Themes: Hi-Lo, Good vs. evil, comic format, graphic novel. The first six titles in the Dark Man series are 36-page books designed for young adult struggling readers and even nonreaders who probably have never successfully managed to read a book. The second six titles are 48-page books with a slight degree of progression over the first six and offering a more challenging read. Our six newest 48-page titles (Yellow Series) continue the Dark Man's quest to destroy the evil Shadow Masters. The story text is short and simple but not patronizing. Stories are gritty, full of tension and mystery. The language is terse. The Dark Man is a serious comic Hero with his own methodology. Each book is a self-contained story, but each story is a part of a greater whole. Although each novel reveals a little more about Dark Man, the twelve books can be read in any order: no one story depends on having read another first. The first six stories (Orange) range from 220-420 words. The Green and Yellow Series are 1000 words each. The Dark Man must find the Dark Glass, which will help him see the Golden Cup. In the high tower of an office building, he sees a flat stone. This is the glass he seeks.

An assassin from the dark districts, a target in a perfect society. And secrets that could kill them both. Killer-for-hire Rodin prides himself on his control. He trains hard. He keeps nobody close, has nothing anyone can use against him. He’s built his reputation, can pick and choose contracts. Until now. When others want to kill him, he’s forced to take a contract on a distinguished Councillor in the Dome, that idyllic, supposedly secure society beneath the glass. It’s a place where violence is unknown, where manners are everything. A place that will never accept Rodin. So he must go undercover, be everything he isn’t. He must get close to the target without arousing suspicions. But the target is protected. As enemies close in, pressure builds, and Rodin’s control starts to slip. And if Rodin doesn’t remove his target, he’s a dead man. Dark Glass is the start of Dominions, a series of dark Dystopian thrillers that are violent, intelligent and unexpected.

A revisionist history of John Wesley Hardin, a Texas gunman who in his lifetime killed more than 40 men. It is told from three points of view, one of them being his black wet nurse. Hardin is presented as a hero fighting to preserve Southern values following the defeat in the Civil War. It is a departure from the usual historical accounts, which portray Hardin as a cold-blooded killer. By the author of Sweet Cane.

"A beautifully constructed, beautifully modulated and balanced story. To say that this is a haunting book seems a clich , but it is true." - Pamela Hansford Johnson " T]he writing is taut and precise, generating a sustained emotional tension . . . . a book of distinctive quality." - The Guardian "Characters and situations are delineated with fine simplicity and economy, but also with telling vividness. Francis King commands a noteworthy talent; he is one of a number of contemporary British novelists who deserve the best attention here." N.Y. Herald Tribune Book Review After ten years of marriage, Patrick and Iris Orde have become complacent and passionless in their relationship and in their lives. When they inherit Iris's father's estate in Corfu, the change of scenery and the warmth of the Mediterranean sun seem to be just what they need. Patrick is able to devote himself to his hobbies, while Iris, a doctor, opens a clinic to treat the impoverished peasants. But a meeting with a former lover reawakens old memories for Iris, while Patrick finds himself drawn to Soula, a village girl whose brother Stavro has a strange fondness for Patrick, and a sequence of terrible events is set in motion that will lead to tragedy. . . . Francis King (1923-2011) ranked The Dark Glasses (1954), the fifth of his more than forty volumes of fiction, as one of his favourites among his own works and believed it was one of his most underrated. This first-ever republication of the novel features a new introduction by Jonathan Fryer and the original jacket art.

On her seventeenth birthday, Megan of Chaumont discovers she’ll be sold as a bride to the brutish Volodane family—within hours. Her father grants only that she may choose which one of the ruthless, grasping lord's three sons she weds: ~ Rolf, the eldest: stern, ambitious, and loyal? ~ Sebastian, the second son: sympathetic, sly, and rebellious? ~ Or Kai, the youngest: bitter, brooding, and proud? As shy, horrified Megan flees the welcome dinner for her in-laws-to-be, she finds an enchanted mirror that will display how her life unrolls with each man, as if she were living it out in a breath. But there is no smooth “happily ever after” in her choices. Deaths and honors, joys and agonies, intrigues and escapes await her in a remote, ramshackle keep, where these rough but complex men reveal one side and then another of their jagged characters—and bring forth new aspects of Megan, too. But the decisions of one teenaged marriage-pawn reverberate much farther than any of them have guessed . . . THROUGH A DARK GLASS New York Times bestselling author Barb Hendee spins a tale of castles and assassins, ambition and envy, toil and desire, as one woman lives out three very different lives . . .

Over the centuries, European debate about the nature and status of images of God and sacred figures has often upset the established order and shaken societies to their core. Out of this debate, an identifiable doctrine has emerged of the image in general and of the divine image in particular. This fascinating work concentrates on these historical arguments, from the period of Late Antiquity up to the great and classic defenses of images by St. John of Damascus and Theodore of Studion. Icon extends beyond the immediate concerns of religion, philosophy, aesthetics, history, and art, to engage them all.
