Because all scripture is “God breathed,” Bill believes we have to take all of it into account when we decide where the balance is on any theological point. He provides powerful tools for the reader to arrive at a “rightly divided” position on any doctrine and to reject any position, by any preacher/teacher that doesn’t line up with that. He uses Content, Context, and Covenant, (the three Cs), to help the reader Recognize, Reject, and Replace, (the three Rs), false doctrine. He focuses this effort on three topics: the false prosperity message, bullies in the pulpit, and misinformation about tithing. He reveals a multitude of scripture that contradicts what the false prosperity preachers teach and shows how they really teach spiritual poverty. He reveals the over 90% of scripture on tithing that most preachers never mention and shows what the true teaching on tithing is. He exposes the weaknesses of “Bible bullies” and shows how to defeat them with the Sword of the Spirit, the Word of God.

What if the biggest danger to the church of Jesus Christ is not blatant heresy, the moral failures of church leaders, persecution, the rise of Islam or the loss of our rights? What if the biggest threat is counterfeit gospels within the church, ways of thinking and speaking about the good news that lead to a gradual drift from the truth of Scripture? The gospel is like a three-legged stool. There’s the Gospel Story – the grand narrative of Scripture (Creation, Fall, Redemption, Restoration). Within that overarching framework, we make the Gospel Announcement about Jesus Christ (His perfect life, substitutionary death, resurrection, exaltation). The gospel announcement then births the Gospel Community: God’s church – the embodiment of the gospel, the manifestation of God’s kingdom. A counterfeit gospel is like a colony of termites, eating away at one of the legs of this stool until the whole thing topples over. This book exposes six common counterfeits (Therapeutic, Judgmentless, Moralist, Quietist, Activist, and Churchless) that would get us off track. The goal of Counterfeit Gospels is to so deepen our love for the unchanging gospel of Jesus Christ that we would easily see through the many counterfeits that leave us impoverished. So come, love the gospel, recognize and overcome the counterfeits, and be empowered for ministry!

Bad News written by Rob Brotherton and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-05-14 with Psychology categories.

From the bestselling author of Suspicious Minds There was a time when the news came once a day, in the morning newspaper. A time when the only way to see what was happening around the world was to catch the latest newsreel at the movies. Times have changed. Now we're inundated. The news is no longer confined to a radio in the living room, or to a nightly half-hour timeslot on the television. Pundits pontificate on news networks 24 hours a day. We carry the news with us, getting instant alerts about events around the globe. Yet despite this unprecedented abundance of information, it seems increasingly difficult to know what's true and what's not. In Bad News, Rob Brotherton delves into the psychology of news, reviewing how the latest research can help navigate this supposedly post-truth world. Which buzzwords describe psychological reality, and which are empty sound bites? How much of this news is unprecedented, and how much is business as usual? Are we doomed to fall for fake news, or is fake news ... fake news? There has been considerable psychological research into the fundamental questions underlying this phenomenon. How do we form our beliefs, and why do we end up believing things that are wrong? How much information can we possibly process, and what is the internet doing to our attention spans? Ultimately this book answers one of the greatest questions of the age: how can we all be smarter consumers of news?

The Psychology Of Fake News written by Rainer Greifeneder and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-08-13 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

This volume examines the phenomenon of fake news by bringing together leading experts from different fields within psychology and related areas, and explores what has become a prominent feature of public discourse since the first Brexit referendum and the 2016 US election campaign. Dealing with misinformation is important in many areas of daily life, including politics, the marketplace, health communication, journalism, education, and science. In a general climate where facts and misinformation blur, and are intentionally blurred, this book asks what determines whether people accept and share (mis)information, and what can be done to counter misinformation? All three of these aspects need to be understood in the context of online social networks, which have fundamentally changed the way information is produced, consumed, and transmitted. The contributions within this volume summarize the most up-to-date empirical findings, theories, and applications and discuss cutting-edge ideas and future directions of interventions to counter fake news. Also providing guidance on how to handle misinformation in an age of “alternative facts”, this is a fascinating and vital reading for students and academics in psychology, communication, and political science and for professionals including policy makers and journalists.

The Roots Of Fake News written by Brian Winston and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-09-01 with Antiques & Collectibles categories.

The Roots of Fake News argues that ‘fake news’ is not a problem caused by the power of the internet, or by the failure of good journalism to assert itself. Rather, it is within the news’s ideological foundations – professionalism, neutrality, and most especially objectivity – that the true roots of the current ‘crisis’ are to be found. Placing the concept of media objectivity in a fuller historical context, this book examines how current perceptions of a crisis in journalism actually fit within a long history of the ways news media have avoided, obscured, or simply ignored the difficulties involved in promising objectivity, let alone ‘truth’. The book examines journalism’s relationships with other spheres of human endeavour (science, law, philosophy) concerned with the pursuit of objective truth, to argue that the rising tide of ‘fake news’ is not an attack on the traditional ideologies which have supported journalism. Rather, it is an inevitable result of their inherent flaws and vulnerabilities. This is a valuable resource for students and scholars of journalism and history alike who are interested in understanding the historical roots, and philosophical context of a fiercely contemporary issue.

Although we appear to have entered a Golden Age of Fake News, fake stories have been passed off as news for a long time in the United States and throughout the world. On December 28, 1917, the New York Evening Mail presented readers with one of the greatest fake news stories up to that time. A Neglected Anniversary by H.L. Mencken was a totally fake history of the bathtub. It may be hard for people to believe that an article about bathtub history could go viral, but it did.Flashing forward to 1980, Janet Cooke wrote an article for the Washington Post about an 8-year-old heroin addict named Jimmy. The story, which was titled Jimmy's World, was heart-breaking. After Cooke won a Pulitzer Prize, people wanted to locate Jimmy so they could help the lad. Unfortunately, there was no Jimmy. Janet had cooked the whole story up.In 2003, The New York Times disclosed that award-winning reporter Jayson Blair had been a plagiarist and a frequent fabricator. In his articles, he had a bad habit of inserting quotes from interviews that never took place. According to The Times, there were problems in "at least 36 of the 73 articles Mr. Blair wrote since he started getting national reporting assignments."Stephen Glass was another "journalist" who found his way to fortune, fame, and infamy by making things up. He wrote mostly for The New Republic where he became an associate editor by the age of twenty-five. Forbes.com outed him in May of 1998. The article was titled Lies, Damn Lies and Fiction by Adam L. Penenberg. These are but a few examples of fake news in which journalists intentionally misled consumers of the news. Sometimes the media also report fake stories unwittingly. In October of 2009, the Balloon Boy captivated audiences as he reportedly floated through the sky in a balloon. Reporters and TV viewers alike ate the story up. It turned out that Falcon Heene had never even left the ground. He had been safe at home the whole time. It turned out that his parents had pulled off one of the greatest hoaxes in modern history.Since the turn of the millennium, fake news has been evolving at an accelerated pace. Not so long ago, tabloids including The Weekly World News, which specialized in fake news, could be readily found in many grocery stores. Fake news in print is not as common as it once was, although we still see it occasionally in newspapers and magazines. Now most of the fake news is on the internet. The Onion is the most well-known publisher of fake news, but there are dozens of other online magazines cranking it out. With some websites, like The Onion, it's clear that the stories presented are satirical. Nevertheless, there are people who believe the articles. Other websites do a very good job of looking legitimate, and for many readers it is easy to believe the articles. For many readers, it has become difficult to distinguish what's real and what's not.Fake News 101 will help readers to recognize various types of fake news. It also presents information on how fake news operates, with examples. Aside from disconnecting and finding a wireless cave to live in, there's probably no way to avoid fake news completely. However, it is possible to avoid being fooled by fake news. The objective of Fake News 101 is to help people to do exactly that.

After The Fact written by Marcus Gilroy-Ware and has been published by Watkins Media Limited this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-11-10 with Political Science categories.

Why do we no longer trust facts, experts and statistics? In this essential guide to the turbulent times in which we live, Marcus Gilroy-Ware investigates our era of post-truths and fake news and answers the question of where we can go from here. We are supposed to have more information at our disposal now than at any time in history. So why, in a world of rising sea levels, populist leaders, resurgent fascism and a global pandemic, do so many people believe bizarre and untrue things about the world we live in? In After the Fact?, Marcus Gilroy-Ware shows us what really created the conditions for mis- and disinformation, from fake news and conspiracy theories, to bullshit journalism and the resurgence of the far-right, and why liberal newspaper columnists and centrist politicians are unable to turn back this tide. Spanning politics, culture, psychology, journalism, and much more, After the Fact? is a timely wake-up call for those who believe we can simply go "back to normal", and instead argues that, if we are to put an end to "fake news" we must deal with the broader social crises that are responsible for it.
