The Count of Monte Cristo as Retold by Sherlock Holmes begins with a condensed retelling of The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, related through the voice of Sherlock Holmes. It includes exhilarating new adventures, characters, and ideas, carrying the reader through book I leading to book II and with book III promising an ever-expanding new series based on the classic. The author consulted the original French as well as the oldest English translations of The Count of Monte Cristo, but the style of the retelling, in the distinctive voice of Sherlock Holmes, constitutes a new work. Books II and III, soon to follow, are wholly original sequels although they include characters from the original classic. The author of The Count of Monte Cristo as Retold by Sherlock Holmes enjoyed the 2003 translation by Robin Buss of the The Count of Monte Cristo, which helped to inspire both this work and the first sequel in this series, The Sultan of Monte Cristo. The most recent (2003) unabridged translation by Buss is indispensable to fully appreciate the original story. Those who have already had the pleasure of reading The Sultan of Monte Cristo will certainly appreciate the unique way in which the Holy Ghost Writer has expanded the original story without the help of anyone (except perhaps from the ghost of Dumas himself). While The Count of Monte Cristo has been enjoyed by millions as a stand-alone work, this work is an even easier read of the original classic, as it has a condensed version of the original story, uniquely retold in the voice of Sherlock Holmes.

Adventures Of Tom Sawyer As Retold By Sherlock Holmes written by Holy Ghost Writer and has been published by CreateSpace this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-07-24 with Juvenile Fiction categories.

In this illustrated version, Tom Sawyer is still a troublemaker as we hear this classic story being told by Sherlock Holmes. After Tom gets in trouble, he is ordered by Aunt Polly, with whom he lives, to whitewash their fence. When his friends see him painting the fence, Tom pretends like he loves the chore to make his friends jealous. They beg him to let them help. This is a prime example of Tom's manipulative behavior. Sherlock Holmes tells how romantically devoted Tom is to Becky Thatcher, a new girl in town. They like each other, but Becky is hurt when she finds out that Tom liked someone else before her. Eventually, he takes the blame for a book she ruined, making her like him again. Sherlock Holmes shows us how Tom is always getting into trouble, usually with his friend, Huckleberry Finn. Together they sneak out to a graveyard at night, where they witness Injun Joe murder Dr. Robinson. Dr. Watson is amused that Tom, Huck, and their friend, Joe Harper, run away for a little while, making the town think they are dead. Eventually they come back, though, and Tom testifies against Injun Joe in court. Subsequently, Sherlock Holmes relates how Injun Joe runs away and Tom is terrified to death. His terror does not stop him from making trouble, though. While he and Huck are hunting for treasure one night, they discover that Injun Joe, who is disguised as a deaf-mute Spaniard, has treasure of his own to bury. Dr. Watson learns why Huck agrees to spy on Injun Joe to see where he buries the treasure, while Tom goes on a picnic with his class to McDougal's Cave. During the picnic, Tom and Becky wander off and get lost. Huck figures out that Injun Joe plans on hurting Widow Douglas. He reports the crime and Injun Joe runs away to McDougal's Cave. Meanwhile, Tom and Becky are lost for several days in the cave. Eventually they stumble across Injun Joe, but hide before he sees them. Shortly after, Tom figures out how to get out of the cave with Becky. He tells Judge Thatcher about Injun Joe being inside and the town decides to seal Injun Joe inside the cave. Later, Tom returns to the cave, where he discovers Injun Joe's starved corpse. Shortly thereafter, he and Huck discover where Injun Joe hid his gold. The Widow Douglas adopts Huck, who is unhappy about this development. Tom convinces him to give it a try, promising that it won't stop them from getting up to the occasional mischief.

Inhabited By Stories written by Nancy A. Barta-Smith and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-11-30 with Literary Criticism categories.

Intertextuality has signaled change, appropriation, adaptation, and derivation. It has focused readers on irresolvable questions of influence and origination, progressive or regressive movement across continents, periods, and media. Inhabited by Stories: Critical Essays on Tales Retold takes a different approach. What would a model of literary study look like that steps out of time’s river and embraces not only the presence and proximity of the world to the senses, but also of the past and the future to the present here and now? When stories inhabit us, imagination and memory extend our ability to see and feel. Phenomenological experience is lived, not just thought. Such a perspective suggests that the past and future inhabit the present, increase the depth of sensory perception itself, and enrich the range of our affective and ethical responses. Grounded in the lived experience of reading, this perspective offers an alternative to an idea of intertextuality as simply following lines of influence and appropriation. It focuses on the expansion of experience created by telling and retelling stories. Ironically, for literary theorists and critics, perhaps the highest form of both praise and critique is a tale retold, since such retellings attest to literature’s instructive power and its perennial regeneration.

Exploring a selection of anime adaptations of famous works of both Eastern and Western provenance, this book is concerned with appreciating their significance and appeal as independent texts. The author evaluates three aspects of anime adaptation—how anime adaptations develop their original sources in stylistic, aesthetic, and psychological terms; how specific features of the anime medium impact alchemically on the original sources to bring into being imaginative works of an autonomous nature; and which qualities render an adaptation in anime form a distinctly unique artistic creation.

Two lovers are separated when one is unjustly thrown into prison. He escapes, becomes unimaginably rich, and obtains revenge. It's a true story from the Archives of the Paris Police, and it inspired Alexandre Dumas (1802-1870) to write a French epic. Like England's Charles Dickens, Dumas serialized his novels each day in newspapers. Since he was paid by the word, his novel grew to contain 1,050 pages, 117 chapters, and forty major characters.Lee Smyth's re-telling captures all of the romance and the revenge from the Paris Police Archives. It's not a condensed version of the French novel; it's The Count of Monte Cristo - RE-IMAGINED.
