The study of New Religious Movements (NRMs) is one of the fastest-growing areas of religious studies, and since the release of the first edition of The Oxford Handbook of New Religious Movements in 2003, the field has continued to expand and break new ground. In this all-new volume, James R. Lewis and Inga B. Tøllefsen bring together established and rising scholars to address an expanded range of topics, covering traditional religious studies topics such as "scripture," "charisma," and "ritual," while also applying new theoretical approaches to NRM topics. Other chapters cover understudied topics in the field, such as the developmental patterns of NRMs and subcultural considerations in the study of NRMs. The first part of this book examines NRMs from a social-scientific perspective, particularly that of sociology. In the second section, the primary factors that have put the study of NRMs on the map, controversy and conflict, are considered. The third section investigates common themes within the field of NRMs, while the fourth examines the approaches that religious studies researchers have taken to NRMs. As NRM Studies has grown, subfields such as Esotericism, New Age Studies, and neo-Pagan Studies have grown as distinct and individual areas of study, and the final section of the book investigates these emergent fields.

This Handbook provides a comprehensive look at the educational scope of life and values that characterize 21st-century Asia, as well as those values shared across cultures. Some values are deeply resonant with the region’s past while others reflect modernity and the new contexts in which Asian societies find themselves. Exploring these values of different types and the way they are constructed in Eastern and Western contexts, the contributors delve into the diversity of religious, moral and social education to promote greater understanding across cultures. While a range of values is identified here, there is no single set of values that can be applied to all people in all contexts. The time has long gone, even for single societies, when values can be imposed. Yet this Handbook emphasizes both the extent and importance of values to individuals and their societies—how they respond to these values may provide the key to better and more caring societies and to better lives for all. Academics and teachers will find this Handbook resourceful because it raises important theoretical issues related to social values and their formation in distinctive contexts and provides novel insights into the diverse educational landscape in Asia. Policymakers and educators will also find this text helpful in learning to think about new ways to improve the quality of people’s lives.

This book is written on the subject of self-empowerment and fulfillment for those people who want to improve themselves and who value freedom and authenticity more than any other principles. The book is unique in that firstly, it is written from personal experience; and secondly, it is also written from the esoteric perspective. The key element of this book revolves around paymentin life, we must pay for all we get. We must pay for all that is real and authentic. Should we desire freedom and authenticity in our lives, then we must be prepared to pay the price. This may sound somewhat harsh to some, but it is a universal rule and principle. And if we understand it and take it onboard, things quickly fall into place in terms of action and efforts. The idea involves efforts and sacrifice. Sometimes we have to sacrifice certain things in our lives in order to gain those things important to us. We can all understand this in relation to an Olympic athelete who sacrifices much time and energy in pursuit of Olympic gold, but we seem to be unable to apply this same principle to ourselves and our life. Should we desire maximum freedom and self-empowerment in our life, this working manual will be a definitive aid to many, so long as this basic concept is understood and used unreservedly. This volume has been written in a lucid and clear style, avoiding the pitfalls of an academic work or pseudointellectualism. Remember the old adage, The intellectual is the enemy of authentic knowledge and wisdom. This volume has many valuable sections to aid the individual quest for freedom, authenticity, and self-empowerment. Here are just a few of the chapters listed below for your reference: Mans True Inner Psychology. Filters in the Psyche of Man Addressing Personal Deficiencies Working on Personal Deficiencies Taking Back Ones Power Cleansing the Emotional Centre Fulfillment/Meaning in Life Relationships Finding Ones Gift Confidence and Self-Esteem Conclusion This manual is written in a frank and definitive style, giving particular attention to the psychology of the self and methods useful for viewings ones potential. This is achieved in essence via the introduction of esoteric knowledge on the subjecta powerful modality that enables one to reassess how we function as human beings and how we can develop new qualities or abilities, confidence and self-esteem, a higher cognitive ability, a new perspective on life, and how to reeducate ourselves about what really mattersexiting the herd mentality and creating a wellspring of self-empowerment and authenticity in our lives. This material is not an academic work; it is a manual designed to be studied and then used in a practical fashion. It does not give indications or advice that one cannot implement in a practical way. A combination of personal experience and useful esoteric wisdom creates a powerful and dynamic crucible of ideas and concepts, from which one may distill new meaning and purpose for oneself. This volume is exciting because it has been compiled by a person who has used these same principles and ideas in everyday life, with great success. With this material, we can make life our canvas! Teach me how to trust my heart, my mind, my intuition; my inner knowing, the senses of my body, the blessings of my spirit. Teach me to trust these things so that I may enter my sacred space and love beyond my fear, and thus walk in balance with the passing of each glorious Sun (Lakota Indian prayer, internet quote).

What happens when we die? Are loved ones still around us after they pass? How do babies represent as souls? What about our pets do they wait for us on the "other side"? The world of mediumship has polarized people throughout history, and whether you believe or not, science is starting to take notice and is setting about investigating all possibilities. Bestselling author Scott Podmore returns after a two-year project in which he interviewed more than thirty mediums all over the planet from differing socioeconomic backgrounds and cultures. In this book, he selects twelve of the "conversations" that took place, and all have a similar line of topics in his aim to find threads of consistency or inconsistencies. Coming from a standpoint of giving these mediums the benefit of the doubt, he provides a forum to discuss their alleged abilities that cover areas including spirituality, psychic predictions, physical mediumship, electronic voice phenomena, trance, and more. Podmore delves deep into the world of spiritual mediumship with probing yet respectful questions, in a mission to discover how it all works. He encounters many surprises along the way that may even change your own belief systems, help readers understand their own adversities, find emotional healing, or enrich their lives with new meaning and hope.

Going Native Or Going Naive written by Dagmar Wernitznig and has been published by University Press of America this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003 with Body, Mind & Spirit categories.

Going Native or Going Naïve? is a critical analysis of an esoteric-Indian movement, called white shamanism. This movement, originating from the 1980's New Age boom, redefines the phenomenon of playing Indian. For white shamans and their followers, Indianness turns into a signifier for cultural cloning. By generating a neo-primitivistic bias, white shamanism utilizes esoteric reconceptualizations of ethnicity and identity. In Going Native or Going Naïve?, a retrospective view on psychohistorical and sociopolitical implications of Indianness and (ig)noble savage metaphors should clarify the prefix neo within postmodern adaptations of primitivism. The appropriation of an Indian simulacrum by white shamans as well as white shamanic disciplines connotes a subtle, yet hazardous form of ethnocentrism. Transcending mere market trends and profit margins, white shamanism epitomizes synthetic/cybernetic acculturations. Through investigating the white shamanic matrix, Going Native or Going Naïve? is intended to make these synthesizing processes more transparent.
