For the first time the discipline of modern inorganic chemistry has been systematized according to a plan constructed by a council of editorial advisors and consultants, among them three Nobel laureates (E.O. Fischer, H. Taube and G. Wilkinson). Rather than producing a collection of unrelated review articles, the series creates a framework which reflects the creative potential of this scientific discipline. Thus, it stimulates future development by identifying areas which are fruitful for further research. The work is indexed in a unique way by a structured system which maximizes its usefulness to the reader. It augments the organization of the work by providing additional routes of access for specific compounds, reactions and other topics.

The present four volumes, published under the collective title of "Chemical Bonds in Solids," are the translation of the two Russian books "Chemical Bonds in Crystals" and "Chemical Bonds in Semiconductors." These contain the papers presented at the Conference on Chemical Bonds held in Minsk between May 28 and June 3, 1967, together with a few other papers (denoted by an asterisk) which have been specially incorporated. Earlier collections (also published by the Nauka i Tekhnika Press of the Belorussian Academy of Sciences) were entitled "Chemical Bonds in Semiconductors and Solids" (1965) and "Chemical Bonds in Semiconductors and Thermody namics" (1966) and are available in English editions from Consultants Bureau, New York (pub lished in 1967 and 1968, respectively). The subject of chemical bonds in crystals, including semiconductors, has recently become highly topical and has attracted the interest of a wide circle of physicists, chemists, and engineers. Until recently, the most successful description of the properties of solids (including semi conductors) has been provided by the band theory, which still dominates the physics of solids. Nevertheless, it is clear that the most universal approach is that based on the general theory of chemical bonds in crystals, in which details of the electron distributions between atoms and of the wave functions appear quite explicitly.

Fundamental Qsars For Metal Ions written by John D. Walker and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-13 with Science categories.

Fundamental QSARs for Metal Ions describes the basic and essential applications of quantitative structure–activity relationships (QSARs) for regulatory or industrial scientists who need to predict metal ion bioactivity. It includes 194 QSARs that have been used to predict metal ion toxicity and 86 QSARs that have been used to predict metal ion bioconcentration, biosorption, and binding. It is an excellent sourcebook for academic, industrial, and government scientists and policy makers, and provides a wealth of information on the biological and chemical activities of metal ions as they impact health and the environment. Fundamental QSARs for Metal Ions was designed for regulatory and regulated organizations that need to use QSARs to predict metal ion bioactivity, as they now do for organic chemicals. It has the potential to eliminate resources to test the toxicity of metal ions or to promulgate regulations that require toxicity testing of metal ions because the book illustrates how to construct QSARs to predict metal ion toxicity. In addition, the book: Provides a historical perspective and introduction to developing QSARs for metal ions Explains the electronic structures and atomic parameters of metals essential to understanding differences in chemical properties that influence cation toxicity, bioconcentration, biosorption, and binding Describes the chemical properties of metals that are used to develop QSARs for metal ions Illustrates the descriptors needed to develop metal ion-ligand binding QSARs Discusses 280 QSARs for metal ions Explains the differences between QSARs for metal ions and Biotic Ligand Models Lists the regulatory limits of metals and provides examples of regulatory applications Illustrates how to construct QSARs for metal ions Dr. John D. Walker is the winner of the 2013 SETAC Government Service Award.

2020 AJN Book-of-the-Year Award Winner: Advanced Practice Nursing! Concise and well-organized, this advanced physiology and pathophysiology text promotes deep understanding of key pathophysiological concepts and relates them to major disorders commonly seen in practice. It is distinguished by its stellar organization and writing that clarifies difficult-to-understand disease mechanisms. The second edition offers several new features that add to its value in preparing the student clinician to care for patients with a broad variety of disorders effectively. The second edition retains the inclusive language and conceptual organization central to the appeal and usefulness of the first edition. Coverage of new scientific advances update the original disease descriptions. With the aim of preparing students to be well-informed and confident decision makers in primary care settings, the text provides the key knowledge required to master pharmacology for prescriptive practice. Addressing both healthy organ function and disease-associated changes, it details and illustrates the cellular structure and function of each organ system and mechanisms of associated major clinical disorders. It examines the reasons patients often present with particular symptoms, the rationale for ordering specific diagnostic tests and interpretation of the results, and common management strategies that proceed from the underlying pathology. The text is replete with case presentations to illustrate concepts, over 500 images, key points at the end of each chapter to reinforce knowledge, and a glossary defining correct terminology. Comprehensive instructor resources accompany the text. New to the Second Edition: Standardized template for pediatric and gerontology content for clarity Expanded coverage of neonatal and pediatric development and vulnerabilities Methylation patterns of cell-free DNA (epigenetics) in oncology practice Expanded coverage of fluid and electrolyte balance Physiology of pregnancy, labor, and delivery Increased content on the social determinants of health Introduction of the exposome concept in human disease New content on biological and psychosocial aspects of human sexual development and variations relevant to LGBTQ+ centered care COVID-19-related concerns Key Features: Includes comprehensive lifespan considerations with key insights from specialists in pediatric and geriatric pathophysiology Integrates critical thinking questions and case studies to promote discussion and information synthesis Provides unique Bridge to Clinical Practice in each chapter to translate science to practical patient care Includes more than 500 images to illustrate complex scientific concepts Summarizes content with key points at the end of each chapter
