A hilarious debut novel about the tricky period between graduating from college and moving out of your parents’ house What to do when you’ve just graduated from college and your plans conflict with those of your parents? That is, when your plans to hang out on the couch, re-read your favorite children’s books, and take old prescription tranquilizers, conflict with your parents plans that you, well, get a job? Without a fallback plan, Eshter Kohler decides she has no choice but to take the job her mother has lined up for her: babysitting for their neighbors, the Browns. It’s a tricky job, though. Six months earlier, the Browns’ youngest child died. Still, as Esther finds herself falling in love with their surviving daughter May, and distracted by a confusing romance with one of her friends, she doesn’t notice quite how tricky the job is … until she finds herself assuming the role of confidante to May’s mother Amy, and partner in crime to Amy’s husband Nate. Trapped in conflicting roles doomed to collide, Esther is forced to come up with a better idea of who she really is. Both hilarious and heartbreaking, The Fallback Plan is a beautifully written and moving story of what we must leave behind, and what we manage to hold on to, as we navigate the treacherous terrain between youth and adulthood.

Fallback means a backup plan or contingency strategy; an alternative which can be used if something goes wrong with the main plan. Everything in our existence is built around this principle of fallback. There is always a way that things get a backup. Until all options are exhausted, things will always fallback on something or some process of existence. God created it to be so and nature obeys it. It is therefore mandatory that, every human being understands this principle and our connection in the ecosystem on earth. Many a time, we lose sight of this fact as a man, thus, the consequences on us become unbearable and vice versa.

Home Land written by Rebecca Mead and has been published by Atlantic Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-04-21 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

When the New Yorker writer Rebecca Mead relocated to her birth city, London, with her family in the summer of 2018, she was both fleeing the political situation in America and seeking to expose her son to a wider world. With a keen sense of what she'd given up as she left New York, her home of thirty years, she tried to knit herself into the fabric of a changed London. The move raised poignant questions about place: What does it mean to leave the place you have adopted as home and country? And what is the value and cost of uprooting yourself? In a deft mix of memoir and reportage, drawing on literature and art, recent and ancient history, and the experience of encounters with individuals, environments and landscapes in New York City and in England, Mead artfully explores themes of identity, nationality and inheritance. She recounts her time in the coastal town of Weymouth, where she grew up; her dizzying first years in New York where she broke into journalism; the rich process of establishing a new home for her dual-national son in London. Along the way, she gradually reckons with the complex legacy of her parents. Home/Land is a stirring inquiry into how to be present where we are, while never forgetting where we have been.

In today’s climate the need for a closer understanding of the relationship between the two inter-related topics of risk management and finance on construction projects is becoming increasingly crucial to achieving the objectives of the investor, the end-user and the constructor and its supply chain, especially as interest in PFI and PPP arrangements continues to grow around the world. Risk and Financial Management in Construction shows the relationship between the Construction Project Manager’s task of balancing time, cost and quality and the need to satisfy the client’s requirements efficiently, effectively and professionally whilst at the same time contributing to the contractor’s future sustainability. The book covers Risk Management describing the tools and methods to reduce the occurrence and consequences of risk, and the financial management of construction projects from raising funding, to contract strategy and through to estimating, budgeting and cost control. It includes a chapter covering international project risk, bringing together the issues of risk management, prime contracting, and PFI funding for construction projects undertaken away from the contractors main home market. Risk and Financial Management in Construction is aimed at those practising in, or studying to enter, the project management profession in providing a strategic and operational knowledge of these subjects allowing the reader easy access to the key points through a wide selection of models, checklists and easy to find lists in all of the key areas.

"I love these poems." —Joe Dunthorne, author of Submarine Funny, surprising and lyrical, these poems range from the deserts of the Southwest to the abysses of Facebook. From online dating to beauty pageants, Greek mythology to road trips, Leigh Stein gives us resilient young women in longing and in love. Post-confessional—like Sylvia Plath raised on MTV, or Anne Sexton on Twitter—the poems seduce with a narrative hook or startle with a pop culture reference, all the while wrestling fresh meaning out of our fantasy-saturated modern lives. Leigh Stein’s first novel, The Fallback Plan, was hailed as “beautiful, funny, thrilling, and true” by Gary Shteyngart (Super Sad True Love Story). A former New Yorker staffer and frequent contributor to its “Book Bench” blog, Stein is also the author of the poetry chapbook How to Mend a Broken Heart with Vengeance, and is the winner of the Amy Award from Poets & Writers magazine. She lives in Brooklyn.

D-Day, June 6, 1944 Months were spent planning an invasion. An invasion that would either be the beginning of victory or the beginning of defeat. But if it turned out to be the latter? A small group of Canadians were waiting at the north coast of Germany. Waiting in case the invasion failed. In possession of orders containing the words "You may be our last hope." They were the Backup Plan. Doc Beege led a team of researchers at the University of Toronto. When their research yielded a new deadly weapon, the government and military jumped at the opportunity and arranged for Doc Beege and his associates to be in Germany to hand the weapon over to the underground forces. But the government and military had a different plans - plans which could make Doc Beege and his associates the worst war criminals in history. With D-Day fast approaching, Doc Beege's team was sent on the biggest adventure of their lives, to ensure the tide of war turned in the Allies favour. This is a fictional account of an absolutely true Canadian achievement in World War II. The book parallels some of the actual events which occurred at the University of Toronto in the early 1940's. These events revolved around research work done by Dr. James T. Burt-Gerrans, PhD, (the grandfather of the author) and the NEVER BEFORE PUBLISHED chemical discovery made by his team. The book includes a brief description of the actual chemical discovery, probably the only weapon of mass destruction developed in Canada, and the events surrounding its disposition based on input from both Einstein and Churchill.
