Master's Thesis from the year 2013 in the subject Communications - Journalism, Journalism Professions, grade: 1,0, Vrije University Brussel, language: English, abstract: This master thesis approaches the field of virtual currencies in online gaming. It pursues the overall question if it is possible, to establish a universal, virtual currency in the online gaming environment. It aims on showing how virtual currencies in their particular fields work, what the different mechanisms imply and who the stakeholders are. In order to give a comprehensive insight on the topic, framework issues such as clarification of terms in the field of virtual currencies in online gaming will be given. Furthermore, processes, consequences and legal aspects are provided. The core of the thesis contains the analysis of four case studies, covering a representative range of virtual currencies in four different areas of online gaming. The analysis contains a massive multiplayer online role playing game, a gaming application for smart phones, a social network with a gaming section and a virtual marketplace featuring browser games. With the help of a business modeling matrix and a platform typology the cases are analysed on parameters such as e.g. functional and financial architecture. The results, put together in a comparative overview, help to point out particular potentials, chances and risks of virtual currencies in online gaming.

The Rules of the Game brings together essays written over the course of thirty years by a major figure in the field. McKinnon analyzes and compares a wide variety of important international monetary regimes: the establishment of the gold standard in the nineteenth century, Bretton Woods, the dollar standard, floating exchange rates, the European Monetary System, and current proposals for reforming world monetary arrangements. The essays are unique in that they specify precisely the rules of the game for each international monetary regime - past, present, and future. For ease of reference, the book offers boxed summaries of each set of rules and then discusses their advantages and disadvantages, from the gold standard down to the author's proposal for a common monetary standard for the twenty-first century.

Private currencies have always existed, from notes printed by individual banks to the S&H Green Stamps that consumers once redeemed for household items. Today’s economy has seen an explosion of new forms of monetary exchange not created by the federal government. Credit card companies offer points that can be traded in for a variety of goods and services, from airline miles to online store credit. Online game creators have devised new mediums of electronic exchange that turn virtual money into real money. Meanwhile, real money is increasingly going digital, where it competes with private currencies like Bitcoin. The virtual and the real economic worlds are intermingling more than ever before, raising the possibility that this new money might eventually replace the government-run system of dollars, euros, and yen. Edward Castronova is the leading researcher in this field, a founder of scholarly online game studies and an expert on the economies of virtual worlds. In this dynamic and essential work, he explores the current phenomenon of virtual currencies and what it will mean legally, politically, and economically in the future. In doing so, he provides a fascinating, often surprising discourse on the meaning of money itself—what it is, what we think it is, and how we relate to it on an emotional level.

Virtually everybody in the world wants to be a millionaire. But not everybody knows what it takes to be a millionaire.Certainly, becoming a millionaire is not an easy task. It is, in fact, an uphill task. If not, everybody would have become a millionaire. But it is a task that can be done. So, what does it take to be a millionaire? Like every other attainment in life, it takes a number of factors or traits to become a millionaire.Seriously speaking, becoming a millionaire is a game of numbers. A millionaire is simply a person who has accumulated a monetary net worth of up to seven digits of any country's currency, such as N1,000,000 or $1,000,000 or 1,000,000 or e1,000,000. What this means is that the moment a person has acquired or accumulated the first one million of the country's currency, that person is qualified to be called a millionaire. Ideally, any fool can become a millionaire. But that is the ideal situation. The real fact of life is that about 90% of the world's population, from the ages past to the present, have not been able to achieve this feat, as simple as it seems. The sole reason why many people have not achieved the feat of becoming millionaires is because they have not taken the first step. Becoming a millionaire is not as lofty, difficult and scary as that. All that you have to do is to reduce or belittle the mountain and climb it from the bottom up. Life is a game of numbers; and becoming a millionaire is just a game of numbers. But it is a game that you must be willing to play. Nobody wins a game that he is not involved in, no matter how much interest he has in the game. The only way to become a millionaire is to get involved in playing the millionaire's game. It is the game of making money; it is the game of saving money; it is the game of investing money; it is the game of making your money to work for you; and above all, it is the game of numbers, which showcases the miracle of compound interest. Money is the oil that lubricates the world (the human society) in which man operates. If you lack the knowledge of money, the oil (or fluid) that enables the resources to flow freely, you will most likely have great difficulties in getting things organized to achieve your desired goals or to realize your desired dreams. Therefore, with all your getting, get understanding or the knowledge of money in order to make things work for you.But we have a faulty education system in which nobody taught or teaches us about money. Yet, understanding money - what it is, how it works, how to make it work for you, how to earn it, and how to keep it - is absolutely essential to your life, your relationships, your world, your happiness and your future. To exclude the knowledge of money from your education is to exclude you from the best that life has to offer. Above all, learning how to become financially successful is one of the most critical skills that you must seek to acquire.Money skill is not taught at school or at any other designated institution in the world. Hence, everyone must bear his own burden here. It therefore behooves a man of wisdom to seek out such books on money (including this one), and seek out a quiet place, to read, learn and acquire the knowledge of money in order to perform optimally in life. The goal of this book is to give you some financial education and to get you to change your attitude towards money and how to save and invest it. If I can get you to form the habit of saving and investing at least one dollar a day, I would have achieved my aim for writing this book, and I would be fulfilled as having imparted you and your future generations.

Money The New Rules Of The Game written by Christian Felber and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-10-25 with Business & Economics categories.

This book advocates a holistic reform of the current monetary and financial system dealing with the issues of money creation, central banks, loans, stock markets, tax justice, pension security and the international monetary system - “Bretton Woods II”. Its innovative approach presents several alternatives for each cornerstone, in addition to introducing a participatory democratic process whereby sovereign citizens can themselves determine the rules governing the new financial and monetary system. With “democratic money conventions” in each municipality, where the elements of this new money system are discussed and decided on in a participatory manner, and a federal money covenant which then elaborates a template for a referendum about the future “money constitution”, a true “sovereign” could progressively convert money from a financial weapon into a democratic tool. The envisaged democratic monetary system, by providing equal opportunities for every member of society to participate in the development of the “new rules of the game”, turns money progressively into a public good which increases the freedom for all. The new system furthermore drives the enhancement of constitutional and relational values such as human dignity, solidarity, justice, sustainability, or democracy. Money should serve life and should serve the common good. The “Bank for the Common Good” Project, which was initiated in Austria by the author Christian Felber, represents a practical example of his proposals.

The Money Field explores the game of money as is played by everyone who handles money. The Money field is like a sportsfield upon which the game of money is played. Within its four basic quadrants are players, each with their own agenda and strategies. This book introduces you to the field, the players, the rules, and the strategies that you may apply in order to win your game. By being clear about your own agenda, you can implement strategies that will help you reach your money goals. The Money Game is the only compulsory game on our planet. Everyone who handles money is an automatic player, and yet so many play without even knowing that they are on a field of play; and thus they almost always lose the game. This book is a series of three books in one. Book One covers the money field and its structure, rules, and players. Book Two covers your ability to "Live in the Gap" by playing by the well defined practical strategies discussed. Book Three covers your engagement with "Other People's Money," or Debt. You are introduced to Debt Instruments and are guided on how to best apply these to your advantage.
