“The cross is too important a matter to be left to the theologians. If it is true that God almighty was in Christ redeeming the world on Calvary, then we need to understand what that cross can mean for ordinary individuals and communities.” With this conviction, Green reexamines the question of atonement. Why did Jesus have to die? How could a loving God allow his son to suffer? And what role does the resurrection play in this divine drama? Rooting his discussion in Scripture, Green opens up the meaning of Easter in an easy, nontechnical style. The empty cross of Jesus liberates the theologian, inspires the preacher, comforts the counselor, and fortifies every disciple for a life of self-sacrifice.

A beloved pastor and a New York Times bestselling author examine scripture and share inspiring personal stories to help reveal the important role that Jesus’ resurrection plays in our everyday lives. The Son of God was crucified, died and buried, and He lay in the tomb for three days—until He walked out shining like the sun. In a culture in which history is erased or rewritten at will, the existence of an empty tomb matters. Why? Because if the tomb is empty—then anything is possible. In his first book, Joby Martin, Lead Pastor of The Church of Eleven22, dives deep into scripture and traces the story of salvation by highlighting the seven mountains throughout scripture where God manifests himself. As he describes each encounter with God, Martin shows us how the interaction on each mountain laid the groundwork for the sacrifice of Christ on Calvary, and shows what God revealed about Himself in the process. He illuminates seven familiar passages, unveiling how God's plan for Christ's sacrifice is threaded throughout scripture, and shows why Christ's resurrection—impossible, unbelievable—means that nothing is too hard for our God. Ultimately, he asks readers, Do you live every day of your life as if the tomb is empty—or as though Jesus is still hanging on that cross? Written with New York Times bestselling author Charles Martin, If the Tomb is Empty is an insightful and spiritually rich examination of what the miracle of Christ's resurrection means for all of us.

Nothing is more central to the Bible than Jesus' death and resurrection, over one weekend in Jerusalem about two thousand years ago. Attempts to make sense of the Bible that do not integrate the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus are doomed to failure. Jesus' own followers did not expect him to be crucified; they certainly did not expect him to rise again. Yet after these events their thinking and attitudes were so transformed that they could see the sheer inevitability that Jesus would die on a cross and leave an empty tomb behind, and absolutely everything in their lives was changed. However much the Bible insists on the historicity of these events, it is as important to know what they mean as to know that they happened. With clarity and conviction, D. A. Carson unpacks what some of the earliest witnesses wrote, in five New Testament texts, to provide an introductory explanation of Jesus’ death and resurrection.

From the Cradle to the Cross From the Grave to the Sky is a book about the life and Times of the Lord Jesus Christ as he walked the earth more than two thousand years ago. There are four specific areas in this study that make up the foundation for this book. Phase One deals with prophecies concerning the birth and reign of Jesus and the circumstances that surround his life as a child. The bible does not elaborate on the first twelve years of his life so there is reason to believe that his life was that of a normal child. What is important to note is that Matthew gave a genealogy of Jesus; not only to show his lineage to David, but more importantly to demonstrate that he was not begotten by anyone but the Holy Ghost. Matthew chapter 1 verses 1-17 speaks of the lineage of Jesus but verses 18-23 speaks of his conception by the Holy Ghost. This is extremely important for him to be called the Son of God. Since Jesus was conceived by the Holy Ghost and he is called the Son of God, it is reasonable to say that the Holy Ghost is God. Phase Two goes a little deeper as we follow his footsteps from the river Jordan where he was baptized by John the Baptist; to a place called Calvary where he would be crucified. Jesus himself prophesied of his own death. Matthew 20 verses 18-19 Jesus said, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death. Phase Three will take us into the grave where the tell-tale signs of his return would be discovered. There would also be witnesses in the grave who testified about his resurrection. We will discuss the significance of the empty tomb and what it means to the believer. There is more on the resurrection and the disappearance of Jesus for eight days. Phase Four captures the disciples looking up into the sky because the Saviour of the world, the King of glory was on his way to heaven. There are several incidents that took place from the time he was placed in the grave to the moment he was taken up into the sky; all of which are instrumental to the faith of the believer. In this phase, Jesus speaks of the love that we ought to have for the brethren. In the gospel of John, he gave us a new commandment that we should love one another as he loved us. (John 13 verse 34) This was before his death, but after his death, he brought the subject back to the surface and spoke of the two aspects of Love; namely, agapao and phileo. There is a reason behind all that is written in this book. The Apostle John wrote, All these are written that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

A thoughtful meditation on the Stations of the Cross for followers who want a deeper understanding of the Passion and the meaning of Easter. With a helpful map, illustrations. Every Friday in Jerusalem, Franciscan monks take groups of pilgrims down the Via Dolorosa, the road Christ may have walked on his way to the cross. Stopping at each of fourteen locations that mark events in the final days of Christ’s life, the pilgrims recall the Passion story and offer prayers for the world. In A Walk in Jerusalem, The Rev. Canon John L. Peterson, Secretary General of the Anglican Communion, brings new life to this centuries-old ritual known as the Stations of the Cross. Illustrated with a map, 14 black-and-white photographs, and 14 pen-and-ink drawings, this helpful guide provides the appropriate episode of the Passion story along with a meditation and brief liturgy that apply that story to today’s world. Designed for use on Good Friday or general devotions, A Walk in Jerusalem offers new insight into the Passion Narratives and encouragement to live as Christ taught. “A very moving presentation of the Way of the Cross.”―Religious Resources International
