The Fairshare Model is an idea for a performance-based capital structure that redefines capitalism at the DNA level, where ownership interests are set. When used to raise venture capital via an IPO, it balances and aligns the interests of investors and employees--capital and labor. Author Karl Sjogren utilizes highly approachable language, humor, and analogies, along with insights about capital markets. The result is an eclectic, yet inviting discussion that might occur in a graduate-level symposium on economics, finance, and philosophy. This groundbreaking book focuses on startup valuations--microeconomics. But it also considers the macroeconomic implications of the Fairshare Model for economic growth, income inequality, and shared stakeholding, as well as game theory and financing of blockchain projects. The Fairshare Model has two classes of stock--both vote but only one is tradable. --Investors get the tradable stock. Employees get it too, for actual performance. --For future performance, employees get the non-tradable stock; it converts to the tradable stock based on milestones. With this structure, public investors are more likely to profit when they invest in a company with high failure risk--because they have less valuation risk. By offering a better form of capitalism, The Fairshare Model is a movement book for our times.

“What a di?erence a year makes – 52 little weeks” This variation of the ?rst line from Dinah Washington’s famous song, which originally reads, “What a di?erence a day makes - 24 little hours,” brings it to the point: Accordingtoallexperts, thepress, andmostpeople’simpressionwearetoday in a serious economic recession. Less than one year ago, we practically lived on the “island of the blessed” (namely, at Networking 2008 that was held on the island of Singapore), or in the famous country where “milk and honey ?ow” (or “where wine and liquor ?ow”). This convenient situation has changed abruptly within less than 52 weeks. It looks like the same kind of problems has emerged in all areas – and the “Networking” area has, of course, been a?ected, too. Looking into the 2009 proceedings, however, you will immediately notice that the manuscripts are largely una?ected by any aspect of the economic c- sis (which should be a bit of a consolation). Apparently, research directions are dictated by a process that is all too sluggish in order to be quickly and radically changed by a “tsunami.” Likewise, the conference itself was prepared in spite of such a crisis.

A comprehensive study in efficient multi-rate teletraffic loss models used for designing, performance analysis, and optimization of systems and networks Efficient Multirate Teletraffic Loss Models Beyond Erlang is an easy-to-read book filled with numerous efficient teletraffic loss models. Presented in three sections—Teletraffic Models of Random Input, Teletraffic Models of Quasi-Random Input, and Teletraffic Models of Batched Poisson Input—it covers everything that a professional experienced with optimization and dimensioning of telecom networks could ever need to know. This unique book provides a detailed explanation on how efficient multirate teletraffic loss models are extracted and applied, and guides readers through almost all network technologies and services. Starting from the basics, it steadily increases in difficulty to keep the book self-contained and to provide a better understanding to those who might be new to the subject. It includes detailed explanations of the complex teletraffic models—many of which were developed by the authors. Tutorial examples, several backed by supplementary software, are accompanied by intermediate results and figures. Additionally, end-of-chapter applications describe the applicability of the models to modern network technologies, updating the incorporated teletraffic models of commercial packages/tools. Uses the classic EMLM (Erlang Multirate Loss Model) as its base to present a comprehensive range of teletraffic models through detailed explanation and numerical examples Filled with the authors’ own original teletraffic models—making for a wholly unique learning experience Offers a clear, self-contained presentation with a beginning, middle, and end Starts with simple models, then moves to more complex models, before finishing with complicated ones Supplemented by an accompanying website with computer implementation of the most important models Directed primarily at telecommunication engineers, Efficient Multirate Teletraffic Loss Models Beyond Erlang is also useful for telecom operators or managers on the higher and average levels, as well a Ph.D. students, researchers, and modelers.
