Children's book based upon a tale from the Lotus Sutra found in the chapter of the same name King Wonderful Adornment. It has been many years I have had the idea of turning this story found with in this sacred text of Buddhism into a children's story. There are few books currently for children on Buddhism and fewer still from the Lotus Sutra. Through the actions of the children they are able to convince their father to take faith in the Lotus Sutra. Our actions speak louder than our words, yet it is difficult to always do the things that would shine a favorable light on our beliefs. Doing good requires, at times, supernatural powers. How difficult is it to do the right thing? When no one is looking? When no one praises? When others are doing harm? These are all matters every human struggles with. It isn't easy to do good, to be good. As an extra treat the illustrator has included some Easter Eggs in his delightful illustrations. Kanjo Grohman truly brings the story to life through his art work. At the conclusion of the book I, Ryusho, talk about some of the revelations I experienced as Kanjo and I worked to complete this book. I hope this book will be inspirational, and perhaps offer assistance for both the child in the adult and the child of the adult. A winter illness left Lotus, a little girl, without a voice and without friends. A hunter's bullet left Feather, a crane, injured and unable to fly. As Lotus nurses Feather back to health, their bond grows. Soon Feather is following Lotus everywhere, even to school! The bird dances to the girl's reed whistle, much to the delight of the other children. One day, when the village floods, Feather helps raise the alarm as Lotus and her grandfather urge their neighbors to get to high ground. Feather is a true friend to Lotus, but the time comes when Lotus must be a true friend to him--by encouraging him to migrate with the rest of the cranes. The next spring, Feather miraculously returns, and that's not all . . . he has brought new life to the nearby lake. Inspired by the true story of a crane that rescued a Chinese village, and graced with sensitive watercolor illustrations, this lovely book about respecting nature offers deep emotion and delightful surprises.

This is Goldie's chance to talk about everything from anger and fear, to love, compassion, friendship, and the many challenges she's faced in her career. First recalling her early days as the little girl from suburbia who longed to be a ballerina but felt like an ugly duckling, Goldie then takes us on a whirlwind tour through her go-go dancing years in 1960s New York, her phenomenal success on TV's Rowan & Martin's Laugh-in, Hollywood stardom and her extraordinary experiences in films such as the Oscar-winning Cactus Flower, Swing Shift, and Private Benjamin. She also speaks about her relationship with her family - partner Kurt Russell, her children Kate Hudson, Oliver Hudson and Wyatt Russell, and her stepson Boston. Written with compassion and integrity, A Lotus Grows in the Mud is an insightful and inspiring look back at a life well lived by a woman well loved.
