A Towering Novel! Chuck Culver's Best Work. Retired doctor David Somerset, grief-stricken with the recent loss of his beloved wife, is trying painfully to follow through with plans they both made to the English Cotswolds and to restore a 600-hundred-year-old cottage. Although he makes friends with a number of colorful locals in the town of Winchcomb, he is still agonizing over his loss. Then rescue arrives in the form of a mysterious metal box a workman finds in the walls of his cottage. Inside the box, straight from the 16th century, is a rare Tyndale Bible, the first English translation of the Scriptures and the cause of Thomas Tyndale's branding as a heretic by the Catholic Church and his burning at the stake. Also enclosed is the diary of a hitherto unknown priest named Father Christopher Moore, who was Tyndale's best friend and later a chaplain in the court of Henry VIII. The Calm in the Late Afternoon is one of those novels that is more than a read. It's a joyful immersion in life.

My ambition when I started this book was to allow the readers a chance to use their own imaginations and to come to their own conclusions. Nicholas is a fable. It is about a man who somehow manages to live his own life to the fullest. There are also fifteen other unconventional short stories included in this book. To sum up, I just wanted to write a thought provoking book that would be fun to read.

A London City banker finds himself writing scripts for Bollywood. Peasants at a Party is a collection of such fictional tales set in the UK, US and India where vicious politics, greed and lust intersect against a backdrop of the corporate world. Unmasking the shenanigans at play through her keen observation and imaginative storytelling, the author Sona Maniar brings her own experience of having lived and worked in six countries and takes us on an entertaining ride across the business landscape. With ups and downs and often a surprise twist at the end, the stories reveal the harshness beneath the apparent glamour and compel the reader to reflect, introspect and most importantly ask the question – Could this too happen in the workplace?

The stories in Flight Path & Other Stories reveal the power of kindness. In difficult moments of human contact, explored from childhood through old age, this collection provides a window into the kindness all people seek in moments of sorrow. In her poem Kindness, Naomi Shihab Nye writes that when you know sorrow as “the other deepest thing . . . then it is only kindness that makes sense anymore.” from - “Kindness” in Words Under The Words: Selected Poems (1995) by Naomi Shihab Nye. The dynamic mix of characters in these stories, know much about sorrow. They know it in the burden of a wife looking after her war-damaged husband and the son who confronts her more than 35 years after she abandons them. They know it in the struggle to hide from violence of the world, even though violence finds them. But they do know kindness, too. They know it in the unspoken understanding between a young man and his elderly aunt in the aftermath of a violent murder. They know it in small gestures between friends, and even strangers, after a sudden death, as well as through the unexpected connections found on the other end of the phone or a shared meal.
