Dr. Dara Law hates animal abuse. She would like to send abusers to the hell which they so richly deserve. But it isn't that simple. New to her position as a university professor of veterinary medicine, Dara discovers a dying dog in the road, a dog with the unmistakable injuries of professional dog fighting. Dara begins a quiet investigation only to discover that the university bureaucracy has slotted her into a comfortable, cause-no-trouble niche. To Dara's horror, she realizes that organized dog fighting is taking place nearby. As she goes forward with her investigation, she is threatened from all sides. "This is no place," she is told, "for a girl." Despite the threats, Dara recruits a rag-tag team of investigators. A handsome young cop, who is not entirely over a former relationship, is far out of his jurisdiction. Bullied by his brothers, a shy veterinary student has something to prove and the student's effervescent girlfriend must look before she leaps. Finally, there is Dara's veterinary technician who fled Communist Cuba only to be haunted - and hunted - by the Castro regime. When Dara is called to assist with a case of animal hoarding, she meets her match in a popular televangelist with the thundering voice of Moses, Hollywood celebrities with more money than good sense, and institutions - from the police to the news media - who desperately want to sweep everything under the rug. Risking her livelihood and her life, Dara dives deep into the culture of dog fighting where she must now fight for her own life.

Animals In The City written by Laura A. Reese and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-11-15 with Science categories.

This book presents interdisciplinary research to examine the ongoing debates around nonhuman animals in urban spaces. It explores how we can better appreciate and accommodate animals in the city, while also exploring the ecological, health, ethical, and cultural implications of the same. The book addresses seven interrelated themes such as blurred boundaries between the human and the nonhuman, the right of nonhuman species to the city, interactions between the human and nonhuman animals, the fabric of urban space, human and nonhuman complex systems, and collective welfare that forms the basis of a transspecies urban theory. It explains how a holistic understanding of the city requires that these blurred boundaries are acknowledged and critically examined. Chapters analytically consider the need to bring interspecies relationships to the fore to tackle questions of legitimacy and who has the "right" to the city. These also consider important intersections between the economic, political, social, and cultural aspects of the urban experience. The research contained in this book focuses on the development of an urban theory that would eradicate the divide between humans and other species in cities, and it depicts nonhuman animals as social actors that have voices within urban spaces. With global insights on human–animal relationships in a contemporary context, this book will be useful reading for scholars and students of urban studies, animal sciences, animal law, animals and public policy, anthropology, and environmental studies who are interested in the study of animals in cities.

In the year 2536, The Unified Consortium Alliance is in a devastating war against a mysterious enemy known as the Prax Order. And they are in desperate need of help. Seeking out assistance in unclaimed space, they come in contact with the E-S'hanti Tribes. The older members of the Alliance knew who the E-S'hanti are and encouraged the other members to consider their offer of help, even though the E-S’hanti are as mysterious as their enemy. All the E-S'hanti wanted from the Alliance was for them to come to their territory on a space vessel designed by the E-S'hanti to go by the name of Oracle and two specific people were to be onboard: Captain Steven Garrison and Commander Cameron Quinn. Steven, Cameron and the crew of the Oracle will venture out into the unclaimed space to meet with the E-S'hanti while traversing through new personal relationships, the danger of their enemy chasing them, an enemy agent onboard to cause trouble and the legend that connects the two people specifically chosen for this ship. This is the story of their first mission.
