"This paper begins with a brief of how youth as a topic/ area of study is treated in the social sciences and hence, of the underlying frameworks typically employed to guide research and analysis in youth studies. This section is followed next by a short discussion of the life-events or markers commonly used to delineate the youth as a social category or construct and the measures/ indicators for identifying who constitutes the "youth." Subsequent sections are then devoted to highlighting existing study findings on the Filipino youth in the areas of: family life and relationships; peer groups; gender identity and sexuality; values and religiosity; self-esteem and disposition; health and lifestyles; media exposure and ICT; schooling and educational aspirations; career and work; and civic consciousness, social responsibility and politics"--P. 2.

"This annotated bibliogaphy includes entries that describe the general situation of the Filipino youth, based on the data and findings of national youth surveys (E.G., NFO- Trends Youth Study 2001, McCann Youth Study 2000) and reports of nation al conferences on Filipino children and youth. A significant number of studies deal with youth culture and behaviour - the culture of students, their political attitudes, religious beliefs, family values, perceptions of their sexuality and their premarital experiences. Other works are on deviance - juvenile delinquency, fraternity violence, rape and sexual violence, sexual molestation, and prostitution"--P. [v].

A major new resource book for academics and students of youth studies, this work offers a rare comparative review of a field which is often focused on the local or national situation. Drawing together authors from across the world, the book combines assessments of the theory, methodology and practice of youth research, and the impact of globalization on this field of study. A particular strength of the text is its exploration of theoretical issues of globalization through substantial pieces of empirical work, some of which cover regions frequently overlooked in the international youth research scene, such as South East Asia and Eastern Europe.

The Philippines became Canada’s largest source of short- and long-term migrants in 2010, surpassing China and India, both of which are more than ten times larger. The fourth-largest racialized minority group in the country, the Filipino community is frequently understood by such figures as the victimized nanny, the selfless nurse, and the gangster youth. On one hand, these narratives concentrate attention, in narrow and stereotypical ways, on critical issues. On the other, they render other problems facing Filipino communities invisible. This landmark book, the first wide-ranging edited collection on Filipinos in Canada, explores gender, migration and labour, youth spaces and subjectivities, representation and community resistance to certain representations. Looking at these from the vantage points of anthropology, cultural studies, education, geography, history, information science, literature, political science, sociology, and women and gender studies, Filipinos in Canada provides a strong foundation for future work in this area.

Adolescent Psychology Around The World written by Jeffrey Jensen Arnett and has been published by Psychology Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-04-05 with Family & Relationships categories.

This book paints a portrait of adolescent psychology in 4 major regions: Africa/the Middle East, Asia, the Americas, and Europe. Featuring 24 revised and updated chapters from the International Encyclopedia of Adolescence (2007), readers are introduced to the way the majority of the world’s adolescents actually live. Most contributors are indigenous to the country they review. As a whole the book paints an engaging panorama of adolescent life around the world, broadening students’ cultural perspective. All chapters follow the same template to make it easier to compare topics across countries: Background (including demographics, ethnic diversity, and political system), Period of Adolescence, Beliefs, Gender, the Self, Family Relationships, Friends and Peers/Youth Culture, Love and Sexuality, Health Risk Behavior, Education, Work, Media, Politics and Military, and Unique Issues. Each chapter contains a map and photos and a list of references and suggested readings. The introductory chapter explains why the countries were selected and introduces the book’s common themes. The section on Africa and the Middle East introduces students to teen life in Cameroon, one of the few places left where adolescents go through formal puberty rituals. In addition, readers learn about adolescent life in Ethiopia, Israel, Morocco, Nigeria, and Sudan. Next we travel to Asia -- China, India, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Here readers see how economic growth in India and China is creating opportunities for young people. In The Americas, readers are introduced to life in Argentina, Canada, Chile, Mexico, Peru, and the United States. The book concludes with adolescent life in Europe including the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Russia, Sweden, and the UK. Intended for courses in adolescent psychology, lifespan development, and/or cultural (cross-cultural) psychology taught in departments of psychology, human development and family studies, sociology, and education, this book will also appeal to researchers and clinicians who study or work with adolescents.
