This book is about identifying the people of God and questioning whether the word "church" correctly describes them. The religious landscape in America is filled with different churches hoping to build their membership. They all have requirements that are expected in order to be in good standing with the organization. Is this scene found in the Bible? If not, what has happened historically that produced what we have, today? In answering this question, we explore the translation of the Greek word from which "church" is translated and distinguish it from the denominations/churches with the unique facets of their own tradition. Our purpose is to challenge the reader to review their own traditions in light of the Biblical description. Definitions are critical in any study and this one requires an understanding of terms before we are able to make any true comparisons. But, more importantly, we are very interested in pointing out how the Greek word "ekklesia" is used in the contexts of Scripture. It is believed that the interaction of early Christians looked very different that they do today. Did they form themselves into an organization that owns property with hours of operation posted on it? Does this arrangement that hires men and women to perform certain tasks, such as preaching in their pulpits, describe the work of the early church? If not, where does that practice originate? Our goal in answering these questions is to demonstrate a pattern in the Scriptures that reveal a very simple way of life among the people of God and present some historical events that we believe developed the Christianity that we know, today. I recognize that in publishing this book, I risk the support and fellowship of dear friends. I only pray that all readers carefully study the material.

The Community Of Jesus written by Kendell H. Easley and has been published by B&H Publishing Group this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-09-15 with Religion categories.

Intended for upper division college students, seminarians, and pastors, The Community of Jesus delivers a biblical, historic, systematic, and missional theology of the church. Today the word church provokes wide-ranging reactions and generates discussion on a variety of issues among Christians and non-Christians alike. In order to sort through this maze of responses and topics, a biblical and theological foundation must be laid that provides a clear vision of the church of the Lord Jesus Christ and its significance in God’s eternal purpose. With extensive pastoral, teaching, missions, and administrative experience, this team of contributors carefully sets forth the biblical teachings concerning the church and then builds on this core material, relating the theology of the church to salvation history, church history, God’s glory, and God’s mission: • Paul R. House, “God Walks with His People: Old Testament Foundations”• Andreas J. Köstenberger, “The Church According to the Gospels”• Kendell H. Easley, “The Church in Acts and Revelation: New Testament Bookends”• David S. Dockery, “The Church in the Pauline Epistles”• Ray Van Neste, “The Church in the General Epistles”• James A. Patterson, “The Church in History: Ecclesiastical Ideals and Institutional Realities”• Stephen J.Wellum, “Beyond Mere Ecclesiology: The Church as God’s New Covenant Community”• Christopher W. Morgan, “The Church and the Glory of God”• Bruce Riley Ashford, “The Church in the Mission of God”

"This study in Johannine ecclesiology reconstructs the history of one Christian community in the first century -- a community whose life from its inception to its last hour is reflected in the Gospel and Epistles of John. It was a community that struggled with the world, with the Jews, and with other Christians. Eventually the struggle spread even to its own ranks. It was, in short, a community not unlike the Church of today. This book offers a different view of the traditional Johannine eagle. In the Gospel the eagle soars above the earth, but with talons bared for the fray. In the Epistles we discover the eaglets tearing at each other for possession of the nest" -- Back cover.
