One thing is for sure. America will never be the same after "911". Emotions range from paranoia to naive passivity. The author takes a decidedly different common sense approach. He will help you prepare for commonly overlooked areas such as crime, natural and personal disasters, and even worse-case scenarios. The author, Jeff Springfield, is an experienced former community crisis center coordinator, advanced first aid instructor, drug overdose aid trainer, a certified school teacher in three States, professional researcher, and business owner. He offers hundreds of concrete answers and food-for-thought to important and common questions. Special emphasis is placed on surviving potential natural and personal disasters, crime, biological contamination, staying healthy, divorce, unemployment, financial ruin, finding and making safe water, and even the possibilities of surviving the unthinkable...an actual nuclear attack to your area! The author discusses the many aspects of practical everyday emergency preparedness and basic protection for you and your loved ones. Subjects covered range from the psychological effects to the historical and current-event based probabilities of future man-made conflicts or disasters. If you are looking for shallow opinions from paranoids, crystal ball gazers, soothsayers, or people claiming supernatural powers you may not be interested in this book. But, if you are simply a mainstream person looking for rationale, facts-based answers you should be thoroughly delighted with what it has to offer. So, how would you like save a bundle in time and money by listening to someone who has done all of the painstaking research for you? If so, this is the lazy-person's book for you! You will receive an exacting list of recommended emergency preparedness items including: First aid supplies, food, hardware, auto emergency kit, and clothing that you should own now. You will be coached on which items will be your "stay-at-home" supplies and which will be your" hit the road" stash. In addition you will receive vendor names with their traditional contact information as well as their Internet Website addresses. There has never been a book like this one. This is not just another book written by an aggressive "gung-ho survival nut". Instead, this book is a rationale common sense guide for everyday people seeking honest preparation for the more probable and potential threats that they may encounter. The author has been researching and updating the recommendations in this book for an amazing thirty years! It is clearly a labor of love. It is hard hitting, to-the-point with no fluff. If there was only one book you should own during these anxious and uncertain times... This is it!

Best Care At Lower Cost written by Institute of Medicine and has been published by National Academies Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-05-10 with Medical categories.

America's health care system has become too complex and costly to continue business as usual. Best Care at Lower Cost explains that inefficiencies, an overwhelming amount of data, and other economic and quality barriers hinder progress in improving health and threaten the nation's economic stability and global competitiveness. According to this report, the knowledge and tools exist to put the health system on the right course to achieve continuous improvement and better quality care at a lower cost. The costs of the system's current inefficiency underscore the urgent need for a systemwide transformation. About 30 percent of health spending in 2009-roughly $750 billion-was wasted on unnecessary services, excessive administrative costs, fraud, and other problems. Moreover, inefficiencies cause needless suffering. By one estimate, roughly 75,000 deaths might have been averted in 2005 if every state had delivered care at the quality level of the best performing state. This report states that the way health care providers currently train, practice, and learn new information cannot keep pace with the flood of research discoveries and technological advances. About 75 million Americans have more than one chronic condition, requiring coordination among multiple specialists and therapies, which can increase the potential for miscommunication, misdiagnosis, potentially conflicting interventions, and dangerous drug interactions. Best Care at Lower Cost emphasizes that a better use of data is a critical element of a continuously improving health system, such as mobile technologies and electronic health records that offer significant potential to capture and share health data better. In order for this to occur, the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, IT developers, and standard-setting organizations should ensure that these systems are robust and interoperable. Clinicians and care organizations should fully adopt these technologies, and patients should be encouraged to use tools, such as personal health information portals, to actively engage in their care. This book is a call to action that will guide health care providers; administrators; caregivers; policy makers; health professionals; federal, state, and local government agencies; private and public health organizations; and educational institutions.
