By this book, I tried to find answers to the questions which don't appear directly in the Gospels. In fact, erothetics is the way of finding the question from the given answer. We have the Gospels, where the writers presented to us what Jesus did. But what if there where some questions, which were common for that time, and un-common for our time-reality? Then was the sermons, when I was astonished by the ministers which proclaimed that Jesus began story-telling, because He didn't knew what to say to the listeners. Or worse even, some ministers 'corrected' Jesus' parables, by this distorting the whole truth. This is why I alone, searched some answers, and by this, I provide You what I did found.

Winner of the 2009 Christianity Today Award for Biblical Studies, Stories with Intent offers pastors and students a comprehensive and accessible guide to Jesus' parables. Klyne Snodgrass explores in vivid detail the historical context in which these stories were told, the part they played in Jesus' overall message, and the ways in which they have been interpreted in the church and the academy. Snodgrass begins by surveying the primary issues in parables interpretation and providing an overview of other parables—often neglected in the discussion—from the Old Testament, Jewish writings, and the Greco-Roman world. He then groups the more important parables of Jesus thematically and offers a comprehensive treatment of each, exploring both background and significance for today. This tenth anniversary edition includes a substantial new chapter that surveys developments in the interpretation of parables since the book's original 2008 publication.

The most comprehensive volume ever produced in defense of the Gospels and Acts The four Gospels and the book of Acts tell stories of Jesus’ life and the birth of Christianity. Are these stories true history or just religious fiction? Christians accept the stories as true and say that the entire Bible is a reliable communication inspired by God. Against this, non-Christians have argued that the Bible is a book of legends, myths, and historical inaccuracies—just another example of human religious endeavor. In this volume, four world-class New Testament scholars address challenges to the reliability of the Gospels and Acts. In order to identify the most important challenges, the authors drew from the literature of skeptics and New Testament critics, plus they included questions that many Christians ask as well. The result is the most comprehensive defense of the Gospels and Acts that has ever been published. The primary purpose of the Holman Apologetics Commentary on the Bible is to equip readers to defend the reliability of Scripture and the historic evangelical understanding of its teachings. It is designed for use by general readers, though scholars will find it a probing and welcome resource as well. A secondary purpose is to encourage awareness and discussion of Bible difficulties that are not commonly mentioned from the pulpit or even the seminary lectern. This is not a verse-by-verse commentary. The authors were provided an index that identified verses known to be relevant to the topics of apologetics and biblical reliability. They restricted their comments to these verses, plus any others that they recognized as germane to the aims of this project. Typically, each commentary note begins by stating the challenge or challenges regarding the text at hand. We attempt to state the case in all its potency, as a critic would state it. This approach takes seriously the critical viewpoint and helps ensure that the reader feels the full weight of the challenge. The contributors take each challenge seriously and seek to describe viable solutions that support faith and align with a high view of Scripture.

Here, for the first time, is a comprehensive, one-volume reference work which traces the development of the Christian Church from a sound historical and evangelical perspective. More than a million words in 4,800 articles lead us down the byways of 2,000 years of history to marvel at how colorful and exciting and many-faceted is our Christian record, and how musicians and missionaries, seers and soldiers, kings and councils, poets and persecutors, humanists, and heretics have all, for better or worse, made a contribution to the heritage of our faith. This volume sets out to give information not easily available elsewhere in such convenient form, and thus to encourage the reader to appreciate the richness, diversity, and wholeness of the Christian tradition. More than 180 scholars from United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and many other nations have contributed their expertise, incorporating recent archaeological discoveries, conclusions to documentary research, and specialized studies. Useful cross-references and bibliographies of significant works enhance this dictionary as a basic sourcebook and study tool. Because the Christian faith has so profoundly influenced the course of Western civilization, a knowledge of the Church's times and seasons, institutions and aberrations, triumphs and failings is essential to an understanding of contemporary culture and religious life. Here in sound historical and critical perspective are described the "New Catholicism," the higher criticism of the Holy Scriptures, the varying viewpoints of Jesus Christ as God, man, and God-man, the indigenous character of the Church in different countries and continents of the world. This is a volume to give laymen and scholars alike a renewed sense of history; an identification and feeling of fellowship with those who have carried the torch of truth before us; and most of all an appreciation of the priceless heritage which is ours in Christ."
