Breakfast At The Exit Cafe written by Wayne Grady and has been published by Greystone Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-09-25 with Travel categories.

What begins as a road trip through America soon becomes a journey of discovery into themselves and into the heart of the next-door neighbour they thought they knew. For Wayne Grady, the thrill of landscape and history is tempered by memories of racism and his own family roots. Merilyn Simonds, her ear tuned for the offbeat, finds curious echoes of the ex-pat promised land she grew up with. Together they travel against the tide of American history, following in the literary tire tracks of John Steinbeck, William Least Heat Moon, and Francis Trollope. Grady and Simonds experience the splendors of the Mojave Desert, the Grand Canyon, the Mississippi River, and the bayou’s of Louisiana and the Outer Banks and contemplate the impact of geography on culture and of culture on landscape. They observe America from the outside, yet feel strangely at home. Part travelogue, part exploration, part mid-winter love story told with wit and acuity by one of Canada’s most engaging literary couples, Breakfast at the Exit Cafe is a journey into the reality behind the cultural myth that is America.

Exit Voice And Loyalty written by Albert O. Hirschman and has been published by Harvard University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1970 with Business & Economics categories.

An innovator in contemporary thought on economic and political development looks here at decline rather than growth. Albert O. Hirschman makes a basic distinction between alternative ways of reacting to deterioration in business firms and, in general, to dissatisfaction with organizations: one, “exit,” is for the member to quit the organization or for the customer to switch to the competing product, and the other, “voice,” is for members or customers to agitate and exert influence for change “from within.” The efficiency of the competitive mechanism, with its total reliance on exit, is questioned for certain important situations. As exit often undercuts voice while being unable to counteract decline, loyalty is seen in the function of retarding exit and of permitting voice to play its proper role. The interplay of the three concepts turns out to illuminate a wide range of economic, social, and political phenomena. As the author states in the preface, “having found my own unifying way of looking at issues as diverse as competition and the two-party system, divorce and the American character, black power and the failure of ‘unhappy’ top officials to resign over Vietnam, I decided to let myself go a little.”

Christopher anguished as he read John's suicide note. The note made reference to the evil one among them. Who did he mean? Perhaps the crazy old wizard was right when he warned Christopher on that dark evening that the end was near, and God was coming for him. The way things were going, it didn't surprise Christopher. His marriage was in serious trouble. He was broke. The company he worked for was in jeopardy. And now someone he knew had tried to kill himself. He buried his head in his hands thinking about how it all started, and what he had to do to stop what was going to happen next...before it was too late. He desperately needed to find Alayne. He hadn't seen her since that night they were in the park together. Something very bizarre happened there which Christopher couldn't explain to anyone, even himself. Alayne was a ballerina and loved to dance. On that same evening, under the glow of a bright full moon, she took off her shoes and gracefully balanced atop the playground swing, before mysteriously transfiguring into someone entirely different. It wasn't Alayne anymore. Christopher's mind went blank. That was the last thing he remembered...

1989. Severin Boxx is the seventeen-year-old son of an Air Force pilot who lives on a military base in Japan. He loves -- from afar -- Virginia Kindwall, the daughter of the general who runs the base. Virginia is tough and sophisticated beyond her years, and when she falls in with the Japanese underground her dealings result in her disappearance and Severin is forced to return to America. 2006. Unhappily married and living in San Francisco, Severin's life is turned upside-down by the arrival of a postcard from General Kindwall, now dying in a hospital in Vietnam, asking him to find his daughter before he dies. But the search for Virginia will take him back to the country of his youth, and to unexpected consequences for both. Suffused with the same intensity of emotion and facility with language as Jarhead, Anthony Swofford's debut novel marks the arrival of a major new voice in fiction.
