One for the Fellas is the story of Tony Nixon, who excelled in high school and college athletics and academics as a way out of the inner city and seems to be on his way to a very bright future as a lawyer and professional football player until the deaths of his brother and fiancé turn his life upside down, and he makes some very bad decisions. He marries a girl who turns out to be very angry and crazy. Having a child together does not improve the relationship, and they finally break up. While Kandi, his ex, tries to wreak havoc in his life, Tony thinks he has found a wonderful new friend, Teressa, who ends up using him and winds up pregnant. Pursued by two crazy exes for child support and a court system that penalizes him at every turn, Tony tries to do the right thing, until finally he hatches the ultimate revenge plan, using skills he learned in the U.S. Army, to get both crazy women back for everything they've done to him. One for the Fellas is meant to encourage others to fight back with the Pen and not with their Fists.

An engaging writer, Chuck Terry presents this powerful study on the tremendous obstacles that drug addicts drifting in and out of prison must overcome in order to get clean and "make it" in society. Thoroughly researched and based on sound theory, this text covers how societal reaction to drugs and addiction shape criminal policy and behavior. Terry's powerful voice as a writer brings each of "the fellas" to life as he tells their story on how they became addicts and documents their on going struggle with addiction---both in and out of prison. Terry follows the story of "the fellas" as they beat the odds, get clean, and try to make a better life for themselves. And, he tells the somber story of those who are not able to overcome the obstacles of drugs and prison.

On any given weekend Silk, Big Jess, Doc and Stupid can be found in Silk's garage. Friends since High School they continue that friendship as each grow to men and find comfort in each other. Good music, good company, good liquor and damn good conversation, oh yeah did I mention dominoes? Whether it's Friday or Saturday the garage had plenty of beer, dominoes and arguements, but never short of male bonding. Conversations could start from Sports and end in fashion, from the latest celebrity in trouble with the law, to inflation, from the latest cover on Penthouse Magazine and end at the latest cover of Time Magazine. No mater how important, or unimportant the conversation, everyone shared a unique, loud point of view. The uniqueness of each of us brings out different stories and different conclusions. If the president of the United States or any media spokesman needed a solution to any of the world's problem, all he would have to is grab a Heineken or some Crown Royal and by the end of the night he'll have answer to something, might not be his problem, but he have an answer to something.

At 13 years old, Catherine Hepburn is described by her friends as the prettiest girl in the county. However, the description favoured by her family is that of a good girl with big ears. In fact, her mother and housekeeper often take the time to help Catherine style her hair in a manner to help hide her big ears. Gifted by her Uncle Nicholas with a diary one Christmas, Catherine begins to record in it the events and circumstances involving the lives of her family and friends. Unknowingly, she records the events of the Hidden, children of noble birth who are hidden in common households until they are of an age to inherit their nobility. Walking Amid Spanish Lights written by Walter Glover, MTS and has been published by Covenant Books, Inc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-12-08 with Sports & Recreation categories.

Walter Glover's fall on Mount Rainier led to the discovery of three aneurysms in three separate body systems, a medical rarity. That persuaded the senior-citizen adventure author to abandon his worldwide quest to climb on all Seven Summit mountains. Repurposed by open-heart surgery, he reimagined his dream. Forget climbing famous mountains--hike long distances. Walter's first challenge, chronicled in this thrilling book, was 500 miles long (well, 492), trekking El Camino, The Way of Saint James, across Spain. Called The Way, it is named for Jesus' apostle, whose remains rest in a cathedral at the end of the journey. The most compelling story Walter tells is his own meeting with St. James at his cathedral, concerning his deceased brother. Glover fits into mobile Camino communities, befriending people from around the world, as he did on mountaineering expeditions he's written about. The final of four books of the retired hospital chaplain's popular Seven Mountain Story series, Camino recounts adventures of 40 days of 14-mile distances hiked from village to village with nights in hostels. He was among an estimated quarter-million pilgrims on Camino in 2014. The book's centerpieces are spirituality and adventure. Walter's altruistic reason to hike--raise money for children's wellness initiatives, almost $150,000. His writing and activism inspired kids to seniors. The ugly irony, the superhealthy adventurer now has a chronic disease--Parkinson's. Exercising now has significant limitations for Walter. His outlook, "My life continues vibrant, hopeful, and full of gratitude and light. I believe my best work is in front of me."

Migration Letters written by M. Nzadi Keita and has been published by Beacon Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-04-02 with Poetry categories.

A poetry collection that reflects on intimate aspects of Black history, culture, and identity, revealing an uncommon gaze on working-class Philadelphia from the 1960s to the present day In 55 poems, Migration Letters straddles the personal and public with particular, photorealistic detail to identify what, over time, creating a home creates in ourselves. Drawn from her experiences of being born in Philadelphia into a Black family and a Black culture transported from the American South by the Great Migration, M. Nzadi Keita's poetry sparks a profoundly hybrid gaze of the visual and the sensory. Her lyrical fragments and sustained narrative plunge into the unsung aspects of Black culture and explore how Black Americans journey toward joy. Propelled by the conditions that motivated her family's migration north, the poems pull heavily from Keita's place in her family, communities, and the world at large. They testify to her time and circumstances growing up Black in Philadelphia on the periphery of the Civil Rights and Black Power movements. Each poem builds upon an inheritance of voices: a panoramic perspective of an Easter Sunday service in a Black church gives way to an account of psychic violence in a newly integrated school; the collective voices of a beauty salon's patrons fragment into memories of neighborhoods in North Philadelphia that have faded over time. Migration Letters strives to tell a story about Black people that radiates across generations and testifies to a world that, as Lucille Clifton wrote, “has tried to kill [us] and has failed.” They interrogate how one's present begins in the past, what we gain from barriers and boundaries, and what notions of progress energize our journey forward. Keita’s poems intimately reveal how Black culture can be inherited and built upon complex relationships where love and pain are inextricably linked.
