Nigeria is a British Creation. The name came from Flora-Shaw; meaning "Niger Area people" or the people around river Niger. The first group of people were Igala, Idoma and the Igbos. They call themselves Agabaidu or Aguatta; meaning "the Lions" in their respective dialects. Attah is the head of the Kingdom while Achadu (Asadu) is the Prime Minister and second in Command to Attah Igala. Attah was regarded as the King of Africa prior to the Colonial era. The first Treaty drafted in 1831 and signed in 1841 was the first in Africa. It was the Attah that ceded Nigeria for British occupation in 1842 at Lokoja. Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa. The "Nago people" of Brazil, Haiti, Bahamas, Black Americans and Caribeans were Igala people. In this book, the so called "Black people" are not blacks but of "Golden Colour". Under light, we reflect golden colour with dark background. Balkanization of the land into districts and later provinces brought divisions and multi-ethnic diversities. The book revealed that the Igala people of Nigeria are related to Egyptian before Arab invation of Egypt, are also related to Gallas (Oromos) of Ethiopea, who are found in Somalia, Eritrea, Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan and parts of Indian Coast. The Igala people are found in Angola, Congo and West African countries. The book linked the people of Turkey and Yemen to Igalas in Nigeria. The Igala language is spoken by the Yorubas and many West African countries. The book is poised to re-unite.

Nigeria is Africa's most populous country and the world's eighth largest oil producer, but its success has been undermined in recent decades by ethnic and religious conflict, political instability, rampant official corruption and an ailing economy. Toyin Falola, a leading historian intimately acquainted with the region, and Matthew Heaton, who has worked extensively on African science and culture, combine their expertise to explain the context to Nigeria's recent troubles through an exploration of its pre-colonial and colonial past, and its journey from independence to statehood. By examining key themes such as colonialism, religion, slavery, nationalism and the economy, the authors show how Nigeria's history has been swayed by the vicissitudes of the world around it, and how Nigerians have adapted to meet these challenges. This book offers a unique portrayal of a resilient people living in a country with immense, but unrealized, potential.

Nigeria, the Giant of Africa and the most populous country in Africa, lies between the Gulf of Guinea in the South and the Sahara Desert in the North. Occupying an area of approximately 373,000 square miles. It is bounded on the north by Niger Republic, on the south by the Gulf of Guinea, on the East by the Cameroon Republic and on the West by Dahomey, the present day Benin Republic. In about 1851 before the British arrival, there were four distinct physical regions within the nation with the descriptions noted. However, these areas have changed in the twenty-first century. In south is a coastal line of dense belt of swamps and mangrove forest, followed by a belt of tropical rain forest, the home of palm oil tree. Third, is the open woodland or grassland savannah, where cattle and peanuts are raised. The Fourth region is the vast area of undulating plateau and hills Nigeria's other important physical feature is the River Niger, from which Nigeria derives its name. In Nigeria, the ethnic and racial composition of the society includes as many as three hundred tribes. This fact alone points to the extent of the diversity and heterogeneous nature of the national population within the country. Of these numerous tribes, the three dominant ones are the Hausa-Fulani in the North, the Igbo in the East, and the Yoruba in the West. The Hausa-Fulani had a system of government ran by Emirs and Chiefs of the Hausa Dynasty. In the West, the Yoruba cities and towns were ran by the powerful kingdoms. The East had no dynasties or kingdoms like the North or the West but rather has clan-heads or minor chiefs, whose authority over the people was severely limited. The pre-colonial era saw the flourishing of slave trade, which was later declared illegal by the British in the early 19th century. Effective British occupation of Nigeria son followed the illegal declaration of slavery. The pre-colonial era, in what later became known as Nigeria, witnessed elaborate systems of government in both the North and the West, more especially in the former. In the East, there was great fragmentation of the political system because the people abhorred autocratic rulership that could hold the people together by force. After the amalgamation of the North and South, Nigeria became unified under a unitary system. The Northern territory provided a seat for the operation of the indirect of the indirect rule system that later failed in the East when it was extended there. Economic necessity made amalgamation desirable. The period of 1914 to 1922 witnessed the development of representation government in Nigeria, even though there were considerable limitations. For the first time, four indigenous peoples were elected into the newly created Legislative Council, and two political parties appeared to contest these seats. The Richard's constitution of 1947 introduced regionalism into Nigeria. Nigeria achieved independence in 1960, having a federal arrangement in which four strongly autonomous regions constituted the units of the weak central body. The weakness of the center made the federation unworkable. History is the events of the past and the future. They may not be widely known but are significant enough not to be forgotten. History forgotten, not known or used is dead and is bound to be repeated. - Dr. Stella E. Nwokeji

At the core of this book is a passionate desire by the author to seek out Okobo and present it to the world. In a painstaking recollection of childhood memories, he started the book with a full-day homecoming journey to Okoboland from his place of work at Abuja, the new administrative capital of Nigeria in West Africa. The dramatic changes seen in one town known as Obufi was found replicated in all other towns and villages in Okoboland in domino. Anywhere he visited bore unmistakable evidences of advance and decline, both in terms of physical and human content of society. Looking at Okobo with new eyes after some four decades of first impression, he found a wonderful treasure trove of previously unknown information to share with readers. Okobo country rocks, its multiple waterways and vegetation, each had respective stories to tell. So also were its people and their traditional means of livelihood. A curious insight into its peculiarities threw more light on how Okobo as a frontier nation was able to survive among population hegemons of Efik, Oron, and Ibibio with whom it shared common borders at three fronts. Indeed throughout the Efik-speaking communities of the Lower Cross River region, Okobo was the only meeting point of the three major ethnic groupings. In many respects, Okobo created a great impact among communities that dotted all sides of the Cross River estuary. But somehow such roles had remained largely unacknowledged over the years. A brief review of activities of Okobo farmers, fishermen, and traders between their homeland in the Nigerian mainland and its locations at the Atlantic base sought to highlight some of these historically important roles played by Okobo men and women in the past. With a rather rude shock, Okobo people, in a recent international incident, saw the carpet swept away from under their feet when Nigeria bungled its case against Cameroon at the International Court of Justice at The Hague. In the manner of tales of the unexpected, Nigeria went to the quiet neighborhood of Greentree in upstate New York and signed away its territory along with its Okobo people living there. Without any pretension, this story, in its concluding section, therefore wish to expose the fraudulent international conspiracy and mother of all sellouts of the twenty-first century. The book declares in a very public manner that the people whose ancestral home was taken away from them were Okobo people. Matters became more bizarre when revelations in the book showed that Okobo inhabitants who constituted over 90 percent of the so-called Bakassi Peninsula were hardly consulted for their inputs before the Nigerian legal team boarded the plane on an ill-fated mission to the world court. In this epic write-up, real information about Okobo was reduced to moonlight storytelling, necessarily to loosen and broaden perceptions of readers and people interested in further research about Okobo. A tourist guide insight into huge population centres of Okobo Nation has been added at the end of the book. In a vivid expression of intent, Okobo: Story of a Nigerian People represents an exploratory effort to address who Okobo people are in the context of the Nigerian federal state. It envisages a massive outpouring of better-informed opinion about Okobo phenomenon by the time the last page is flipped.
