Ocean Shores was the newest city in Washington for nearly 40 years, but for centuries before it had been a place of permanent occupation and food gathering for Native American tribes and a place for sea otter hunters, pioneers, and settlers to reach the interior of the Olympic Peninsula. Before Ocean Shores, there was the dream of a town called Cedarville followed by the reality of Lone Tree with its post office and 200 residents. Point Brown Peninsula was a village of survival for Polynesian Kanakas, Finns living on the edge of society, migrant workers called Bluebills, and a Hooverville for Depression-era families. After World War II, when developers first conceived of creating a Venice of the West, many said their dream would never last. However, in 1970, Ocean Shores became a city and today has entered its 50th year of development.

The Port Of Missing Men written by Aaron Goings and has been published by University of Washington Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-07-26 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

In the early twentieth century so many dead bodies surfaced in the rivers around Aberdeen, Washington, that they were nicknamed the “floater fleet.” When Billy Gohl (1873–1927), a powerful union official, was arrested for murder, local newspapers were quick to suggest that he was responsible for many of those deaths, perhaps even dozens—thus launching the legend of the Ghoul of Grays Harbor. More than a true-crime tale, The Port of Missing Men sheds light on the lives of workers who died tragically, illuminating the dehumanizing treatment of sailors and lumber workers and the heated clashes between pro- and anti-union forces. Goings investigates the creation of the myth, exploring how so many people were willing to believe such extraordinary stories about Gohl. He shares the story of a charismatic labor leader—the one man who could shut down the highly profitable Grays Harbor lumber trade—and provides an equally intriguing analysis of the human costs of the Pacific Northwest’s early extraction economy.

Kurt Cobain written by Brett Morgen and has been published by Simon and Schuster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-05-05 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

The companion book to the HBO film about the Nirvana singer and songwriter, “the most intimate rock doc ever” (Rolling Stone). Kurt Cobain, legendary lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter of Nirvana, “the flagship band of Generation X,” remains an object of reverence and fascination for music fans. For the first time, his story was told in the fully authorized feature documentary, Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, in 2015. Brett Morgen—the Oscar®-nominated filmmaker behind such acclaimed documentaries as the HBO presentation Crossfire Hurricane, which celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the Rolling Stones, and The Kid Stays in the Picture—was writer, director, and producer of film. Visual artist Frances Bean Cobain, Cobain’s daughter, was executive producer. This riveting book accompanied Morgen’s documentary and delved further into the material created for the film, presenting an illuminating and honest portrait of the Nirvana frontman that captured the contradictions that made up his character. The book is composed of the extended versions of the exclusive interviews featured in the film. It also showcases the film’s incredible visuals with a mixture of animation stills, rare photography, and other treasures from Kurt Cobain’s personal archive. Director Brett Morgen offers his personal thoughts on the creation of the film and the need to shatter the mythos that surrounds Cobain. Taking fans into and beyond Morgen’s movie with unparalleled insight into the world of the late musician, this book is the perfect complement to a milestone documentary that forever changed the way fans view Kurt Cobain. “The film offers the bells and whistles but the book provides the real guts of the tale.” —Examiner
