The book includes the stories of Will and the Magical Forest, Will and the River of Enchantment and Will and the Crystal Fairy written by author Dani Lynn. The Fairy Tale Project Trilogy is about Will, a city boy who goes to visit his Grandpa Otus out in the country in the small town of Astrophyllite. The story follows them on an adventure through a magical forest where they meet some delightful and some downright frightening creatures that teach them patience, to take time and enjoy life, and also give them the opportunity to face their fears, something they discover they are capable of through the power of love. But Will, upon being distracted by a playful frog, followed it directly into the forbidden forest. Forgetting his own fear, Grandpa ran right in to catch up with Will and right through an unseen portal, finding himself transformed into a young boy once again. Our travelers encounter the dreadful bophants and also the giant Namura who gives them a spell to awaken the Sphinx with the hope that he will show them the way home. Part Two, Will and the River of Enchantment: Will and Grandpa Otus meet some delightful creatures including fairies, gnomes, an enchanted unicorn and more along the River of Enchantment including the infamous Thiesel the Alligator, as they continue on their journey in search of the Sphinx. Part Three, Will and the Crystal Fairy: After journeying through one realm after another in this magical, mystical world, Will and Grandpa Otus find themselves in the very peculiar cave of the Sphinx as they attempt to answer his riddle in order to make their way back home. They meet a number of fanciful characters including the magical Crystal Fairy on their memorable journey. The Fairy Tale Project is based on a trilogy of children's books written by Dani Lynn and illustrated by award winning artist Jacklyn Laflamme. The project began in March 2010 with a grant from the Art and Cultural Division of Broward County, Florida. Dani and Jacklyn have shared their stories and artwork through art/ literature workshops and storybook readings at schools, museums, galleries, parks and libraries throughout Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties in South Florida. The unique combination of a fairy tale told with words and art made the story come alive and has been very well received by children and adults alike. Gothel is a witch. Punished for the actions of her mother, her choice is simple: either she stands guard over Princess Rapunzel—or she dies. But just because a choice is easy doesn’t mean it’s pleasant. Protecting Rapunzel means watching as the princess lays trapped in a tower, bedridden by hair that is so long and heavy it’s slowly driving her insane. Gothel’s life has become one of imprisonment and solitude as well—until a prince and his handsome squire appear at the tower. Only one object can cut Rapunzel’s hair and end the curse: a pair of magical shears. But the shears are guarded by the most terrifying witches in the land, who also happen to be Gothel’s aunts. As Gothel and the prince’s squire, Raj Talmund, work to form a plan, she finds herself more and more drawn to the mysterious young man from the Outerlands. Unfortunately, his destiny is far more dangerous than she wants to admit: to save a princess, he must kill the witch who's been forced to guard her. THE WITCH'S TOWER is the first in an inspired new series of fairy-tale retellings from award-winning fantasy author Tamara Grantham.

Stephen King goes into the deepest well of his imagination in this spellbinding novel about a seventeen-year-old boy who inherits the keys to a parallel world where good and evil are at war, and the stakes could not be higher--for that world or ours. Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a hit-and-run accident when he was ten, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself--and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from it.Charlie starts doing jobs for Mr. Bowditch and loses his heart to Radar. Then, when Bowditch dies, he leaves Charlie a cassette tape telling a story no one would believe. What Bowditch knows, and has kept secret all his long life, is that inside the shed is a portal to another world. "--Publisher.

Fairy Tale Review written by Kate Bernheimer and has been published by Wayne State University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-06-05 with Fiction categories.

The sheer volume of responses to the first issue of Fairy Tale Review shows that fairy tales continue to be one of the most viable art forms. In fairy tales, all things are interdependent, mysteriously and insanely entwined. They contain a deeply ecological world. The Green Issue is devoted to new fairy tales, with a special consideration for nature. The unbridled individualism at work in the literary forms most dominant today devalues the natural world in relation to the human. In fairy tales, the human world and the animal world are collapsed. The collapse remains open to wonder and change. In this way, fairy tales provide the possibility for narratives to shine a different sort of terrible light on the natural world. This world is transparent, imperiled, abstract, and new. In this world, clarity and wonder go hand and hand.

Fairy Tales Transformed written by Cristina Bacchilega and has been published by Wayne State University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-01 with Literary Criticism categories.

Fairy-tale adaptations are ubiquitous in modern popular culture, but readers and scholars alike may take for granted the many voices and traditions folded into today's tales. In Fairy Tales Transformed?: Twenty-First-Century Adaptations and the Politics of Wonder, accomplished fairy-tale scholar Cristina Bacchilega traces what she terms a "fairy-tale web" of multivocal influences in modern adaptations, asking how tales have been changed by and for the early twenty-first century. Dealing mainly with literary and cinematic adaptations for adults and young adults, Bacchilega investigates the linked and yet divergent social projects these fairy tales imagine, their participation and competition in multiple genre and media systems, and their relation to a politics of wonder that contests a naturalized hierarchy of Euro-American literary fairy tale over folktale and other wonder genres. Bacchilega begins by assessing changes in contemporary understandings and adaptations of the Euro-American fairy tale since the 1970s, and introduces the fairy-tale web as a network of reading and writing practices with a long history shaped by forces of gender politics, capitalism, and colonialism. In the chapters that follow, Bacchilega considers a range of texts, from high profile films like Disney's Enchanted, Guillermo del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth, and Catherine Breillat's Bluebeard to literary adaptations like Nalo Hopkinson's Skin Folk, Emma Donoghue's Kissing the Witch, and Bill Willingham's popular comics series, Fables. She looks at the fairy-tale web from a number of approaches, including adaptation as "activist response" in Chapter 1, as remediation within convergence culture in Chapter 2, and a space of genre mixing in Chapter 3. Chapter 4 connects adaptation with issues of translation and stereotyping to discuss mainstream North American adaptations of The Arabian Nights as "media text" in post-9/11 globalized culture. Bacchilega's epilogue invites scholars to intensify their attention to multimedia fairy-tale traditions and the relationship of folk and fairy tales with other cultures' wonder genres. Scholars of fairy-tale studies will enjoy Bacchilega's significant new study of contemporary adaptations.

I decided to start writing fictitious fairy tales to create very different imaginary outcomes to some of my stressful life experiences. I'd dream as big as I could and while writing it, stay connected to the way it feels as if I already have everything I could imagine. I'd begin to retrain my brain to only think possibilities and refuse to listen to old negative self-talk. Thus, I wrote a fairy tale of about 5,500 words - not enough for a book. However, I already started to think big, and posted in a Writer's Group on Facebook what other people thought about contributing stories for this project. And in thinking BIG, I got 35 initial responses. FAIRY TALE PROJECT was born. I am pleasantly surprised as to how many people love this idea of writing their own fairy tales. With all the positive energy growing out of everyone's excitement in this group, wonderful things for all of us are sure to begin manifesting! If you would like to submit a story for a future volume, go to FAIRY TALE PROJECT on Facebook and ask to join. The submission guidelines are on this site. If you do not use Facebook, email your inquiry to fairytaleproject9@gmail.com. Contributing authors will receive a discount code to order personal copies at a discount to give away to family / friends, and/or sell.
