The Cell Nucleus, Volume I reports the basic concepts of cell nucleus, including nuclear structure, the interaction between the nucleus and cytoplasm, and the chromatin. This volume first describes the nucleus’ morphological structures and relates these structures to its functions. It then discusses nuclear organization in plant cells; morphology and biochemistry of the slime mold nucleus; and structure, function, and properties of nuclear envelope. In addition, it addresses the molecular movements between nucleus and cytoplasm against a concentration gradient, presents experiments with animal cell heterokaryons, and explains the genome in specialized cells. It also explores the organization of the chromatin fiber; the human chromosome structure before and after banding; and the ultrastructure and function of heterochromatin and euchromatin.

Biochemical and Structural Dynamics of the Cell Nucleus is a collection of papers dealing with the biology of the cell nucleus. The collection describes the methods used in isolating and defining the chemistry and functional interactions of the nuclear components. Some papers also discuss the diversity of the roles that these components play in regulating cellular phenotypes, differentiation, and proliferation. One paper discusses the possible role for lamin A in muscle differentiations, where due to its presence and the appearance of A-type lamins during the differentiation of a number of cell types, lamin A or any of its isoelectric variants cannot specifically be responsible for the induction of muscle specific gene expression. The work of Loewinger and McKeon (1988) can show evidence of the role for lamin A in the differential expression of muscle-specific genes during the process of myogenesis if the investigator uses an alternative method. Several papers also discuss the dynamics of assembly and disassembly of the nuclear lamina and envelope, DNA- and RNA-binding proteins, as well as the nucleocytoplasmic transport. The collection can prove valuable to biochemists, cellular biologists, microbiologists, and molecular biologists.

The Cell Nucleus, Volume III focuses mainly on nucleic acids, nuclear proteins, and special aspects of nuclear functions. This volume particularly discusses the organization of bacterial and viral DNA, as well as the nuclear DNA of eukaryotic organisms. It also describes nuclear DNA polymerases, precursors of messenger RNA, ribonucleoproteins, and nuclear high- and low-molecular-weight RNAs. Furthermore, this volume looks into the two broad classes of nuclear proteins: histones and nonhistone proteins. It also presents advances made in the knowledge of mammalian DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, cytochemical detection of nuclear enzymes, and nuclear protein synthesis. Moreover, it elucidates the effects of female steroid hormones on target cell nuclei, describes the nucleus during avian erythropoiesis, and reports the general properties of intranuclear viruses.

The Nucleolus written by Mark O. J. Olson and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-08-03 with Science categories.

As the first comprehensive overview of the nucleolus since 1985, The Nucleolus covers our current understanding of the cell nucleolus, including its role in ribosome assembly and its additional newly-discovered activities. The eighteen chapters have been written by experts who are actively engaged in research on the nucleolus and have an in depth review of the following topics: - nucleolar ultrastructure and dynamics, - behavior during mitosis, - ribosomal DNA gene and chromatin structure, - pre-ribosomal RNA transcription, - processing and modification, - ribosome assembly, - small nucleolar RNAs, - proteomics and non-traditional functions of the nucleolus. Separate chapters are also provided for yeast and higher eukaryotes on many topics. The Nucleolus will appeal not only to scientists directly engaged in nucleolar research, but also those working in related areas such as gene expression, protein biosynthesis, ribosome structure, transcription, chromatin structure, molecular genetics and the structure and functions of the cell nucleus in general.

The Cell Nucleus, Volume II covers mainly the chromosomes, including its pathology. It also reviews the information onthe isolated mitotic apparatus highlighting on its chemistryand relevant morphology. This volume particularly discusses the mammalian chromosomes, the staining techniques, the kinetics of DNA replication in chromosomes, and the difference of meiotic chromosomes from mitotic chromosomes. It also presents studies on isolated mammalian metaphase chromosomes; chromosomes of birds and plants; as well as the polytene chromosomes of the two-winged insects, the Diptera. Furthermore, this volume describes the giant chromosomes. Lastly, the autosomal disorders, the abnormalities of sex development, and types of virus-induced chromosome alterations are explained to elucidate the pathology of chromosome.

Calcium And Calmodulin Function In The Cell Nucleus written by Oriol Bachs and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-06-29 with Science categories.

This book is about the role of calcium and calmodulin in the cell nucleus. Calcium, which is an important second messenger of signal transduction pathways, can also operate in the cell nucleus. Different calcium binding proteins, which are the targets of cellular calcium, have been identified in the nucleus of many different cell types. Prominent among these calcium binding proteins is calmodulin, which appears to be involved in the regulation of major nuclear functions such as gene expression and DNA replication.

The Cell Nucleus, Volume IX: Nuclear Particles, Part B discusses "splicing", "processing", and the controls of transcriptional and transport events which must be essential to cells that are either growing or are phenotypically differentiated. The book describes the characteristics and structure of nuclear 30 S RNP particles; as well as the composition and general topology of RNA and protein in monomer 40 S ribonucleoprotein particles. The text also demonstrates the two-dimensional gel electrophoresis of nuclear particles and immunocytochemistry of nuclear hnRNP complexes; the enzymatic activities associated with hnRNP; and the digestion products of nuclear ribonucleoprotein. The nucleocytoplasmic transport of mRNA; the nucleocytoplasmic transport of ribosomal subparticles; and the rnp particles involved in release of in vitro synthesized poly(a)-containing RNA in isolated nuclei are also considered. The book further tackles nuclear bodies as functional indicators in the target cells of sex steroid hormone; and the functional implications of nuclear glycoproteins and glycosaminoglycans. Cell biologists, geneticists, pharmacologists, molecular biologists, biochemists, and students taking related courses will find the book invaluable.
