It is by no means clear what comprises the "heart" or "core" of algebra, the part of algebra which every algebraist should know. Hence we feel that a book on "our heart" might be useful. We have tried to catch this heart in a collection of about 150 short sections, written by leading algebraists in these areas. These sections are organized in 9 chapters A, B, . . . , I. Of course, the selection is partly based on personal preferences, and we ask you for your understanding if some selections do not meet your taste (for unknown reasons, we only had problems in the chapter "Groups" to get enough articles in time). We hope that this book sets up a standard of what all algebraists are supposed to know in "their" chapters; interested people from other areas should be able to get a quick idea about the area. So the target group consists of anyone interested in algebra, from graduate students to established researchers, including those who want to obtain a quick overview or a better understanding of our selected topics. The prerequisites are something like the contents of standard textbooks on higher algebra. This book should also enable the reader to read the "big" Handbook (Hazewinkel 1999-) and other handbooks. In case of multiple authors, the authors are listed alphabetically; so their order has nothing to do with the amounts of their contributions.

A Concise Handbook of Mathematics, Physics, and Engineering Sciences takes a practical approach to the basic notions, formulas, equations, problems, theorems, methods, and laws that most frequently occur in scientific and engineering applications and university education. The authors pay special attention to issues that many engineers and students find difficult to understand. The first part of the book contains chapters on arithmetic, elementary and analytic geometry, algebra, differential and integral calculus, functions of complex variables, integral transforms, ordinary and partial differential equations, special functions, and probability theory. The second part discusses molecular physics and thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism, oscillations and waves, optics, special relativity, quantum mechanics, atomic and nuclear physics, and elementary particles. The third part covers dimensional analysis and similarity, mechanics of point masses and rigid bodies, strength of materials, hydrodynamics, mass and heat transfer, electrical engineering, and methods for constructing empirical and engineering formulas. The main text offers a concise, coherent survey of the most important definitions, formulas, equations, methods, theorems, and laws. Numerous examples throughout and references at the end of each chapter provide readers with a better understanding of the topics and methods. Additional issues of interest can be found in the remarks. For ease of reading, the supplement at the back of the book provides several long mathematical tables, including indefinite and definite integrals, direct and inverse integral transforms, and exact solutions of differential equations.

A Concise Introduction To Algebraic Varieties written by Brian Osserman and has been published by American Mathematical Society this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-12-02 with Mathematics categories.

A Concise Introduction to Algebraic Varieties is designed for a one-term introductory course on algebraic varieties over an algebraically closed field, and it provides a solid basis for a course on schemes and cohomology or on specialized topics, such as toric varieties and moduli spaces of curves. The book balances generality and accessibility by presenting local and global concepts, such as nonsingularity, normality, and completeness using the language of atlases, an approach that is most commonly associated with differential topology. The book concludes with a discussion of the Riemann-Roch theorem, the Brill-Noether theorem, and applications. The prerequisites for the book are a strong undergraduate algebra course and a working familiarity with basic point-set topology. A course in graduate algebra is helpful but not required. The book includes appendices presenting useful background in complex analytic topology and commutative algebra and provides plentiful examples and exercises that help build intuition and familiarity with algebraic varieties.
