In this book, Chesterton's brilliance as a writer and thinker again shine through as he explains his understanding of Catholicism and the Catholic Church and how its appeal to reason and truth eventually won him over. For Chesterton, two essentials lay at the heart of conversion, and without these, a man misses the point of it all. He describes these in his own words: ?One is that he believes it to be solid objective truth, which is true whether he likes it or not; and the other is that he seeks liberation from his sins."" That is why Chesterton became a Catholic, and what he describes in his unique and colorful way in this book.

Confessions Of A Convert written by Robert Hugh Benson and has been published by Ave Maria Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-11-07 with Religion categories.

Mentioned by Pope Francis as a writer whom everyone should read, Robert Hugh Benson, author of Lord of the World, shares his spiritual journey from being an Anglican and son of the archbishop of Canterbury to becoming a Roman Catholic priest. Through his humble, honest, and memorable story, Benson invites us—in this republished classic—to think about what it means to wrestle with the deep questions of our Catholic faith while rejoicing in the power of their universal truths. In 1907, The Ave Maria magazine invited well-known English novelist Robert Hugh Benson to share his conversion story. He began the first of eight installments with a statement that captures the perils and joys faced by converts as they attempt to "cross the Tiber." "When one stands at last upon high ground, it is extraordinarily difficult to trace the road by which one has approached: it winds, rises, falls, broadens and narrows until the mind is bewildered." Benson weaves those challenges into Confessions of a Convert as he examines his own life for the signs and wonders that illuminated his way. He was astonished at how the remote God of his Anglican upbringing drew close to him, igniting a fire in his to heart and a desire to know God on a deeper level. This transformation led him to the doorstep of the Catholic Church. Reluctant to venture further because he was known as an important figure in the Anglican world, Benson grappled with the sacrifices he would make, including the loss of his vocation, family, and friends. After the death of his father, Benson finally embraced the nearness of God found in the Eucharist. He shows us that coming closer to Christ and his Church is not always neat and tidy. Benson’s humor and humility help bridge the century-long gap between his time and ours and he teaches us to embrace the questions, struggles, and falterings of our faith in a way that’s full of God’s love.

Originally written as a personal testimony to his own children on why he became a Catholic, this is a thoughtful and timeless conversion story of Sir Joseph Pope written during the early part of the 20th century. Born in 1854 to a family renowned for distinguished service to the Canadian government, Joseph carried on the family tradition as a highly regarded civil servant. Like St. Thomas More, Pope was held in high esteem as a public servant, and he enjoyed the total confidence of prime ministers and governors, all whom sought his advice. He was a prolific author of some two dozen books and pamphlets, including the official biographies of major Canadian historical figures. Amidst this busy public life, Sir Joseph Pope developed a profound spiritual life and a mind always hungry for eternal truth. Raised in a nominal Anglican family, his persistent and courageous search for the fullness of truth and grace finally led him home to the Catholic Church.

Dear Reader: I believe this book is unique. No other book I’ve found is even remotely similar. It identifies and discusses issues and problems currently facing the Catholic Church in America. The Church in America is beset with difficulties. Catholic elementary schools are closing. There is a severe shortage of priests and religious sisters. Church attendance is dropping precipitously. There are lingering effects from the child sex abuse scandal among priests. Catholic couples in their child-bearing years face a moral dilemma in regard to birth control. There seems to be a growing dissonance between Church authority and the laity, in which primacy of conscience is replacing obedience to the Church. I address all of these matters and others. At the same time, I have learned there is much to be gained by being Catholic. Two recently published books analyzing biblical scripture have convinced me that Jesus Christ really is God, and that therefore I can attain salvation through following his precepts. For all its difficulties, the Church does a lot of good. Pope Francis provides outstanding moral leadership at a time this is desperately needed. The Church’s charitable activities at a parish and diocesan level are impressive. At a personal level, my conversion has helped me immeasurably by giving me peace of mind. During my conversion and first two years as a Catholic, I picked interesting subjects to study such as the Marian apparitions, the life of Thomas Merton, how the Church canonizes saints, the insights of C. S. Lewis about prayer, and Martin Luther’s condemnation of praying to Mary. I believe you also will find these interesting and hopefully helpful for you in some ways. Respectfully, Donald Johnson

Pope John XXIII said that "Christian doctrine should be guarded and taught more efficaciously." He also said we need to "Discover ways of teaching the faith more effectively." Largely in response to these types of directives from our Catholic Church leaders, Catholic author and guest speaker, Sean McVeigh, has written The Conversion Book: How to Effectively Help Protestants Convert to Catholicism. It provides a unique, modern, and powerful approach to Catholic evangelization. The Conversion Book is intended for adult and young adult Catholics of all levels of religious and evangelization experience. Whether the reader is a seasoned evangelist or someone who has never talked to another person about God before, The Conversion Book is specifically designed to help that person improve his or her ability to effectively share his or her belief in Jesus Christ and the teachings of Jesus' Holy Catholic Church. As each reader discovers very early in this publication, the process of training for effective evangelization begins with an intense focus on one's own prayer life and spiritual discernment. After the individual is spiritually prepared, Sean takes each reader through a very specific and systematic approach to evangelization that is sure to surprise many of the evangelizer's listeners. Ultimately, through using this approach, there will be many Protestants who will realize their need to leave some of their current theological ways of thinking behind in order to more fully embrace the truth that Jesus wants them to know and follow. The author believes there will be a massive exodus of people leaving the Protestant belief system in order to become Catholic once they have had the truth presented to them in an extremely effective and mature way. However, this exodus will only happen if Catholics at large intensify their evangelization efforts while implementing the most effective methods possible in helping Protestants convert. Lastly, this publication is a great resource for Protestants who are interested in learning more about the core differences between the Catholic and Protestant faiths.

Fr. John McCloskey has become a famous "convert maker" in the powerful corridors close to the White House. Having run the Catholic Information Center in the heart of Washington, DC from 1998 to 2004, McCloskey had direct contact with numerous well-known and lesser-known Washington figures. Among well-known Catholic converts instructed by Fr. McCloskey are Senator Sam Brownback, publisher Alfred Regnery, Dr. Bernard Nathanson, journalist Robert Novak and many others. This work is a joint effort of McCloskey and Russell Shaw, the widely read Catholic author, speaker, and former communications director for the U.S. bishops. Drawing on moving, firsthand accounts of conversions, this book combines personal testimony, solid theology, and effective methods of communicating the Catholic Faith. From personal experience, I can testify that Father C. John McCloskey is one of America's great Catholic evangelizers. This book is a unique, fascinating guide of how and why to convert, and it should be must reading for all Catholics. -Robert D. Novak, Syndicated Columnist Mr. Shaw and Fr. "There is no more articulate believer in the power and majesty of the Catholic Church than Fr. C. J. McCloskey. Any sincere searcher for Truth who is attracted to Christian--particularly Catholic--faith, will want to read this book. Agree or disagree with Fr. McClosky's unequivocal perspectives, his assertive witness provides much food for thought." -Wesley J. Catholic Street Evangelization written by Steve Dawson and has been published by Ignatius Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-12-14 with Religion categories.

This book begins with the inspiring story of Steve Dawson - his dramatic conversion to Catholicism as a young man and his founding of St. Paul Street Evangelization, an international apostolate that has grown to hundreds of teams in seven countries in just a few years. Also included are other moving stories of conversion and witness. The authors are ordinary Catholics who have come to love Christ so much that they now talk about Him with total strangers in public places - street corners, parks, and shopping areas. They aren't theologians, nor are they highly trained apologists with Ambrosian rhetorical skills or Dale Carnegie slickness, yet their simple missionary efforts have yielded amazing results. The book's style is readable, accessible, and conversational. It illustrates the missionary calling of all baptized Christians, including Catholics. It reveals the joy and fulfillment that come to those who humbly yet boldly share the good news of God's mercy with others.
