The Collaborative Body in Qualitative Research challenges normative philosophies that have frequently neglected the body’s place in research and then illustrates how the body is essential for all meaning making. By ‘voicing the body’, the first part of this rebellious book problematizes how the body is used/assessed, yet often silenced in academic writing. This book then fluidly moves to celebrating the body through discussing taboo topics like sex/sexuality in friendship, underwear (knickers), ageing, and death, as well as how a non-binary body moves in a heteronormative world. Through the lens of Bodyography, this book does research differently – illuminating how the body flourishes, excites knowledge, and is complicated when placed on a ‘screen’. This book celebrates a collaborative and arts-based approach. This book is a dialogue between The Bodies Collective, with dialogic resonance sections between each chapter and art pieces throughout. This book will encourage all scholars to do research differently. Anyone with a thirst to challenge normative practices in academia and who wants research to be inspiring and playful will fall in love with this book. N.B. Meeting a key need for qualitative researchers, this practical book presents tools for creating productive partnerships and managing each phase of a collaborative project. The authors provide guidelines for working across disciplines, status differentials (such as professor and student), and geographical locations. Collaboration within particular qualitative traditions--cross-cultural research, duoethnography, participatory action research, arts-based collaborations, and others--is described and illustrated with exemplars of published studies. Readers learn how to build research teams, formulate research questions, gather and analyze data, and assess how collaborations are working. Ethical questions are highlighted throughout: Who owns collaborative research? Who decides what aspects of the findings should be disseminated? How can inequitable power relations be redressed? Within-chapter "Pedagogical Pathways" sections provide practice exercises and opportunities for reflection. Honorable Mention, ICQI Outstanding Qualitative Book Award Winner--American Educational Studies Association Critics’ Choice Award

With the growth of work based learning and practitioner research this book leads the way by addressing key issues faced by ′insider-researchers′ - learners, practitioners and managers doing research projects in the organizations and communities in which they themselves work, or where they are already familiar with the setting. The authors explore the implications of these research contexts, and discuss approaches and methodologies that work based researchers might adopt, with a particular focus on ethics - one of the key concerns for those undertaking a research project of this type. This book is an authoritative and readable guide to the theory and practice of work based research. It is for anyone undertaking a research project based on work practice, including learners on postgraduate, undergraduate and doctoral programmes. Practitioners, managers and participants in work based courses or modules in education, healthcare and business management, will find it particularly useful.

Doing Writing Qualitative Research written by Adrian Holliday and has been published by SAGE this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-01-24 with Education categories.
Accessible, practical and concise, this revised edition expertly tackles the practical problems which writers face when they attempt to transfer the rich data experience of their real world research into a textual product. New attention is paid to the crucial issues of the nature and use of visual data, personal narrative, core and periphery data, and data reconstruction and fictionalization. Sensitive issues dealing with the appropriate use of identity in research settings are clearly discussed, while techniques for avoiding reductive judgements are presented and critically discussed. By making the workings of written study transparent, the book demonstrates how to manage subjectivity and achieve scientific rigour in the qualitative research process. This book provides accessible advice for novice researchers on where to begin and how to proceed. But much more than a simple manual, it also guides the more experience researcher through the social, cultural and political complexities involved in every step of the way. It is an essential tool for students in all disciplines that engage in qualitative research, including sociology, applied linguistics, management, sport science, health studies and education.
