In The Death of the Actor Martin Buzacott launches an all-out attack on contemporary theatrical practice and performance theory which identifies the actor, rather than the director, as the key creative force in the performance of Shakespeare. Because actors are absent from the site of Shakespearean meaning, he argues, the illusion of their centrality is sustained only by a rhetoric of heroism, violence and imperialism.

A HOLLYWOOD TRAGEDY REVEALED AFTER 60 YEARS!!! Robert Morris should have been a star. He was producer Bert Leonard's original choice to ride alongside George Maharis in Route 66; however, as the concept for the series evolved, Morris was out and Martin Milner was in. As Maharis and Milner prepared to drive into the annals of television history, Robert Morris relocated from New York to California to boost his career. What initially appeared to be a good move ended in tragedy. Less than a year after moving out west, Robert Morris died under peculiar circumstances at a "health ranch" in southern California at the age of 25. For the first time ever, the story of Robert Morris is finally being told: From his humble beginnings as Bobby Morawczynski, growing up in Reading, Pennsylvania; to his days at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City; his summer internship at the American Shakespeare Festival Theatre in Stratford, Connecticut, in 1956; his television work in New York, most notably on episodes of Deadline and The Naked City, where he co-starred with George Maharis in a "backdoor pilot" for Route 66; to his final days in California where he met his untimely death. In his brief lifetime, Robert Morris worked alongside many people who would go on to fame and fortune, beginning with Lenny Moore, the Pro Football Hall of Famer whose career took shape on the field at Reading High School; Morris was the left halfback to Lenny Moore's right halfback. As a competitive bodybuilder, he shared the stage with Mickey Hargitay (Mr. Universe 1955), Yas Kuzuhara (Mr. USA 1954) and Harry Johnson (Mr. America 1959). At the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, he took classes and hung out with the likes of Eileen Brennan, George Coe, Richard Stahl, Hoke Howell and Clint Kimbrough. At the American Shakespeare Festival Theatre, he worked with notable veterans like John Houseman, Norman Lloyd, John Emery, Stanley Bell, and Morris Carnovsky, up-and-comers like Nina Foch, Pernell Roberts, Fritz Weaver and Jonathan Frid, and future entertainment luminaries like Peter Bogdanovich, Michael Lindsay-Hogg and Jerry Stiller. His television work saw him share the screen with Steve McQueen, William Shatner, Ralph Bellamy, George Maharis, Paul Stewart, Vic Morrow, Michael Ansara, Rory Calhoun and Walter Matthau, working under directors like Robert Mulligan (To Kill A Mockingbird) and Stuart Rosenberg (Cool Hand Luke). Promise Unfulfilled: The Brief Life and Bizarre Death of Actor Robert Morris is the portrait of a man who put his best foot forward to attain the American Dream -- only to have tragedy intervene. Read the story as told by those who knew him -- his friends, family and colleagues, including George Maharis, Michael Lindsay-Hogg, Tony Franke, Barbara Lord Warburton, Pamela Saunders, Susan Quick, Harvey Grossman and Robert Heide.

A powerful, behind-the-scenes look at some of America's all-time favorite television programs during their darkest hours, this study examines how various hit series have absorbed the death of a lead actor during production. Although each television program eventually resumed production, the lead actor's death in each case had a profound impact on the surviving cast and crew and the future of the show itself. Individual chapters explore the events surrounding the deaths of Freddie Prinze (Chico and the Man), John Ritter (8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter), Redd Foxx (The Royal Family), Nicholas Colasanto (Cheers), Phil Hartman (NewsRadio), and many others. Their stories are told through first-hand accounts by those who knew them best, including many of the most talented actors, producers, writers, and directors in television over the past forty years.

Young, cocksure, handsome and absurdly talented, Australian actor Heath Ledger shot to prominence with his first Hollywood film "10 Things I Hate About You": and a star was born. With huge charisma and smouldering looks lighting up the screen in a series of subsequent films, Heath was soon established as Hollywood A-list, dating a series of beauties such as Heather Graham and Naomi Watts, and living every young man's dream. But it was his award-winning and controversial role as Ennis Del Mar in "Brokeback Mountain" that cemented his place in the pantheon of acting greats - he was one of the youngest people ever to be nominated for an Oscar. And it was on the set of this film that he fell in love with his co-star Michelle Williams. Though the relationship wasn't to last, the couple had a daughter in 2005.With the world at his feet and a film-stealing turn in the new Batman movie, "The Dark Knight", in the can, there was worldwide shock and disbelief when the news broke that he had been found dead in his New York apartment on 22 January 2008. Prescription drugs, found next to his dead body, were thought to be the cause, but mystery surrounded the circumstances. Was it an accidental death? Or were the pressures of life in the spotlight too great to bear? What is certain is that this young man, who touched the lives of so many people, leaves behind a grief-stricken public and family, including a two-year-old daughter. This is the tragic story of the brilliant actor whose light shone so brightly but all too briefly upon the world.

Wallace Reid written by E.J. Fleming and has been published by McFarland this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-08 with Performing Arts categories.

For a decade Wallace Reid was the most recognized face in Hollywood, the most universally beloved actor in silent film. Today all that is widely remembered of "Wally" Reid is that he died in a padded sanitarium cell, the victim of a fatal morphine addiction. Of all the actors who have enjoyed great fame only to vanish from the public eye, Reid perhaps fell the fastest and the hardest. This first full biography recounts Reid's complicated childhood, his disrupted family history and his rise to film stardom despite these restricting factors. It documents his myriad talents and accomplishments, most notably his gift for brilliant onscreen acting. The text explores in depth how the modern studio, however unconsciously, turned the popular star, a well-adjusted man with a loving family, into a drug-dependent mental patient within three years. His death rocked the foundations of Hollywood, and the huge new industry that he helped build nearly died with "Dashing Wally Reid."
