Before Emily in Paris, there was Kim in NYC. Swap out Crazy Rich Asians for Crazy Broke Asians, lured by the city that never sleeps in search of their American dreams. Kim was ready to take a bite off the Big Apple, but the Big Apple decided to take a bite off her. This memoir showcases a SoHo-living, straight girl in an LG, sans the BTQA+ world. Kim's NYC adventure started in 2001, and she faced serious challenges. Everything from being a diamond runner to being laid off from her advertising job due to discrimination. She battled racism, gender bias, and xenophobia before 'Woke Culture' even had a name. She shares her colorful life, from her rooftop parties that attracted more than just party-goers to surprising romantic encounters and shocking revelations in the midst of a feminist sexual revolution. She gives the scoop on her brushes with the drug scene, the porn industry, and even her bond with a homeless man. Plus, she's got some juicy stories about dating a mysterious actor, surviving NYC's biggest blackout, and celebrity run-ins. This book is a shout-out to those who braved the Big Apple, fell through the cracks, but kept going. To her, it's not about success, it's about courage. This is a tale about finding your place in a new world, finding comfort amidst chaos, finding love, and getting stronger through setbacks and failures. Phil Claussen couldn’t very well leave her out there in the middle of nowhere, shoeless and barely dressed, so he offers her a ride. When he asks why she’s hitchhiking on a deserted road, she says, “Waiting for you. I’ve been waiting for you for a long time.” “Impossible,” he says. “I’ve never set foot in Oklahoma before.” He asks more questions, but gets very few answers. They are on the road together for three days before he learns her name, Dani. He soon discovers that he’s driven into a realm where events seem to be all set and waiting for his arrival, a place where his own treasured free will means very little. Falling in love with Dani becomes his favorite part of the process. But if it was all arranged so carefully before he got there, how does he wind up in jail charged with two murders and Dani as the chief witness for the prosecution?

This accessible, rigorously researched and highly revealing book lifts the lid on political party membership. It represents the first in-depth study of six of the UK's biggest parties – Labour, the Conservatives, the Scottish National Party, the Liberal Democrats, UK Independence Party and the Greens – carried out simultaneously, thereby providing invaluable new insights into members' social characteristics, attitudes, activities and campaigning, reasons for joining and leaving, and views on how their parties should be run and who should represent them. In short, at a time of great pressure on, and change across parties, this book helps us discover not only what members want out of their parties but what parties want out of their members. This text is essential reading for those interested in political parties, party membership, elections and campaigning, representation, and political participation, be they scholars and students of British and comparative politics, or politicians, journalists and party members – in short, anyone who cares about the future of representative democracy.

Christianity And Party Politics written by Martin Steven and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-12-09 with Political Science categories.

Christianity and Party Politics aims to discuss and evaluate the contemporary relationship between party politics and religion. The book focuses on the important role of the Church in both electoral politics and public policy formulation in the twenty first century, and argues that contrary to the established secularisation argument generally applied in Europe, religion continues to be a powerful influence, particularly within British politics. Steven begins by examining the basics of electoral and party behaviour, how religious affiliation has traditionally influenced the way people choose to vote, and how recent surveys have suggested it continues to do so. Moving on to discuss how this affects the behaviour of party politicians, the role of the Christian church as an interest group is analysed; to what extent are these major societal institutions continuing to influence public policy decisions? Broadening the debate out to the international context, the work evaluates how the relationship between party politics and religion has been affected by global factors, the 'war on terror' for example. This discussion is developed through analysing the influences on the way in which Christian groups choose to lobby and influence public policy. Steven suggests that increasing European integration is forcing Christian groups to become more pro-active in their approach, to combat the decline in the more 'automatic' domestic influence they previously enjoyed. In relation this to the influence of American politics is analysed, debating whether tactics from the more pluralist US system being adopted by Church leaders elsewhere? Providing a valuable and long overdue contribution to the field, this work will provide readers with a detailed knowledge of how the worlds of politics and religion interact.
