The most crucial task facing Christian theology today is the furtherance of dialogue with the religious traditions of the world great and small and with the scientific worldview. The starting premise of this book is that the two dialogues need to be carried on simultaneously and equiprimordially, despite the risk of undermining the traditional foundations of the Christian faith. The author argues that such a crisis can be averted by breaking through its core and opening faith to an experience of nothingness. He draws on the Buddhist philosophy of the Kyoto School philosopher Nishitani Keiji to propose new paths toward a theology of religious pluralism grounded in a Huayan Buddhist vision of reality.

The journey of awakening is simply the remembrance of what we are in truth. There are no mysteries and no secrets: only the undoing of what obscures the simplicity of our wholeness. A poem may not contain that which falls naturally outside the bounds of wordiness, but it can point in direction of love. It can make clear the next step. It can testify to the mind's shift from separation to union. Sooner or later, that which is personal dissolves, and that which goes nameless and timeless assumes again the Center that is Everywhere.

A varied and fascinating look at sin, confession and pardon in Judaism. Through a series of lively introductions and commentaries, almost forty contributors—men and women, scholars, rabbis, theologians and poets, representing all Jewish denominations—examine the history of confession in Judaism, its roots in the Bible, its evolution in rabbinic and modern thought, and the very nature of confession for men and women today. Featuring the traditional prayers—provided in the original Hebrew and a new and annotated translation—this third volume in the Prayers of Awe series explores the relevance of confession today in what is bound to be the most up-to-date, comprehensive and insightful reconsideration of sin and confession in Judaism.
