The contemporary literature on self-deception was born out of Jean-Paul Sartre’s work on bad faith—lying to oneself. As time has progressed, the conception of self-deception has moved further and further away from Sartre’s conception of bad faith. In Self-Deception’s Puzzles and Processes: A Return to a Sartrean View, Jason Kido Lopez argues that this departure is a mistake and that we should return to thinking about self-deception in a Sartrean fashion, in which we are self-deceived when we intentionally use the strategies and methods of interpersonal deception on ourselves. Since literally tricking ourselves cannot work—we will always see through our own self-deception, after all—self-deception merely consists of the attempt to trick ourselves in this way. Other scholars have rejected this notion of self-deception historically, dismissing it as paradoxical. Lopez argues first that it isn’t paradoxical, and he further suggests that moving away from this notion of self-deception has caused the contemporary literature on the topic to be littered with disparate and conflicting theories. Indeed, there are a great many ways to avoid the allegedly paradoxical Sartrean notion of self-deception, and the resulting plethora of accounts lead to a fragmented picture of self-deception. If, however, the Sartrean view isn’t paradoxical, then there was no need for the host of contradictory theories and most researchers on self-deception have missed what was originally so intriguing about self-deception: that it, like bad faith, is the process of literally trying to trick oneself into believing what is false or unwarranted. Self-Deception’s Puzzles and Processes will be of great interest to students and scholars of epistemology, philosophy of mind, psychology, and continental philosophy, and to anyone else interested in the problems of self-deception.

What is Existentialism? It is perhaps the most misunderstood of modern philosophic positions—misunderstood by reason of its broad popularity and general unfamiliarity with its origins, representatives, and principles. Existential thinking does not originate with Jean Paul Sartre. It has prior religious, literary, and philosophic origins. In its narrowest formulation it is a metaphysical doctrine, arguing as it does that any definition of man’s essence must follow, not precede, an estimation of his existence. In Heidegger, it affords a view of Being in its totality; in Kierkegaard an approach to that inwardness indispensable to authentic religious experience; for Dostoevsky, Kafka, and Rilke the existential situation bears the stamp of modern man’s alienation, uprootedness, and absurdity; to Sartre it has vast ethical and political implications. Walter Kaufmann, author of Nietzsche, is eminently qualified to present and interpret the insights of existentialism as they occur and are deepened by the major thinkers who express them. In every case complete selections or entire works have been employed: The Wall, Existentialism, and the complete chapter on “Self-Deception” from L’être et le Néant by Sartre; two lectures from Jaspers’ book Reason and Existenz; original translations of On My Philosophy by Jaspers and The Way Back into the Ground of Metaphysics by Heidegger. There is, as well, material from Dostoevsky, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Rilke, and Camus.

“A rich exploration of sci-fi universes we know and love, merged flawlessly with discussions on leadership, national security . . . diplomacy, and more.” —Diplomatic Courier As a literature of ideas, science fiction has proven to be a powerful metaphor for the world around us, offering a rich tapestry of imagination through which to explore how we lead, how we think, and how we interact. To Boldly Go assembles more than thirty writers from around the world—experts in leadership and strategy, senior policy advisors and analysts, professional educators and innovators, experienced storytellers, and ground-level military leaders—to help us better understand ourselves through the lens of science fiction Each chapter of To Boldly Go draws out the lessons that we can learn from science fiction, drawing on classic examples of the genre in ways that are equally relatable and entertaining. A chapter on the burdens of leadership by Ghost Fleet author August Cole launches readers into the cosmos with Captain Avatar aboard the space battleship Yamato. In another chapter, the climactic Battle of the Mutara Nebula from The Wrath of Khan weighs the advantages of experience over intelligence in the pursuit of strategy. What does inter-species conflict in science fiction tell us about our perspectives on social Darwinism? Whether using Star Trek: Deep Space Nine to explore the nuances of maritime strategy or The Expanse to better understand the threat posed by depleted natural resources, To Boldly Go provides thoughtful essays on relevant subjects that will appeal to business leaders, military professionals, and fans of science fiction alike.

The Mind of Consciousness The Mind of Consciousness is a book unfolding a new way, with new process methods to evaluate your existence. It is an experiential work written in textbook format that analytically delineates how and why consciousness and mind interface and function, exposing the inter-connective dependency of non-biological consciousness and the biologically created mind. Knowing how that interconnectivity interrelates provides avenues of exploration that reveal the fundamental nature of existence, unveiling an innate purpose and direction embedded within consciousness. This book works through all the major questions of existence, using reproducible and experiential logic, allowing everyone to experience the results of that exploration. Throughout your life you have two realities at war with one another: the primary ‘I am’ reality, formed from non-biological consciousness, and the secondary ‘I am this or that’ reality, formed by the biological mind. You may not be aware of, or even appreciate, the internal conflict these two inter-connective and inter-dependent realities create. However, you experience the resultant turmoil and confusion their subliminal battles establish by not having an experiential appreciation of how those realities are formed, function and potentially control your life. The text delineates causation for those ongoing internal battles and outlines processes to help overcome the sense of frustration, isolation and discord they generate. This experiential method of examination creates empirical processes that afford you the opportunity to make an informed choice, rather than a conditioned reaction: providing a more secure, productive, directional and enjoyable life. This book takes you into the core of your being, turning it inside out, exposing who and what you are by revealing a self-created shadow-world controlling your life without you being aware that control exists.

Kierkegaard S Concept Of The Interesting written by Anthony Eagan and has been published by Rowman & Littlefield this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-07-31 with Philosophy categories.
Volume one of Søren Kierkegaard’s Either/Or explores the crisis of the modern secular void—with its attendant doubt, ennui, and alienation—from the first-person perspective of an aesthete who, lacking any epistemic or moral foundations, grows increasingly obsessed with what he calls “the interesting.” In a close explication of the history of that aesthetic concept and a thorough exegesis of this volume, Kierkegaard’s Concept of the Interesting: The Aesthetic Gulf in Either/Or I explores the aesthete’s views on beauty, opera and music, tragedy and comedy, time, unhappiness, the difference between suffering and pain, boredom, eroticism, deception, and seduction, along with the ways in which these precipitate the ambition for increasingly interesting experiences. In this examination, Anthony Eagan thoroughly reveals Kierkegaard’s own perspective on how an exclusively aesthetic attitude can lead to an ever-more voracious tendency to interpret the world in a private, self-defeating, and unscrupulous fashion—one arising from and ultimately leading to moral solipsism and despair. This book develops a comprehensive understanding of Either/Or I that is crucial for understanding the rest of Kierkegaard’s authorship.

Lu Samadhi, The Blue Lotus, Philosophia Perennis and The Mood and the Lotus are a series of four books about inner science, about the remembrance rediscovery of the self through meditation. They are about the realization of your soul and how this realization can change your life completely. When you live your life in your mind, you live in a horizontal plane. When you live your life through your soul, there is a quantum leap from the horizontal to the vertical plane. This timeless vertical plane is the dimension of the soul, where past, present and future cease to exist.Through these four books, you will learn one of the most sophisticated methodologies for understanding the 7 strata of organic unity - the Astral Bodies. The first one is the Physical Body, which moves forward through time. The Etheric body, which is your emotional layer, moves through space. The Astral body, which is your unconscious, can travel backwards in time all the way to your birth. The Mental body has a horizontal dimension and can pierce past the future one at a time. The spiritual body has a vertical dimension and can pierce backwards up to empty consciousness. The cosmic body, also in the vertical dimension, is the body where you are essentially diffused, annihilated and become one with the cosmos. The seventh and last body, The Nirvanic body, is an incorporeal state where you are essentially intrinsic to the empty consciousness, immortal, eternal. These four books will allow you to discover the essential immortality of your soul. The methodology of inner science contained in them will help you in the evolution of your organic unity.
