The number field sieve is an algorithm for finding the prime factors of large integers. It depends on algebraic number theory. Proposed by John Pollard in 1988, the method was used in 1990 to factor the ninth Fermat number, a 155-digit integer. The algorithm is most suited to numbers of a special form, but there is a promising variant that applies in general. This volume contains six research papers that describe the operation of the number field sieve, from both theoretical and practical perspectives. Pollard's original manuscript is included. In addition, there is an annotated bibliography of directly related literature.

Proceedings of an International Conference held in Vancouver, B.C., August 1993, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the journal Mathematics of Computation. It consisted of a Symposium on Numerical Analysis and a Minisymposium of Computational Number Theory. This proceedings contains 14 invited papers, including two not presented at the conference--an historical essay on integer factorization, and a paper on componentwise perturbation bounds in linear algebra. The invited papers present surveys on the various subdisciplines covered by Mathematics of Computation, in a historical perspective and in a language accessible to a wide audience. The 46 contributed papers address contemporary specialized work. Annotation copyright by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

Encyclopedia Of Cryptography Security And Privacy written by Sushil Jajodia and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-01-10 with Computers categories.

A rich stream of papers and many good books have been written on cryptography, security, and privacy, but most of them assume a scholarly reader who has the time to start at the beginning and work his way through the entire text. The goal of Encyclopedia of Cryptography, Security, and Privacy, Third Edition is to make important notions of cryptography, security, and privacy accessible to readers who have an interest in a particular concept related to these areas, but who lack the time to study one of the many books in these areas. The third edition is intended as a replacement of Encyclopedia of Cryptography and Security, Second Edition that was edited by Henk van Tilborg and Sushil Jajodia and published by Springer in 2011. The goal of the third edition is to enhance on the earlier edition in several important and interesting ways. First, entries in the second edition have been updated when needed to keep pace with the advancement of state of the art. Second, as noticeable already from the title of the encyclopedia, coverage has been expanded with special emphasis to the area of privacy. Third, considering the fast pace at which information and communication technology is evolving and has evolved drastically since the last edition, entries have been expanded to provide comprehensive view and include coverage of several newer topics.

Secret History written by Craig Bauer and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-04-20 with Computers categories.

The first edition of this award-winning book attracted a wide audience. This second edition is both a joy to read and a useful classroom tool. Unlike traditional textbooks, it requires no mathematical prerequisites and can be read around the mathematics presented. If used as a textbook, the mathematics can be prioritized, with a book both students and instructors will enjoy reading. Secret History: The Story of Cryptology, Second Edition incorporates new material concerning various eras in the long history of cryptology. Much has happened concerning the political aspects of cryptology since the first edition appeared. The still unfolding story is updated here. The first edition of this book contained chapters devoted to the cracking of German and Japanese systems during World War II. Now the other side of this cipher war is also told, that is, how the United States was able to come up with systems that were never broken. The text is in two parts. Part I presents classic cryptology from ancient times through World War II. Part II examines modern computer cryptology. With numerous real-world examples and extensive references, the author skillfully balances the history with mathematical details, providing readers with a sound foundation in this dynamic field. FEATURES Presents a chronological development of key concepts Includes the Vigenère cipher, the one-time pad, transposition ciphers, Jefferson’s wheel cipher, Playfair cipher, ADFGX, matrix encryption, Enigma, Purple, and other classic methods Looks at the work of Claude Shannon, the origin of the National Security Agency, elliptic curve cryptography, the Data Encryption Standard, the Advanced Encryption Standard, public-key cryptography, and many other topics New chapters detail SIGABA and SIGSALY, successful systems used during World War II for text and speech, respectively Includes quantum cryptography and the impact of quantum computers
