This fascinating account of a Yale-trained psychiatrist's twenty-year experience with Native American healing interweaves autobiography with stories of the Native Americans who challenged his medical school assumptions about their methods. While working as a family physicans in a Native American hospital in the Southwest, Carl Hammerschlag was introduced to a patient named Santiago, a Pueblo priest and clan chief, who asked him where he had learned how to heal. Hammerschlag responded almost by rote, rattling off his medical education, intership, and certification. The old man replied,"Do you know how to dance?" To humor Santiago, Hammerschlag shuffled his feet at the priest's bedside. Despite his condition, Santiago got up and demonstrated the proper steps. "You must be able to dance if you are to heal people,"he admonished the young doctor."I can teach you my steps, but you will have to hear your own music." Hammerschlag synthesizes his Jewish heritage with his experience with Native Americans to produce a practice open to all methods of healing. He discovers the wisdom of the Pueblo priest's question to his Western doctor, "Do you know how to dance?"

"Come, sit by me," says Grandmother. "Take this chalk in your hand. Now draw a dot and concentrate all your energy into this one dot. It is the beginning and the end, the navel of the world." So Fawzia Al-Rawi describes her grandmother's first lesson about the ancient craft of Oriental dance. Grandmother's Secretsalways circles back to this grandmother and this young girl, echoing the circular movements of the dance itself. Al-Rawi has written a strikingly graceful and original book that blends personal memoir with the history and theory of the dance known in the West as "belly dancing." It is the story of a young Arab girl as she is initiated into womanhood. It is a history of the dance from the earliest times through the days of the Pharaohs, the Roman Empire, to the Arab world of the last three centuries. It is a personal investigation into the effects of the dance's movements on individual parts of the body and the whole psyche. It is a guide to the actual techniques of the dance for those who are inspired to put down the book and move. Al-Rawi conveys in this book not only the history and technique of grieving and mourning dances, pregnancy and birth dances, but the spirit of these age-old rituals, and their possibilities for healing and empowering women today.

Dancing With The Devil written by David Ashworth and has been published by Crucible Publishers (UK) this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-01 with categories.

This is an astonishing and timely book which works on many levels: it is a book about healing; about psychic attack and how to resist it; about Reiki; about the chakras and subtle bodies; and about the responsibilities of all who work with energy. Pervading and unifying these strands is the author's personal awareness of the living, subtle energies which surround and pervade each and every being. In his work in healing, geopathic stress investigation, soul rescue, Reiki and energy system repair and balancing, David Ashworth interacts daily with energies of which most of us have no conception. He has come to understand that light energy continually and inevitably attracts dark forces and that one has literally to engage in battle to re-direct, and in some cases, dismantle these forces, placing them out of harm's way. The book includes astounding cases of possession by a variety of entities and beings which the author has, by aligning with the forces of light, resolved with courage and determination. David also discusses the responsibilities and needs of those who seek to raise their rate of vibration by Reiki attunement, and gives a strong warning to all who treat the subject lightly or irreverently. Well known from the television series Housebusters, and from workshops and lectures, David writes here not only for healers and therapists but for all seeking to understand the reality which lies within and beyond our physical world.
