Essay from the year 2024 in the subject History - Asia, , language: English, abstract: This paper delves into the cultural and geological heritage of Sindh, a province in Pakistan with a history that traces back to the Mohenjo-Daro civilization in 2500 BC. Sindh’s rich cultural tapestry is woven from influences of immigrants from northern India, Gujarat, Punjab, Arab countries, and Baluchistan. The province, with an area of 47,569 square miles, is bordered by Bhawalpur in the north, the Arabian Sea in the south, the Hallar range in the east, and a sandy desert in the west. Geologically, Sindh’s landscape has been shaped by significant epochs, with the Indus River playing a pivotal role long before the Himalayas' formation. This study highlights the importance of Sindh in both national and international heritage protection strategies due to its unique historical and natural resources. The enduring silhouette of Sindh, marked by the ancient Indus River, reflects its significance in the timeline of human civilization.

This is the fourth volume of the Ancient Pakistan - An Archaeological History. It deals with a number of issues of the Indus Civilization, which are primarily of theoretical importance. The main topics that have been discussed are the social and political organization of the Harappan society, the Harappan religion, the Indus script and language, the beginning and the end of this vast civilization, and the recent attempts in creating some myths around the Indus Civilization. Since this volume is primarily dedicated to the theoretical and the abstract, descriptive material is kept to a minimum.

Rivers differ among themselves and through time. An individual river can vary significantly downstream, changing its dimensions and pattern dramatically over a short distance. If hydrology and hydraulics were the primary controls on the morphology and behaviour of large rivers, we would expect long reaches of rivers to maintain characteristic and relatively uniform morphologies. In fact, this is not the case - the variability of large rivers indicates that other important factors are involved. River Variability and Complexity presents an interesting approach to the understanding of river variability. It provides examples of river variability and explains the reasons for them, including fluvial response to human activities. Understanding the mechanisms of variability is important for geomorphologists, geologists, river engineers and sedimentologists as they attempt to interpret ancient fluvial deposits or anticipate river behaviour at different locations and through time. This book provides an excellent background for graduates, researchers and professionals.

The Making Of Exile written by Nandita Bhavnani and has been published by Tranquebar this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014 with History categories.

To date, most books on Partition have ignored or minimised the Sindhi Hindu experience, which was significantly different from the trials of minorities in Punjab or Bengal. The Making of Exile hopes to redress this, by turning a spotlight on the specific narratives of the Sindhi Hindu community.Post-Partition, Sindh was relatively free of the inter-communal violence witnessed in Punjab, Bengal, and other parts of north India. Consequently, in the first few months of Pakistan's early life, Sindhi Hindus did not migrate, and remained the most significant minority in West Pakistan.Starting with the announcement of the Partition of India, The Making of Exile firmly traces the experiences of the community - that went from being a small but powerful minority to becoming the target of communal discrimination, practised by both the state as well as sections of Pakistani society. This climate of communal antipathy threw into sharp relief the help and sympathy extended to Sindhi Hindus by other Pakistani Muslims, both Sindhi and muhajir. Finally, it was when they became victims of the Karachi pogrom of January 1948 that Sindhi Hindus felt compelled to migrate to India. The second segment of the book examines the resettlement of the community in India - their first brush with squalid refugee camps, their struggle to make sense of rapidly changing governmental policies, and the spirit of determination and enterprise with which they rehabilitated themselves in their new homeland.
