From the co-founder of Plated, the home delivery food service, an inspirational business title that is a call-to-arms and investigation into the industrial American food complex. In early 2012, Nick Taranto was twenty-seven years old, recently married, and fresh out of the Marine Corps. He moved back to New York City, started working on Wall Street, and put on twenty pounds in under six months. He was pasty, overweight, and depressed – and he knew there had to be a better way to eat (and live). The Evolved Eater chronicles his quest to change how we eat, and what this means for the future of food. As the co-founder of Plated, which has delivered tens of millions of meals across the country in its first five years, Taranto cares about the food we eat. As Evolved Eaters, we strive to continually improve and evolve as we grow through life. And eating – and being close to the food you cook and consume – is an inseparable part of this evolution. Americans throw away over 300 billion pounds of food each year, while millions of children are food insecure or poorly nourished. How did the most food abundant nation in history get this vital issue so wrong? Taranto provides eye-opening facts about how we acquire and eat food and easy and practical things that you can do to improve the way you eat (and live) starting today. Eating doesn’t need to be complicated or painful or over-thought. We’re starting The Evolved Eater revolution right here, right now.

This book will take you on an exciting journey made up of texts and images. Spectacular, large-scale photographs printed on double pages and accompanied by explanatory texts will arouse the reader’s curiosity about evolution’s accomplishments in the world of flying: from the botanical air fleet (pollen grains, flying seeds...), over flying snakes and fish, to penguins flying underwater and humans rising into the air. Mathematician and passionate animal photographer Georg Glaser has joined forces with the experienced evolutionary biologist Hannes Paulus and the exercise physiologist and flight biophysicist Werner Nachtigall in order to approach this topic with words and pictures in a way that is both generally comprehensible and scientifically sound. Double-page by double-page, the book can be read in any order. Cross-references allow to jump easily from one double-page to another. Aside from the detailed introduction to each chapter, the text passages are usually independent from one another, and they discuss crucial moments in the evolutionary process. The double-pages provide additional information on bibliographical references and references to informative websites.

What is the place of Europe in the origin of humankind? While our earliest human ancestors may have come out of Africa, many of our more recent ancestors and those of other primates left their fossil remains in Europe and the Near East. Hominoid primates including Dryopithecus in Spain and Hungary, Oreopithecus in Italy, and Ouranopithecus in Greece flourished in the Miocene, approximately 10-7 million years ago. This volume examines these and other hominoid fossils found in Eurasia and discusses what we can learn using biostratigraphic and ecological frameworks. In addition, new methods of analyzing and visualizing fossil hominoids are explored, including CT-based and computer-assisted virtual reconstruction of fossils to allow three-dimensional images of external and internal morphology of even fragmentary or distorted fossils. This volume will be invaluable for practicing palaeoanthropologists and palaeontologists regardless of specialty.

Dr Hilary Fry's study of the bee-eaters covers all 24 species of this colourful Family, which ranges from southern Europe, Africa and the Middle East to India, China, south-east Asia and Australia. A major part of the book comprises the species accounts, with complementary colour plates of 42 species and sub-species and detailed maps depicting the geography of their evolution. In addition there are chapters on the bee-eaters' evolutionary development, their food and foraging behaviour, and relationships with apiculture; of particular interest are chapters on social and reproductive life, the role of 'helpers' at the nest, and the meaning of plumage and social distinctions between the species. The author's colour plates delight the eye and accurately portray plumage and 'jizz'. They are fully supplemented by more than 100 drawings by John Busby, capturing the essence of these birds with a rare deftness and vitality.

Children are born intuitive eaters in a society where diet culture dominates. Parents are concerned about how to best feed their children, and nearly everyone is offering solutions on how to tackle the childhood obesity epidemic. But these solutions miss the most important thing: a healthy relationship with food. The absence of this healthy relationship can lead to disastrous consequences: weight cycling, low self-esteem and eating disorders can result from this fear-based approach to food that has become the norm for us all. How to Raise an Intuitive Eater is a compassionate guide for parents to help improve the health, happiness and wellbeing of their children. Based on their experiences working with parents and children, Sumner Brooks and Amee Severson understand that parents want their kids to live their best lives in the bodies they were born to have.

Grooming Gossip And The Evolution Of Language written by Robin Dunbar and has been published by Faber & Faber this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-04-07 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

Did mankind evolve unusually large brains simply in order to gossip? Primates differ from other animals by the intensity of their social relationships, by the amount of time they spend grooming one another. Not just a matter of hygiene, grooming is all about cementing bonds, making friends and influencing your fellow ape. Early humans, in their characteristic large groups of 150 or so, would have had to spend almost half their time in mutual grooming. Instead, Professor Robin Dunbar argues, they evolved a more efficient mechanism: language. It seems there is nothing idle about idle chatter. Having a good gossip ensures that a dynamic group - of hunter-gatherers, soldiers, workmates - remains cohesive.Men and women 'gossip' equally, but men tend to talk about themselves, while women talk more about other people, working to strengthen the female-female relationships that underpin both human and primate societies. Until now, most anthropologists have assumed that language developed in male-male relationships, during activities such as hunting. Dunbar's intriguing research suggests that, to the contrary, language evolved among women.
