For all those indie filmmakers who wonder about jumping into the "feature filmmaking" pond, here's an exciting catalog of movies that Schmidt made, by hook or crook--26 no/low-budget features in 40 years. Budgets range right down to $39 for the DV movie THE HIGDEN MAN (see FOREWORD/Interview with feature filmmaker Sujewa Ekanayake). What matters is that if "filmmaking" is your dream, hopefully this little booklet will form a basis for your future efforts (if HE can do it so can U!). By examining the one-page entries the reader should get a sense of Schmidt's creative priorities--an improv approach to actors/non-actors, on-the-spot story-telling, editorial exploration, and the nuts and bolts of no/low-budget producing. Hopefully, the take-away from this "used-car filmmaking" book is that ANYONE CAN BECOME A FEATURE FILMMAKER. With DV/digital moviemaking equipment-many features here were shot in DV--artists can now make their movies with affordable HD cameras or phones, shooting 4K video and editing apps. And with determination, you can start to compile your own catalog of completed works, hopefully earning a trip to Park City/Sundance and beyond.

Embodied Cognition And Cinema written by Peter Kravanja and has been published by Leuven University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-07-31 with Performing Arts categories.

The impact of the embodied cognition thesis on the scientific study of film The embodied cognition thesis claims that cognitive functions cannot be understood without making reference to the interactions between the brain, the body, and the environment. The meaning of abstract concepts is grounded in concrete experiences. This book is the first edited volume to explore the impact of the embodied cognition thesis on the scientific study of film. A team of scholars analyse the main aspects of film (narrative, style, music, sound, time, the viewer, emotion, perception, ethics, the frame, etc.) from an embodied perspective. By combining insights from various disciplines such as cognitive film theory, conceptual metaphor theory, and cognitive neuroscience, they show how the process of meaning-making in film is embodied and how empathy and embodied simulation play a role in understanding the way in which the viewer interacts with the film. Foreword by Mark Johnson, Knight Professor of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Department of Philosophy, University of Oregon. Contributors Warren Buckland (Oxford Brookes University), Juan Chattah (University of Miami), Maarten Coëgnarts (University of Antwerp), Adriano D’Aloia (Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Milan), Michele Guerra (University of Parma), Miklós Kiss (University of Groningen), Peter Kravanja (KU Leuven), María J. Ortiz (University of Alicante), Mark S. Ward (University of Technology, Sydney), Hannah Chapelle Wojciehowski (University of Texas)

Transmission Electron Microscopy written by C. Barry Carter and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-08-24 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This text is a companion volume to Transmission Electron Microscopy: A Textbook for Materials Science by Williams and Carter. The aim is to extend the discussion of certain topics that are either rapidly changing at this time or that would benefit from more detailed discussion than space allowed in the primary text. World-renowned researchers have contributed chapters in their area of expertise, and the editors have carefully prepared these chapters to provide a uniform tone and treatment for this exciting material. The book features an unparalleled collection of color figures showcasing the quality and variety of chemical data that can be obtained from today’s instruments, as well as key pitfalls to avoid. As with the previous TEM text, each chapter contains two sets of questions, one for self assessment and a second more suitable for homework assignments. Throughout the book, the style follows that of Williams & Carter even when the subject matter becomes challenging—the aim is always to make the topic understandable by first-year graduate students and others who are working in the field of Materials Science Topics covered include sources, in-situ experiments, electron diffraction, Digital Micrograph, waves and holography, focal-series reconstruction and direct methods, STEM and tomography, energy-filtered TEM (EFTEM) imaging, and spectrum imaging. The range and depth of material makes this companion volume essential reading for the budding microscopist and a key reference for practicing researchers using these and related techniques.

The Systems Model Of Creativity written by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-01-27 with Psychology categories.

This first volume of the Collected Works of Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi represents his work on Art and Creativity. Starting with his seminal 1964 study on creativity up to his 2010 publication in Newsweek, the volume spans over four decades of research and writing and clearly shows Csikszentmihalyi’s own development as an academic, psychologist, researcher and person. Unconventional and unorthodox in his approach, Csikszentmihalyi chose the topic of creativity as a field of study believing it would help him be a better psychologist and advance his understanding of how to live a better life. The chapters in this volume trace the history of the study of creativity back to the days of Guilford and research on IQ and Jacob Getzels’ work on creativity and intelligence. Firmly grounded in that history, yet extending it in new directions, Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi started his life-long study on artistic creativity. His first extensive study at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago enabled him to observe, test and interview fine art students drawing in a studio. The study formed the very basis of all his work on the subject and has resulted in several articles, represented in this volume, on such creativity-related concepts as problem solving versus problem finding, the personality of the artist, the influence of the social context, creativity as a social construction, developmental issues and flow. The main contribution to the topic of creativity and also the main concept explored in this volume, is the Systems Model of Creativity. Seven chapters in this volume discuss the development of this conceptual model and theory.
