Volume 37 Sermons 2182-2236 Charles Spurgeon (19 June 1834 – 31 January 1892) is one of the church’s most famous preachers and Christianity’s foremost prolific writers. Called the “Prince of Preachers,” he was one of England's most notable ministers for most of the second half of the nineteenth century, and he still remains highly influential among Christians of different denominations today. His sermons have spread all over the world, and his many printed works have been cherished classics for decades. In his lifetime, Spurgeon preached to more than 10 million people, often up to ten times each week. He was the pastor of the congregation of the New Park Street Chapel (later the Metropolitan Tabernacle) in London for 38 years. He was an inexhaustible author of various kinds of works including sermons, commentaries, an autobiography, as well as books on prayer, devotionals, magazines, poetry, hymns and more. Spurgeon was known to produce powerful sermons of penetrating thought and divine inspiration, and his oratory and writing skills held his audiences spellbound. Many Christians have discovered Spurgeon's messages to be among the best in Christian literature. Edward Walford wrote in Old and New London: Volume 6 (1878) quoting an article from the Times regarding one of Spurgeon’s meetings at Surrey: “Fancy a congregation consisting of 10,000 souls, streaming into the hall, mounting the galleries, humming, buzzing, and swarming—a mighty hive of bees—eager to secure at first the best places, and, at last, any place at all. After waiting more than half an hour—for if you wish to have a seat you must be there at least that space of time in advance—Mr. Spurgeon ascended his tribune. To the hum, and rush, and trampling of men, succeeded a low, concentrated thrill and murmur of devotion, which seemed to run at once, like an electric current, through the breast of every one present, and by this magnetic chain the preacher held us fast bound for about two hours. It is not my purpose to give a summary of his discourse. It is enough to say of his voice, that its power and volume are sufficient to reach every one in that vast assembly; of his language, that it is neither high-flown nor homely; of his style, that it is at times familiar, at times declamatory, but always happy, and often eloquent; of his doctrine, that neither the 'Calvinist' nor the 'Baptist' appears in the forefront of the battle which is waged by Mr. Spurgeon with relentless animosity, and with Gospel weapons, against irreligion, cant, hypocrisy, pride, and those secret bosom-sins which so easily beset a man in daily life; and to sum up all in a word, it is enough to say of the man himself, that he impresses you with a perfect conviction of his sincerity.” More than a hundred years after his death, Charles Spurgeon’s legacy continues to effectively inspire the church around the world. For this reason, Delmarva Publications has chosen to publish the complete works of Charles Spurgeon.

He was a prolific writer and produced many kinds of works including sermons, commentaries, and autobiography, as well as books on prayer, devotionals, magazines, poetry, hymns and much more. His ability to speak and provoke thought with divine inspiration has amazed audiences in his lifetime as well as now. Spurgeon’s messages have been considered the best literature worldwide. While he is most remembered for being a minster and having a church, his most powerful influence was that he exercised on his fellow ministers and theological students. He organized a college, trained approximately 850 students, spoke at an annual conference of ministers, and looked at this as just part of ’life’s labour and delight’ and these facts are not known as well today. These lectures are filled with down to earth practical points and advice for young ministers. His sense of humor seasons his lectures with an air of refreshment that cannot be found elsewhere. Spurgeon's Lectures to my Students, contains the substance of Spurgeon's regular Friday afternoon addresses to the college students. Only eternity will tell of the lives who were changed and blessed by the faithful service of Steve Brown and Wes Ross. As lifelong friends, colleagues in ministry, and co-founders of the Berkshire Institute for Christian Studies (BICS), Steve Brown and Wes Ross have pointed many students to the truth of God’s Word and urged them to take hold of His precious promises. On the occasion of their retirement from leadership at the institute, friends, colleagues, mentors, and students have teamed up to honor their legacy. The essays in this volume are built upon the same theological foundation so instrumental to the success of BICS, a foundation that has, as its cornerstone, the blood-bought promises of our faithful God. Friends, family, colleagues, and students will be heartened by this tribute to two men who have sacrificed greatly for the kingdom of God. More importantly, all who read this book will be encouraged to continue standing on the promises of God.

Prompted by a friend to describe Jesus as he is--not as he was or will be in the coming days--Dick Eastman found himself stammering. What followed over many months was a desire to get to know the Jesus who had changed his life, but in a much fuller and richer way--now! From then on, on scraps of folded paper in his pockets, Eastman found himself recording adjectives describing the nature and character of Jesus Christ, expanding them later into a personal devotional journal. Reflecting Eastman's spiritual journey, this book of insights will challenge you to see Jesus as you may never have seen him before. Eastman's approach to studying the nature and names of Jesus will bring you closer to your Savior. Each day of this enriching 31-day resource consists of Scripture, a short exposition, insights from Christian leaders, a prayer, and a practical application to help deepen your faith. You, too, will find Jesus awesome!

The majority of Amish and conservative Mennonites are certain concerning church and lifestyle practices, but are content to avoid diving into most deep, biblical topics. That lack made compiling this book a bit of a challenge, so we drew heavily from The Dordrecht Confession of Faith and information provided by Anabaptist scholars of today to make sure we accurately portray what the majority of plain people believe. Each chapter focuses on one important biblical topic and is essentially an Amish and Mennonite systematic theology study. In addition, each section includes a closer look at what the Bible teaches about each topic. That biblical context makes this an informative resource for those who wish to know more about the plain people and a helpful book for Anabaptists who wish to better understand what they themselves are being taught and believe. This study defines: Who is God the Father? Who is Jesus Christ? Who is the Holy Spirit? What is the Bible? What and Who is the Church? What are Angels, Demons, and Satan? What is Humanity and Who are Men and Women? What Happens at the End?

When the Prince of Preachers steps into the open air, the result will change his ministry forever. Using Charles Spurgeon’s own words, as well as contemporary accounts, E. G. Romine digs deep into the legendary pastor’s unexamined legacy of open-air preaching. In The Booming Baritone Bell of England, Romine argues that Spurgeon’s open-air preaching was a profound influence not only on his audience, but on Spurgeon himself. A thorough and thoughtful exploration of a neglected area of Spurgeon’s ministry, Romine’s exhaustively-researched book will appeal to casual readers and scholars alike.

“There is no such thing as ‘dead Calvinism,’” writes author Ian Hamilton. Calvinism, simply put, is biblical Christianity. No mere human devised theological system, Calvinism is rooted in and shaped by God’s revelation in Holy Scripture. Hamilton asserts that Calvinism is “natively experiential.” In What Is Experiential Calvinism? , the author shows us that Calvinism is far richer and more profound than five points and helps us see that the lives and ministries of those who are true Calvinists pulse with living, Spirit-inspired, Christ-glorifying, God-centred truth.
