From the senior police officer who puts the word in to the prosecution, who then puts the word into the ear of the judge. He will even know what you've had for breakfast. In my latest court case at Coventry Magistrates Court, I was charged with refusing to name the driver of a vehicle that I had sold, even though I had informed the police. The prosecution caught the eye of the judge and held it... Your honour, this is a difficult case... and there are more serious charges... The judge nodded imperceptibly... I was found guilty after 5 minutes. No witnesses. No press. You can guess what my chances are for an appeal. What serious charges? I've heard nothing... In September an ex-tenant broke into my house with eight mates in balaclavas and robbed me. In April a plumber broke into one of my properties; stole a boiler and a waste trap. He admitted it on WhatsApp! In both cases the police have done nothing. No evidence you see... The police pick on easy targets to get their results. If it's too difficult they turn away...

A Synopsis of Materials and Teaching Process: Values-based stories, grades 522, three stories each level, address interest categories of adventure, biography, children/family, church history/religion, cross-cultural stories, history, problems/challenges, human relations, and missions. The first class session offers an inventory of each students reading experience, interests, and felt needs. Students indicate story preferences within the categorized stories. A graded story list aids teacher planning. In daily free class discussion, students use questions generated while reading and the thought questions provided with each story. Appendix C: The Daily Class Discussion Assignment helps thinking flow. The teacher assigns the Final Written Reflection for that days story and begins process on the subsequent story. Dr. Nance did not see a truck driver who could not read or write wellshe saw potential. I cannot really comment on the technical side of what she did, and I cannot tell you how or what she didbut whatever it wasit obviously worked. She transformed a truck driver who had done little reading into someone who finished his bachelors, masters, and has now completed a doctoral degree! What I do know is that her kind spirit and gentle encouragement spurred me onwards toward a thirst for reading and learning all I can. Gadamer's Path to Plato investigates the formative years of Hans-Georg Gadamer's Plato studies, while studying with Martin Heidegger at Marburg University. It outlines the evolution of Heidegger's understanding of Plato, explains why his hermeneutics and phenomenological method inspired Gadamer, and why Heidegger's argument, that Plato was responsible for Western civilization's forgetting the meaning of existence, provoked him. Heidegger's provocation was crucial to the development of Gadamer's understanding of Plato. This book thus puts forward an argument for Gadamer's having indirectly refuted Heidegger's Plato. This involves a dialogical relationship to the past and a re-examination of the relation of Plato to Aristotle in matters of ethics, physics, and truth. Above all, however, it is Gadamer's concept of Platonic dialectic that refutes Heidegger. This challenge to Heidegger's Plato was commensurate with the origination of Gadamer's positive hermeneutical philosophy. In order to test the alleged openness of that philosophy to the other as other Gadamer's reading of the Republic is scrutinized by using the brilliant scholarship of Stanley Rosen. An examination of their interpretations of the Republic includes an inquiry into their intellectual influences. For Gadamer these include Hegel, the Tubingen school and Jacob Klein; for Rosen, the poetic genius of Leo Strauss. Rosen's mathematical and poetic orientation is then compared to Gadamer's dialectical orientation to Plato. The mathematical approach dovetails with a theory of human nature and procedural rationalism in Gadamer's hermeneutical philosophy that explains why he, in contrast to Rosen, bypasses important dimensions of the Republic such as the significance of particular characters and settings to understanding the whole. In turn, this methodological shortcoming calls into question the truth of Gadamer's method and, with it, the foundations of a truly open and pluralist society.
