This book traces some of these changes, in particular related to living situation and support available, in a range of different countries and considers the factors that have influenced these changes. This book considers other aspects of what is needed to bring about real change in the lives of all people with disabilities.

An Open Access edition of this book is available on the Liverpool University Press website and the OAPEN library. Intellectual Disability and Ireland, 1947–1996 explores the varied experiences of the intellectually disabled during the latter half of the mid-twentieth century in Ireland. Addressing the evolution of disability policies and provision, it shows how a range of different actors became engaged in shaping the disability services landscape during this period. Drawing on a variety of sources, from government memoranda to RTÉ television programmes, David Kilgannon traces the development of disability services on paper and in reality. This narrative is marked by instances of both striking transformation and significant continuity, as the emergence of new policy thinking occurred in tandem with the consolidation of established approaches. The book describes not only how services changed but why, offering a unique perspective on the evolution of Irish social policy in the post-war years.

Grading Goal Four written by Antonia Wulff and has been published by Brill this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020 with Education categories.

"For the third time in three decades world leaders reaffirmed their promise of "Education For All" when adopting Sustainable Development Goal 4 in 2015. It is the most far-reaching commitment to quality and equity in education so far, yet, there is no consensus on what the agenda means in practice. With a decade left until the 2030 deadline, Grading Goal Four calls upon the education community to engage more thoughtfully and critically with SDG 4 and related efforts. As an ever-growing number of actors and initiatives claim to contribute to its achievement, it is becoming clear that the ambitious but broad priorities within the goal are vulnerable to cherry-picking and misrepresentation, placing it at the heart of tensions between instrumentalist and rights-based approaches to education. This text, a critical analysis of SDG 4, provides a framework for examining trends and developments in education globally. As the first volume that examines early implementation efforts under SDG 4, Grading Goal Four formulates a critique along with strategies for moving forward. By scrutinising the challenges, tensions and power dynamics shaping SDG 4, it advances rights-based perspectives and strategies for effective implementation and builds capacity for strengthened monitoring and analysis of the goal"--

Active Citizenship And Disability written by Andrew Power and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-01-14 with Law categories.

This book provides an international comparative study of the implementation of disability rights law and policy focused on the emerging principles of self-determination and personalisation. It explores how these principles have been enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and how different jurisdictions have implemented them to enable meaningful engagement and participation by persons with disabilities in society. The philosophy of 'active citizenship' underpinning the Convention - that all citizens should (be able to) actively participate in the community - provides the core focal point of this book, which grounds its analysis in exploring how this goal has been imagined and implemented across a range of countries. The case studies examine how different jurisdictions have reformed disability law and policy and reconfigured how support is administered and funded to ensure maximum choice and independence is accorded to people with disabilities.
