back on two fronts. In the meantime, al Qaeda decides it would be better to go after nuclear weapons themselves (not just technology) and Pakistan becomes the obvious target. The US team must find a way to protect Pakistan's nuclear weapons and stop al Qaeda once and for all. The real battle is on... and the US must win this one! Pletcher's "The Path to Revenge" is the third in a series including also "The Campaign of Fear" and "Held Hostage."

Fear Hate And Victimhood written by Andrew E. Stoner and has been published by Univ. Press of Mississippi this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-03-25 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

When Donald Trump announced his campaign for president in 2015, journalists, historians, and politicians alike attempted to compare his candidacy to that of Governor George Wallace. Like Trump, Wallace, who launched four presidential campaigns between 1964 and 1976, utilized rhetoric based in resentment, nationalism, and anger to sway and eventually captivate voters among America’s white majority. Though separated by almost half a century, the campaigns of both Wallace and Trump broke new grounds for political partisanship and divisiveness. In Fear, Hate, and Victimhood: How George Wallace Wrote the Donald Trump Playbook, author Andrew E. Stoner conducts a deep analysis of the two candidates, their campaigns, and their speeches and activities, as well as their coverage by the media, through the lens of demagogic rhetoric. Though past work on Wallace argues conventional politics overcame the candidate, Stoner makes the case that Wallace may in fact be a prelude to the more successful Trump campaign. Stoner considers how ideas about “in-group” and “out-group” mentalities operate in politics, how anti-establishment views permeate much of the rhetoric in question, and how expressions of victimhood often paradoxically characterize the language of a leader praised for “telling it like it is.” He also examines the role of political spectacle in each candidate’s campaigns, exploring how media struggles to respond to—let alone document—demagogic rhetoric. Ultimately, the author suggests that the Trump presidency can be understood as an actualized version of the Wallace presidency that never was. Though vast differences exist, the demagogic positioning of both men provides a framework to dissect these times—and perhaps a valuable warning about what is possible in our highly digitized information society.

Fear And Smear written by Pat Anderson and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-09-07 with categories.

Fear and Smear pretty much summed up the whole campaign against Scottish independence. The peddling of fear was a constant tactic from the moment the referendum was first mooted. Scare stories about an independent Scotland having no jobs, no hospitals, no money, no defence capabilities and no way to pay for any kind of welfare screamed at us from our television screens and from every newspaper. Old people were told they would have no pensions and no medical care while there would be no schools for our children. There would be no money, in fact, to pay for anything. Within a decade life in an independent Scotland would be like a Mad Max film. As if that were not bad enough we would also be living under a one-party, fascist state. This was where the smear tactics came in. Alex Salmond was a crazed, power-hungry megalomaniac, while the SNP was nothing more than a latter-day version of the Nazis. The party even had its own version of the SA, the 'Cybernats', who were part of a concerted campaign of intimidation. NO supporters were targeted for abuse and worse, while English people in Scotland were being driven from their homes in an organised effort at ethnic cleansing. Here is the truth about the Better Together campaign. Mistruths, half-truths, disinformation, suppression of the facts and calumny; in fact, anything and everything was done to undermine the case for Scottish independence. Tories, Liberals and Labour all conspired against the independence campaign. There were secret meetings, coalitions in councils, plans to hijack anniversary celebrations and, ultimately, even flouting election rules. Nothing was sacred in the drive to stop Scottish independence happening; even the Queen conspired with politicians in secret. This book lays bare the whole story of this negative campaign. When you read it, and realise just how far the Unionists went, it is surprising that anyone voted for independence at all!

The Candidate written by Noah Richler and has been published by Doubleday Canada this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-10-18 with Political Science categories.

A comical and revealing account of what it's like to run for office with no political experience, little money and only a faint hope of winning, told first-hand by celebrated writer Noah Richler. During the 2015 federal election, approximately 1200 political campaigns were held across Canada. One of those campaigns belonged to author, journalist and political neophyte Noah Richler. Recruited by the NDP to run in the bellwether riding of Toronto-St Paul's, he was handed $350 and told he would lose. But as veteran NDP activists and social-media-savvy newbies joined his campaign, Richler found himself increasingly insulated from the stark reality that his campaign was flailing, imagining instead that he was headed to Parliament Hill. In The Candidate, Richler recounts his time on the trail in sizzling detail and hilarious frankness, from door knocking in Little Jamaica to being internet-shamed by experienced opponents. The Candidate lays bare what goes on behind the slogans, canvassing and talking points, told from the perspective of a political outsider. With his signature wit and probing eye, Noah Richler's chronicle of running for office is insightful, brutally honest and devastatingly funny.

Fear written by Corey Robin and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-10-01 with Philosophy categories.

For many commentators, September 11 inaugurated a new era of fear. But as Corey Robin shows in his unsettling tour of the Western imagination--the first intellectual history of its kind--fear has shaped our politics and culture since time immemorial. From the Garden of Eden to the Gulag Archipelago to today's headlines, Robin traces our growing fascination with political danger and disaster. As our faith in positive political principles recedes, he argues, we turn to fear as the justifying language of public life. We may not know the good, but we do know the bad. So we cling to fear, abandoning the quest for justice, equality, and freedom. But as fear becomes our intimate, we understand it less. In a startling reexamination of fear's greatest modern interpreters--Hobbes, Montesquieu, Tocqueville, and Arendt--Robin finds that writers since the eighteenth century have systematically obscured fear's political dimensions, diverting attention from the public and private authorities who sponsor and benefit from it. For fear, Robin insists, is an exemplary instrument of repression--in the public and private sector. Nowhere is this politically repressive fear--and its evasion--more evident than in contemporary America. In his final chapters, Robin accuses our leading scholars and critics of ignoring "Fear, American Style," which, as he shows, is the fruit of our most prized inheritances--the Constitution and the free market. With danger playing an increasing role in our daily lives and justifying a growing number of government policies, Robin's Fear offers a bracing, and necessary, antidote to our contemporary culture of fear.
