Excerpt from Zoroastrian Ethics The present small volume was undertaken as one subject of study as Fellow in the Seminar for the Comparative Study of Religions established in the College, Baroda, by His Highness the Maharaja Sayaji Rao Gaekwad, K C. S. I. Etc. The subject was suggested by Professor Widgery who also guided the author in the plan and in the general working out of the theme. It is his hope that companion volumes on the ethical ideas associated with other religions will shortly be undertaken. Such ethical studies form an important part of the aim which His Highness had in view in establishing the Seminar. The chapter which treats of the religious conceptions is less elaborate than it might well have been, because Dr. Dhalla's masterly volume on Zoroastrian Theology, New York, 1914, cannot be dispens ed with by any genuine student of Zoroastrian ism, and all important details may be learnedfrom it. It only remains to thank Professor Widgery for writing a general introduction and for his continued help throughout the process of the work. Zoroaster's story is not just about a man; it's about a revolution of the mind and spirit. Throughout history, certain individuals have emerged as transformative figures, guiding humanity toward new horizons. Zoroaster was one such luminary. His teachings weren't just words; they were the birth of a fresh perspective, a unique way of looking at the cosmos, morality, and the nature of existence. In the chapters that follow, we'll explore every facet of Zoroaster's life. We'll trace his footsteps from his humble beginnings to his profound revelations. Prepare to be captivated by his teachings—teachings that emphasized the battle between good and evil, the importance of ethical living, and the worship of a single divine entity, Ahura Mazda. These teachings weren't just intellectual constructs; they became the cornerstone of a religion that would influence countless lives and cultures. Our journey isn't just a chronological exploration; it's an immersion into the heart and soul of a visionary. We'll unravel the mysteries behind Zoroaster's creation of the “Avesta”, the sacred texts that preserved his wisdom for future generations. As we venture deeper, we'll uncover Zoroaster's legacy—the profound impact he left on the fabric of history, his influence on other belief systems, and his enduring relevance in modern times. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Our journey begins with the most fundamental step—a comprehensive understanding of Zoroaster's life. Zoroastrianism A Guide For The Perplexed written by Jenny Rose and has been published by A&C Black this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-08-18 with Religion categories.

The significance of the Zoroastrian religion in the development of the history of thought is often only mentioned in passing, or is completely overlooked. Zoroastrianism has developed over a span of at least three thousand years, with roots in a common Indo-Iranian culture and mythology, then becoming part of imperial Iranian ideology within an Ancient Near Eastern setting, and emerging in variant forms in western and central Asia in late antiquity. The religion continues as a living faith for an estimated 130 - 150,000 adherents in the world. Most Zoroastrians if asked, 'In a nutshell, what do Zoroastrians believe?' would begin their answer with the moral maxim: 'Good Thoughts, Good Words, Good Deeds.' Zoroastrianism: A Guide for the Perplexed takes this foundational trifold ethic as the framework for its three main chapters. The book presents a comprehensive study of the religion through its focus on the questions that perplexed seekers might ask of a Zoroastrian concerning ideology and ethics; current discussions of 'text' and 'author'; and the putting-into-practice of the religion.

Originally published in 1956, this book provides a clear, scholarly, introduction to the main tenets of Zoroastrian dualism presented largely in the words of the Zoroastrian texts themselves. The book demonstrates the essential reasonableness of Zoroastrian dualism, which is the dualism of a good and an evil spirit, and to show what the means in everyday life and how it is philosophically justified. There are chapters on cosmology, the relation of man to God, the nature of religion, ethics, sacraments and sacrifice, the soul’s fate at death and eschatology.
