Military drones and space drones had evolved to become the new air force and space force. Highly advanced drones had taken over the skies and outer space, not only to fight wars, but they were also used for tasks such as security and traffic control over non-warring territories. Smart drones, equipped and embedded with the latest in artificial intelligence and battery technologies, were accorded prime importance in commercial, military, medical, and civilian applications. For military and drone buffs, including artificial intelligence savants, the year was 138 AOD, or Year 138 in the Age of Drones. It was 138 years after two historical milestones had altered the world, encompassing both the developed and the developing countries. The first historical milestone had been the worldwide propagation of DAPI, or Drone Application Programming Interface, which enabled both humans and drones to reliably communicate and seamlessly interact between them. DAPI was widely accepted and eventually became the global standard because of its open source DRONAL programming language, or short for: Direct Resonance Optical Neural Artificial Language. Another historical milestone had been the enactment and passage into law of The Drones Act by the United States Congress more than a century ago. The Drones Act was considered a landmark piece of legislation allowing drones embedded with cutting-edge machine learning and state-of-the-art artificial intelligence to engage in commercial activities, including leasing land and real properties, among others. A consortium composed of the private sector and the military establishment had put up several drone ports throughout the country decades ago. Each drone port had a research facility as an adjunct. The Drones Act likewise included the issuance of a separate digital currency for sentient drones called the Drone Crypto Coin.

The Continental soldiers have developed sophisticated detection devices and anti-drone weaponry, which have enabled them to detect and neutralize the cyborgs' drones effectively. The Dreads, being a highly skilled and experienced sub-faction within the Continental Army, have played a significant role in developing and implementing these anti-drone measures. Despite the cyborgs' technological superiority, the Continental Army, including The Dreads, has managed to hold its ground and even gain some strategic advantages in the jungle warfare. The soldiers have become experts at jungle combat tactics, using the dense vegetation to their advantage and launching surprise attacks on the cyborgs. However, the war has taken a heavy toll on all sides, with casualties mounting and resources dwindling. Both the cyborgs and the Continental Army, including The Dreads, remain fiercely determined to emerge victorious and achieve their respective goals, whatever the cost.
