The Coveted Recipe may be a part of that story, only steeped in the Dark Ages. I am not sure what it is and where it belongs. Is it an adult fairy tale? A sad tragedy of times past? Or a parable of human nature that in changing remains the same, where innocent people are caught in webs of misplaced fears, laws, and regulations? It came to me on a sunny day in Berlin as I sat in an U-Bahn that passed along the broken graffiti-smeared Berlin Wall, thinking how it had locked people inlike the Iron Curtainand how many suffered and died behind those walls that had cut through lives and loves, leaving trails of guilt and sin on all sides. And then I thought about punishments, such as witch hunts and dungeons and prisons and wars. Seeing the devastation through a foggy window, I hoped that the train was speeding into a new and better age . . .

'Leon serves food that is fresh, seasonal, locally sources and really good. The twist is that your food is served really fast. The double twist is how delicious it is.' - Vogue The first Leon restaurant, in London's Carnaby Street, opened its doors in July 2004. For its founders - Henry Dimbleby, John Vincent and Allegra McEvedy - the aim was to change the face of fast food, by bringing fresh, wholesome cooking to the high street. Six months later, Leon was named the Best New Restaurant in Great Britain at the Observer Food Monthly Awards. The menu is based around bold flavours, using simply-cooked fresh, local, natural ingredients with an emphasis on seasonal dishes; it also reflects how our eating habits change as the daylight house get longer and shorter. This is a book of two halves. The Ingredients Book arms you with everything you need to know about the basic building blocks of any recipe. LEON chooses its ingredients above all for their flavour and healthiness but also with a view to the world we live in, so that such shark-infested waters as sustainable fish are tackled and easy to navigate. LEON's top 250 fruits, vegetables, fish, meats, dairy and store cupboard ingredients are all given their own entries. Nutrition, a bit of history, flavour and the best way to get the most out of them are all covered, seasoned with a fair amount of random miscellany. The second half is The Recipe Book, where you can put your newly found knowledge of ingredients to great use with over 140 recipes: some are familiar favourites taken from LEON's menus such as the Original Superfood Salad, Moroccan Meatballs or Magic Mackerel Couscous and, for LEON Lovers everywhere, at last a recipe for the coveted LEON Better Brownie. Plus there are some recipes from the founders, their friends and those who helped make LEON what it is today, like Fred's Millennium Octopus and David Dimbleby's Spanish Omelette. LEON's food message is a simple and honest one - cook and eat with the best ingredients available and don't forget the naughty bits that are so necessary for a fully-rounded life.

Every recipe has a story and every story has a secret. For folks in Tatatonka, Iowa, the best recipes in town, and therefore the best secrets, have long been kept in the coveted recipe book of local cooking legend Trudie Melody. When Trudie becomes ill, her granddaughter, successful (at least by Tatatonka standards) garden gnome maker Margot, decides it's no time to be timid and boldly asks for the recipe book. Thinking she's secured the book for herself, Margot's life goes into a tailspin when, after her grandma's death, a crooked probate lawyer determines the book will go to Sheryl, Margot's shrewd first cousin, who needs the book to bail out her flailing career. Margot's only recourse is to sue Sheryl before she can take possession of the treasured book. The courtroom takes on a voyeuristic and carnival-like atmosphere when the Judge rules to have the recipe book read aloud in order to determine the rightful owner

Preserving Family Recipes written by Valerie J. Frey and has been published by University of Georgia Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-11-01 with Cooking categories.

Heirloom dishes and family food traditions are rich sources of nostalgia and provide vivid ways to learn about our families’ past, yet they can be problematic. Many family recipes and food traditions are never documented in written or photographic form, existing only as unwritten know-how and lore that vanishes when a cook dies. Even when recipes are written down, they often fail to give the tricks and tips that would allow another cook to accurately replicate the dish. Unfortunately, recipes are also often damaged as we plunk Grandma’s handwritten cards on the countertop next to a steaming pot or a spattering mixer, shortening their lives. This book is a guide for gathering, adjusting, supplementing, and safely preserving family recipes and for interviewing relatives, collecting oral histories, and conducting kitchen visits to document family food traditions from the everyday to special occasions. It blends commonsense tips with sound archival principles, helping you achieve effective results while avoiding unnecessary pitfalls. Chapters are also dedicated to unfamiliar regional or ethnic cooking challenges, as well as to working with recipes that are “orphans,” surrogates, or terribly outdated. Whether you simply want to save a few accurate recipes, help yesterday’s foodways evolve so they are relevant for today’s table, or create an extensive family cookbook, this guidebook will help you to savor your memories.
