These studies focus on personal eschatology in the Jewish and early Christian apocalypses. The apocalyptic tradition from its Jewish origins until the early middle ages is studied as a continuous literary tradition, in which both continuity of motifs and important changes in understanding of life after death can be charted. As well as better known apocalypses, major and often pioneering attention is given to those neglected apocalypses which portray human destiny after death in detail, such as the Apocalypse of Peter, the Apocalypse of the Seven Heavens, the later apocalypses of Ezra, and the four apocalypses of the Virgin Mary. Relationships with Greco-Roman eschatology are explored. Several chapters show how specific New Testament texts are illuminated by close knowledge of this tradition of ideas and images of the hereafter.

The ideology and imagery in the Passion of Perpetua are mediated heavily by traditional Graeco-Roman culture; in particular, by traditional notions of the afterlife and of the ascent of the soul. This context for understanding the Passion of Perpetua aligns well with the available material evidence, and with the writings of Tertullian, with whose ideology the text of Perpetua is in an implicit polemical dialogue.Eliezer Gonzalez analyzes how the Passion of Perpetua provides us with early literary evidence of an environment in which the Graeco-Roman and Christian cults of the dead, including the cults of the martyrs and saints, appear to be very much aligned. He also shows that the text of the Passion of Perpetua and the writings of Tertullian provide insights into an early stage in the polemic between these two conceptualisations of the afterlife of the righteous.

Death is painful and fearful to humans. People fear death. Nobody feels comfortable talking about death. Death is unavoidable.Only God has control over death. When a villager dies, relatives and neighbors come to mourn and pray for the dead person; hoping that prayers will gain the dead relative entry into the gates of Heaven. That is Okay for those who believe in life after death.Even after burying our dead, we never forget them; instead we continue to pray for them on daily basis, we never disconnect our selves from them by saying: TILL WE MEET AGAIN! After this life, then what? Do you really believe that you are a being worthy living? If yes, why would you live and in the end you are nothing? Do you think that God did create you in vain? You be born, you grow and mature to die and vanish into oblivion? Is our God that simple? Do you really believe in God being simple? God is not simple; He created you with a purpose. The purpose was for you to know Him, to love Him, to praise Him and ultimately you go back to Him after death on leaving this world of struggle against the temptations of Satan. On the other hand, there those who do not know what happens when one dies and leaves this world. Others believe that the dead people become devils after death. Christians believe that dead people go back to their Creator, to account for their lives' actions- whether good or bad. This book is meant to encourage those who do good to continue doing good and even do better in their lives, so as to receive God's reward in heaven when they die and leave this world. The story is a narration of series of events encountered by one person, who was very sick and by God's grace was spared death to tell this story for the people to believe or disbelief. After sickness, the narrator lived about 38 years and died in April 2003 about ten years before the first publication of this book. You are encouraged to read this story to get insights of what happens to the souls, where they go or are thought to go and how they get treated when they leave their world after death. It is very interesting, you are encouraged to read and read. The story is long and volume II will follow soon. The book is an encouragement and not a discouragement in life.We know, people do not like talking about death, but there it is and it is part of us. Be blessed and be brave to continue reading to be encouraged to continue doing the best you can while you are in this world of struggle against the devil.Author: Tarcisio Francis Baimaana Gichunge

The fate of the dead is a compelling and emotive subject, which also raises increasingly complex legal questions. This book focuses on the substantive laws around disposal of the recently deceased and associated issues around their post-mortem fate. It looks primarily at the laws in England and Wales but also offers a comparative approach, drawing heavily on material from other common law jurisdictions including Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States. The book provides an in-depth, contextual and comparative analysis of the substantive laws and policy issues around corpse disposal, exhumation and the posthumous treatment of the dead, including commemoration. Topics covered include: the legal frameworks around burial, cremation and other disposal methods; the hierarchy of persons who have a legal duty to dispose of the dead and who are entitled to possession of the deceased’s remains; offences against the dead; family burial disputes, and the legal status of burial instructions; the posthumous use of donated bodily material; and the rules around disinterment, and creating an appropriate memorial. A key theme of the book will be to look at the manner in which conflicts involving the dead are becoming increasingly common in secular, multi-cultural societies where the traditional nuclear family model is no longer the norm, and how such legal contests are resolved by courts. As the first comprehensive survey of the laws in this area for decades, this book will be of use to academics, lawyers and judges adjudicating on issues around the fate of the dead, as well as the death industry and funeral service providers.
